[ Sun had been the first one she'd really... told about this in full. Or tried to. She wasn't exactly sure what she'd been expecting when she said it, but she hadn't expected to get shut out completely. She'd planned on trying to talk to everyone individually. It probably would've been better, but after the person she depended on to have her back even when things got tough here decided to turn his back on her, she wasn't exactly sure she could handle that from everyone she knew one after the other. But she needed to let them know. ]

I made deals with Torchwick and Mercury. They're under the protection of Nova City law. Don't go after either of them, even if you see them walking around the streets with a big smile on their face. Don't antagonize them. The last thing I want is one of them calling my phone to ask for my help in stopping one of you from assaulting a "law-abiding citizen."

Just try to keep in mind that my job is to protect people now and in the future, not focus on the past. What we've been doing hasn't worked, so I'm trying something new. If I can prevent people from dying for even a little longer because of it, I'm willing to try it. If you have a problem with this, I understand. Sun's already not talking to me, so my expectations aren't high. I'll answer questions, but don't bother arguing against it. It's already done.

I'd like to discuss clemency for two criminals. I've already granted it in Nova City, I would like to discuss the potential sealing of criminal records and clearance of bounties in your archways, with the stipulation that I would highly recommend still keeping an eye on the two in question.

[ Weiss had elected to stay late at the City Guardian's office that night. She had no doubt that what she did would make the papers soon enough and that'd take care of the rest of the population knowing not to go after Mercury or Roman. She wanted to make sure that the people who would be most effected by this found out from her though. It didn't mean she wanted to stick around all night to get yelled at or told how wrong she was though. It wasn't so much running as much as just.. honestly she would rather be at work, Frost cuddled at her feet. She may have made arrangements with Ozpin for an alternate place to stay but she wasn't quite ready to consider herself not welcome in her own home yet.

And so she was just planning on falling asleep at work that night, her chair shoved out from her desk and her sleeping bag set up on the floor next to it. She was still fully dressed, filling out paperwork on a tablet with her back pressed against the desk, Frost (her dog) keeping her feet warm. Char (Charizard) was out and in the corner having a riveting conversation with Sleet (Glaceon) about god knows what. Atmo (Castform) and Snowjob (Froslass) seem to be content playing on top of the desk and Joan (Arcanine) is asleep on the other side of it with Hail (Smoochum). Aura (Amaura) cuddled up against Weiss's side, but was also sleeping. Eis (Lapras) had to stay in his ball because he's too big for indoors.

Even if she was staying late, past the time that she thought either of her Deputies would be there (but she could be wrong) the front door still said open in case anyone needed help. ]

I'm well aware it's not the most popular idea around, but Mercury Black and Roman Torchwick. Potentially one of Torchwick's associates as well, but I have to finish negotiating hers. I've already guaranteed them safety and sealed records in Nova City as long as they adhere to their contracts. I promised I would ask about other archways as I can't guarantee them. They've both committed murder in Genessia the last time they were here, amongst a number of other crimes.

This is a chance to give them the opportunity to move forward and prevent loss of life, as well as gain information on more dangerous criminals than them. I will mentioned that I neither trust nor like them at all, and I think that at the very least one of them will go back on their deal. But I think it'll at least buy us time to prepare for that.

Roman Torchwick and Mercury Black have criminal records from in Genessia and for murder. I've sealed them in Nova City in exchange for a deal that stands for Mercury as long as he doesn't break the law from here on out and for Torchwick as long as he doesn't kill, seriously injure, kidnap, torture, or any other major crimes and provides information on Cinder including evidence of her actual crimes she's committed here in Genessia. He's essentially agreed to act as a criminal informant as long as I pull the manhunt for him off. I'm more likely to get their cooperation if they've got more space to roam than a single city, though I understand if you'd be hesitant.

Roman Torchwick for murder, kidnapping, and torture. The last two of which were committed against me. The murder victim is present but doesn't remember it. Mercury Black for the murder of Armin Arlert. All other crimes were committed in our world or there is no evidence linking them to the crime.

So. Tell me. How is it a good idea to let known criminals from our world get a free pass to plan to fuck us all over? Because if they aren't going to plan on trying to kill us or maim us, I'd eat Ember Celica.

Are you wanting Nova City to turn into another Beacon? Grimm aside, having two of the people who helped turn Beacon into the Grimm-infested ruin it is now roam free does not fill me with any sense of hope that things will settle down.

Torchwick is going to give me what I need to actually put Cinder away here and cooperate as a criminal informant while following the rules I gave him and Mercury isn't allowed to break any laws at all, so yes, I think it's a good idea. Even if they're both just playing with me, it's going to give us time to figure out how to deal with them. Unless you can tell me right now exactly how you're going to beat them.

And so we're clear, I'm working on one for Neo too. Torchwick wouldn't sign unless I gave her protections as well, but I'm not signing off on anything until I'm convinced she's willing to cooperate.

Okay. There must be some reason why you thought this was a good idea, and I want to hear it, unless you're just planning to tell all of us you're protecting them without giving any of us insight as to why.

Did you even discuss this with any of us before making the deal? I get it Weiss, you're city guardian, even if I don't understand your reasons. But this affects all of us. Even if your mind was made up, you should have talked to us about it first.

I have no evidence against Cinder, Jaune. When I came up with that plan, the most I had was property destruction. This gets me what we need to support locking her up in David's prison.

[ Which she isn't going to mention is actually.. fairly nice. But it'll keep her away from them. It'll keep everyone safe. ]

It'll stop Torchwick and Mercury from hurting anyone else, and even if they don't hold up to their end of the bargain in the long-term it'll give us time to prepare to actually handle them if they play along even for a little while. It's easier for me to keep an eye on them if they're operating in Nova City and in public, anyway.

[It's a while before Armin responds, though he saw the video immediately. When he turns on the camera, his voice is expressionless, and he just looks at Weiss for a moment before speaking.]

[ Armin is the number one reason that Weiss feels guilty about giving the deal to Mercury. ]

Mercury said he was going to start killing again. I offered to seal his criminal record provided he kept his nose clean. Any illegal action from here on out voids that deal. At the very least it'll give us time to prepare if he doesn't plan on adhering to it. If he does, then we don't have to worry about him.

Torchwick's is a little more complicated, but I get the feeling Mercury's was the one you wanted to know about.

[it wasn't like he knew about the deal that had been made with the others, and even if he did know he would be indifferent to it. if he were being honest, he would think her plan was just amusing, since she was willing to negotiate with criminals. as for what 'battler' believed... well, he was supremely righteous, but he would stay by weiss' side most likely.

either way- he had decided to pay weiss a visit that night at her office. he had been enjoying their time together quite a bit, and he wanted to keep up with that sort of progress. battler found his way through the building until he eventually settled on her office. he peeked his head in, now grinning at her.]

Hey. [once he made his presence known he walked in a little further. battler didn't say much else, he just raised up a bag to show her.]

Care for a little late-night snack? ....Of course when I say snack, I mean I brought dinner for both of us. [as he said this he took a look around at her pokemon as well, now staring at the curious animals.]

[ Weiss sits up when she hears Battler's voice, looking up from her tablet. She doesn't really try to smile or anything. It's not Battler's fault though, it's.. everything else. ]

I don't have much of an appetite, but you can come in anyway.

[ Weiss gave a quick nudge to Aura to wake the little dinosaur up so there was room for Battler to sit next to her. Aura just went over to continue sleeping with Joan and Hail. ]

How'd you know I was here so late?

[At least one person figured out where Weiss was. Athrun is standing in the frame to the door, leaning toward one side. A look of concern is clear as day on his face, and he has what appears to be a laptop bag slung over his shoulder.]

I thought I might find you here. Admittedly, I wasn't expecting the company.

[If Athrun didn't know better, he would swear she was pet-sitting.]

[ It wasn't like she hid that she was going to work. It was a good, easy place to make sure to give her teammates the space they might've needed. And also give her a breather from getting yelled at and feeling alone. Pokepals were good for that. ]

Why were you looking for me in the first place? It seems kind of late and you look worried, even if you shouldn't be.

[Nope, it's not a hallucination. It's real. She wasn't having a stress induced break down. But she still wanted to confirm it in person.]

Protect them? Protect them??? It's other people that need protecting from them! [It's everything she can do not to actually shake Weiss.] Is there some reason we are letting them go and not locking them up for being criminally insane?!

[At some point in the night, Ruby would casually walk through the door to the office, hood pulled up over her head with a bag of fast food and a drink carrier with two cups of coffee in it. She sets the bag of food on Weiss' desk, taking a sandwich she had ordered for her out and took a seat.]

Thought you might like something to eat if you're pulling late hours.

[Ruby was... not happy with the decision, but she wasn't going to be openly antagonistic about it at least. She was trying to support her partner.]

[ It looks like there's Chinese food in her trash can- though honestly Weiss didn't eat much of that either. Ruby wasn't the first person there with food though, and wouldn't be the last. Weiss just honestly wasn't that hungry though. ]

I expected to get yelled at by you almost as much as Yang and Blake did.

[ There's the briefest of pauses though. With how Weiss has been treating Neptune, she kind of expected him to just follow suit with... ]

[Instead of commenting on the network like many others, Ren makes his ways to Weiss' office with some food and drinks. They're not pancakes - just some late evening - nutritious - snacks and tea.]

[ Oh Ren. She's a coffee person. But that doesn't mean she'll turn the tea down. Especially since she hasn't eaten much despite the multiple offers.. and frankly even if she's not sure what the nutritious snacks are she's more likely to nibble on those after people kept bringing Chinese food and fast food in. They're small- easier to get down when she has no appetite. As long as they're not some kind of weird Ren nutrition mystery, anyway. ]

I'm taking this as a positive sign that you at least don't hate me.

[Gale always was good at being a master of bad timing, even if it was sometimes unintentional. He'd wanted to bother Weiss for two reasons: seeing if the Guardian office had any extra information on the Red Claw, and to check on her after that bounty they both went on. Hopefully she didn't have as bad an opinion on him after he proved himself competent on following orders and working with others on that bounty! ...hopefully. He still liked to occcasionally check in on (sorta) bounty partners regardless.

He peered his head into the doorway, looking a little surprised to see a sleeping bag set up in the place. He could only assume she did this all the time, because geez, she really is all business. That look on her face wasn't a good one though. The head of a german shepherd puppy poked out to look at Weiss too.]

Looks like I came at a bad time. Should I come back later?

Only if it's not an emergency and it's bad news.

[ She'll take non-emergency good news or emergency bad news. She's pretty sure there's never emergency good news, but she would take that too. After a second she looks up at him from her tablet. ]

You realize that there wouldn't be someone in here at this time of night normally right? You aren't just trying to... squat... are..

[ Her face just lit up at the sight of the puppy. Gale may come in, yes. ]

[ This is some heavy stuff. He takes some time to himself before responding, trying to sort out just how he feels about all this. He doesn't like it, doesn't enjoy the idea of Torchwick and that Mercury guy getting a second chance at all. From what he'd heard, Torchwick was the one screwing over the Atlas airship fleet - decimating several ships in the process.

Those were people from his home. For all he knew, there were people on those ships that he knew.

But that was there. This is here. It's not easy to think of it like that - he needs to take another minute to rub his face, remind himself that she's making a hard decision to try and help everyone - but finally the feed clicks on with him trying to look as composed as he can. ]

[ Weiss is more than aware that Flynt has reason to hate this as much as everyone else did. Overall "tough day" was one of the more positive responses, though, and he certainly seemed to keep his cool.
