[Open/Kinda] It's a Birthday Party!
Who?: Koishi and those who got invitations
*Note: (invitations are hand-waved. Anyone who knows Koishi/who knows someone who knows Koishi/wandered in by complete accident is welcomed.)
What?: Koishi's "birthday" party. She's turning 415 years old.
Where?: Chireiden
When?: 5/14 get it? 5-1-4? go-ichi-shi? ko-i-shi?
Warnings: None probably
This was it! Today was the day! It was Koishi's "birthday." Not her true day of birth, as she didn't remember, though she did know it was in the spring and she might as well have it on the day that punned with her name. Right?
Again, the route though the waterways would be clearly marked with lights for those who had not been or had forgotten, the monsters scared and sealed away to allow safe passage. After passing though, guests would find themselves on the back side of an obelisk in front of an imposing looking palace. Streamers and lights would lead the way around to he back where the party was being held. The gardens of Chireiden were decorated appropriately. From decorative stones in the fish pond that glowed (unappreciated by the resident koifish) to decorative streamers and banners and paper lanterns that stretched from the palace to the trees.
The spread of food was rich and diverse from traditional Japanese dishes to more western styled ones. A large cake sat in the middle of the table decorated beautifully in greens and dark blues. One corner held the telltale markings of a finger that couldn't wait until later for a taste. The massive jug of tea had made an appearance once again sitting at the end of the table next to a truly impressive amount of alcohol. Wines, beers, and of course sake. Several of the bottles of the latter were very clearly labeled as too potent for human consumption.
There were several other tables scattered about. One held a variety of magical devices such as jewelry and a list of instructions. Another had a number of party hats and masks on it ranging from ones shaped to roughly look like the ones bought from the store to slightly more elaborate ones made from feathers and folded paper. The masks were old and wooden and likely taken from a festival long ago. They were mostly used to decorate the table itself but no doubt someone could wear one if they wished.
Anyone who had been to Chireiden before would remember the huge variety of pets kept by the elder sister. Every one was out and about now, begging for food or attention. Fortunately Satori's black panther had taken up residence on the garden wall behind the table of food and none of the other animals would dare try and steal from it, but that didn't stop them from attempting to get food on unattended plates.

Koishi took one out of the box before Ted could grab them, rolling up her sleeve and sticking her hand in the gauntlet. It was a bit big for her. "You can pick up hot things in them, even magma if you wanted. But they'll only protect your hands from heat, unlike the boots which protect a lot more. Also, you can pick things up from far away."
To make her point she held her hand out, focusing, a strange, shimmering magic extending to wrap around a rock, Koishi lifting it easily after that. "I'm not very good at it, and it doesn't negate the object's weight. If anything it feels heavier because of the increased leverage. You'll have to practice with them, okay?"
She dropped the rock and removed the gauntlet, holding it out to him, all smiles.

"That does look complicated. Tell me, Koishi...would this qualify as 'doing magic'?"

Ted sighed sweet relief. Being so guarded put him in "better safe than sorry" mode, a rare stance for him. But he'd heard too many tales of enchanted blades bestowed upon goodly knights to abstain from them or their ilk. Even if they did come from a false place. "That's good to hear. I'll do just that, then. Thanks again, Moon." That, Ted thought, ought to make wiling away the hours in seclusion more tolerable yet.
