[David starts the video feed up, and he’s very clearly outside. He looks like he’s at the park.]

I know we have a bunch of new comers to this place, so I’ll introduce myself. I’m David Haller, Guardian of Genessia City. I’ll have been here for..two years come this September. Feels like much longer than that, really.

I have the business Holodeck’d in both Genessia City and Nova City. It’s basically a training simulator and it gives you one of the closest experiences to combat other than the real thing. The door to my office is always open [He looks around briefly.] if I’m in it.

[Well it seems like all of the cities are in the grip of a heat wave. Two weeks of this, it’d be hell. Could be far worse, though. David was doing his best to help people get a reprieve from the heat. In the park, he’s gathered many of the ice cream, shaved iced, and whatever other frozen treat vendors. He has them all giving out free stuff to everyone.

Well, not really free. David was footing the bill for their services. Didn’t seem like such a bad trade to make people happy. He has small cup of ice cream in his hand himself. Even with the heat, it felt pretty heat to be out. He honestly didn’t feel like he got out as much as he used to. ]

It's nice to see you out.

[Levy came for both ice cream and support. She's been working very hard and more or less over being sick. She flashes David a small smile, pushing the cold desert around in her cup. Parts of it are melting but she's eating it fast enough that it's staying cold.]

What flavour?

[She points to the ice cream in his hand.]

Orange Sherbet. [He just picked at random from the options they had on display.]

What about yours? [Her flavor should be the "I should still be on bed rest" flavor.]

I think it's vanilla.

[She wasn't actually paying attention when she got it. It was sweet and cold and perfect.

Levy looks up at David, her hazel eyes shining curiously.] You're worried aren't you. [She frowns.] I'm fine. [No more rest needed.

Levy isn't good at staying in bed.]

If you start to look faintish, I'm going to take you to bed myself. [He's never not going to worry about you, Levy. You have a habit of being stubborn and doing things that you shouldn't.]

Considering the length of the term a Guardian is expected to serve, that's quite a long time to have been in office. The people must have a lot of faith in you, Guardian Haller.

One can only hope. I like to think I have done a good job during my time in office. [He certainly hadn't done anything that the masses disliked.]

I do. I think I wouldn't have run for another term if I didn't. If you aren't passionate about this sort of job, you can't expect to be good at it.

[Karla was used to being out in all kinds of weather, but this extreme heat isn't something she's really fond of. She'll casually walk down the road when she happens to pass by all the ice cream vendors. She smiles slightly, though her face is a little worn from the heat.]

Hello, David...I didn't know you were having a gathering here.

It was a spur the moment sort of thing. [If he had planned it in advance, he would have at least made up flyers or something.]

I think it was all only decided maybe an hour or two ago?

The ice cream helps. Could be a whole lot worse, though. [The breeze that passes over from time to time helps keep people cool as well.]

How do you feel about being here for so long?

It feels longer, and I've grown.

I was still in middle school in my DD dreams. Not sure how much you were able to get.

I don't know what it is about the passage of time that makes it always feel like longer. [Maybe they make so many memories and it feels like they are stretched out over a longer period of time, as opposed to a short one.]

[Blaze happened to be taking a short break in the park today with an opening of spare time, sitting in the shade with a black labrador he'd recently adopted. After pouring the contents of a water bottle into a small dish for his dog, he looked up and noticed David. Blaze had yet to meet the other Guardians in person, and this seemed to be as good a time as any as he got up and approached him.]

Guardian Haller. It's nice to finally meet you in person.

Blaze. [He offers him his hand.] It's a pleasure to meet you as well. And a belated congratulations on the win.

[Blaze nodded, extending his hand and shaking David's.]

Thank you. I only hope I can live up to everyone's expectations. I wondered if I could ask for your advice, if you have the time.

So you arrived here a few months after I did. It felt like you'd been here much longer.

[And he was reminded he really had been here for over two years and what a two years it has been.]

Yeah. It really feels like I've been here longer than two years. I guess time really flies in a place like this one. [He honestly hadn't been sure when Fai arrived, but he knew it was around the same time as him.]

It does. So much happens we don't realize how long we have actually been here until we actually pay attention to the date.

[Which currently, he doesn't do much of.]

[8 AM. While the day's only just beginning for some people, one man's is coming to an end. The next time David blinks, said man will have weaved his way out of the crowd to stand next to him, nursing a cup of shaved strawberry ice. He looks far more beat than anyone coming from gym class should look. Almost like he's been up all night. But he also looks content and utterly at peace.]

I only ever met your old man once, but... I think he'd be very proud of what you're doing here.

[David takes note of Marc. And how he didn't seem to be as sluggish as some others might be this time of morning.]

I like to think he would be. [It was really times like now where he realized he really was his Father's son.]

I think both him and my Mother would be pleased with the life I've lead here.

It's the very definition of Xavier's dream, if you'll permit a neighbor's two cents.

[David has it good here; a sharp contrast to many mutants back home. The thought makes Marc gaze upon the surrounding crowd without really seeing them. Then:]

Do you miss home?

[Translation: "If we somehow found a way back, would you be willing to leave all this behind?"]
