[David starts the video feed up, and he’s very clearly outside. He looks like he’s at the park.]

I know we have a bunch of new comers to this place, so I’ll introduce myself. I’m David Haller, Guardian of Genessia City. I’ll have been here for..two years come this September. Feels like much longer than that, really.

I have the business Holodeck’d in both Genessia City and Nova City. It’s basically a training simulator and it gives you one of the closest experiences to combat other than the real thing. The door to my office is always open [He looks around briefly.] if I’m in it.

[Well it seems like all of the cities are in the grip of a heat wave. Two weeks of this, it’d be hell. Could be far worse, though. David was doing his best to help people get a reprieve from the heat. In the park, he’s gathered many of the ice cream, shaved iced, and whatever other frozen treat vendors. He has them all giving out free stuff to everyone.

Well, not really free. David was footing the bill for their services. Didn’t seem like such a bad trade to make people happy. He has small cup of ice cream in his hand himself. Even with the heat, it felt pretty heat to be out. He honestly didn’t feel like he got out as much as he used to. ]

You could say I grew up in politics. Back home, I was Vice Foreign Minister for the Earth Sphere Unified Nation.

[He whistles.]

That's a pretty hefty job. You look pretty young too. I can't imagine you were given such a job without a lot of recommendations.

I know what the life of a politician can be like, though. My mother was an Ambassador for Israel.

[ she is young. at fifteen she was (briefly) queen of the world and at seventeen, she holds the position her adoptive father once held, while possessing the prestige of her biological one. ]

It's a life no one is quite prepared to lead, but only a fraction are capable of doing. Not everyone is meant for this life; it can be as difficult as it is rewarding, and not all can endure the storms that must be weathered on the path to making headway in any cause. There are always going to be opponents to your policies and position, always going to be hurdles that you must work past, no matter how highly you are regarded. Not everyone wants to spend the entirety of their career fighting to maintain that.

[ which is how it should be. let those who were capable of enduring the hardships of the role listen, speak, and advocate for those who could not. she was in this for the people, for the sake of the peace they deserved, not fame, money, or admiration. ]

You come from a world where Earth's countries are not unified?

Have you ever felt like the hurdles were becoming too much? Or have you ever felt like you would have been happier if your life had revolved around something other than politics? [He didn't think it would be such a bad thing if someone let themselves feel that for a brief moment.]

The world can't even agree on how to treat certain types of people. If the countries ever become unified, it will be far in the future.

Sometimes, [ no sense in lying about that — she's only human, after all ] but it's never enough to make me step down.

I suppose that's the point in time I'm from. This "far future," even if our worlds likely aren't the same.

That's some iron will that you have. I can't really say how I would have handled a position like yours. What I do here isn't a small position by any means. But I can't imagine it compares to looking after or trying to do what's best for an entire country. Let alone multiple ones. [Though people are people. He didn't imagine it was completely dissimilar.]

Not unless yours has super powered people and heroes in their past. Evil super villain dictators, aliens invading from other worlds. Creatures from other dimensions and the like.

Doing so for a country wasn't that bad, [ though she was happy to leave the bulk of it in the sanc kingdom parliament's capable hands, all things considered ] but in the broader sense in can be... quite challenging at times. It's a learning experience, and I believe you never stop learning about what you can do for the people and nations you represent, no matter how confident you become in your role. The day you stop learning is the day you need consider stepping down.

[ at least, that's how she looks at it. it was certainly the example the heads of the romefeller foundation set for her, too set in their ways to embrace change. ]

I can't say that we have any of those things. Evil dictators, yes, but not of the super-powered villain variety. Just men with too much power of another kind. [ sigh. ] About the only thing that seems to set my future apart from others that I've heard of here, other than our abandonment of the Gregorian calendar, are mobile suit warfare and colonies in outer space.

It feels a little impossible to stop learning when so many different things can get tossed your way. [And you couldn't use the same method to handle every situation.]

Do you miss the work now that you are here? [Positions, jobs and titles didn't matter as much here as they did back in your own world.]

In the end, that's all super-powered villains are. Men with too much power. Or men that have lost their way. [Bad people tended to be bad people, no matter what they can do.]

I've heard the term mobile suit before, though. A man that I met here used it, and told me about his. [He's also seen said mobile suit before, too.] Is Athrun from your world?

In some ways, yes. Others... I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy being free of some of the burdens. But I would take them back in an instant if I were to find a way back to where I belong.

[ men that have lost their way. like her brother, who she believes had good intentions but poor direction and execution. he went about things in the worst possible way, regardless of how things turned out. ]

Athrun? No, I don't believe so. Though it sounds like our worlds could share some similarities...

I think you should just look at this place as a vacation. At least as much as you can. That's not something people in positions of power get to have a lot. I might not know you well at all, but something tells me that you worked hard enough to deserve one.

[Only time he really got time off was when he got ahead on any work that he had to do.]

It's possible. I know he has a large robotic machine. [He remembers seeing it. He calls forth a memory of it and projects an image of it into the air beside him.] Have you seen that in your world?

[ a small, warm chuckle. she hadn't stopped to look at it that way, though there was a large part of her that was too aware of how unjust her situation was that refused to surrender to the idea that this place was a setting that she should enjoy vs survive while trying to get herself out of it. ] I suppose I could, and you're not wrong.

[ "overworked," after all, was a term that her staff, family, and friends applied to her often. ]

That's— [ it's not his abilities that alarm her. it's the image of the familiar design contained within it. relena does a visible double-take. ] That's a Gundam.

Gundam. I think he might have used that term before. I take it these things exist on your world?

Yes. Yes, they do.

[ and she's one of the few who knows the identities of those who pilot them. ]

Huh. So I guess there is some connection between your worlds. Or they are just really similar.
