14: Operation (Open Action, over several days/weeks)

WHEN: Pre-Op, Surgery - August 22nd. Post-Op, Recovery - August 22nd-29th. Aftermath - August 30th onward.
WHERE: Pre-Op, Surgery, Post-Op - Genessia Hospital. Aftermath - EVERYWHERE
WHAT: Thanks to the arrival of a surgeon who makes this procedure a heck of a lot easier, surgery date has been moved up and a certain red head is going to walk on two legs once more!
NOTES: Pre-Op is closed to familiar CR only. People Adela has met more than twice will likely be contacted over it, though if you're not sure feel free to ask me over plurk or private message. Post-op is more open as it's more reasonable that people who know her might have heard through word of mouth via other close CR of hers. Aftermath is open to outright everyone. No warnings save for possible potty-mouth, will change as needed.

Law nods quietly, idly flipping through her medical chart for what must have been the twentieth time today.

"As I mentioned before, you won't be getting an anesthetic. You're going to be conscious and aware during the entire procedure. The initial cut won't hurt -- you have my abilities to thank for that -- but once the port is in place properly you're likely to feel a good deal of pain. I'll be able to give you a local anesthetic for the initial placement, but I don't think it'll do you much good so in the end that will be up to you."

He hangs her chart at the foot of her bed, looking up once again to watch her. He's curious to see how she'll deal with it, honestly. He's heard nothing but praise about her from all who knows her, but will she have the stomach for this?

"All in all it shouldn't take more than a few hours. I'm sure you've already been warned, but the use of my ability can be a bit... frightening to most people even when it's being used to heal. So just be aware of that."

"Whatever you think is best, though I would like to be able to observe as well -- seeing as I intend to aid with similar procedures in the future if others need it."

When he mentioned his ability being frightening, she sighed and shook her head, "It was a far more frightening experience that brought me to this point in the first place, I assure you. Even if I do become disoriented, I do not think it would remain a problem for very long."

Chopper will take that moment to stick his head in, already in Big!Mode since he would have actual fingers, half-way into his surgical gown... and his still-furry arms covered in soap. "I thought he was killing Mocha at first, but as I said earlier-"

He was about to say more but someone pulled him back into the other room. Before the door swung shut there was a rather impatient 'If you just let us shave you...'

"I told you to stay out while I was working on them!"

He frowns, crossing his arms over his chest. Law waits until Chopper's been dragged back to prep to continue his conversation with Adela.

"If you want to observe as well that can be easily arranged, but you might find it a bit disorienting."

She just watched Chopper for a few moments, unsure of how to take that before trying to shake it off and turning back to Law.

"I understand that, but is the experience not going to be disorienting regardless? I fail to see how a little further would do any harm."

[getaroom]

"It's one thing for me to detach your leg so I can work on it. It's another to detach your head and place it somewhere where you'd be able to observe your own operation."

Even when people know it's coming it's not something a person can really prepare for. It's one thing to say it in theory, but in practice it's a bit different. Offputting is probably the kindest way he could describe it.

"Wait, detach?"

That definitely got her attention, and it was probably apparent that no one had explained that part to her. Whoops.

"Yes, detach. I thought you had already been told about how my ability works."

There's a lingering question in his voice. He had been under the assumption that she had already been informed. He would have brought it up sooner had he realized that was not the case.

"I have been told that your ability was what enabled you to take the hearts of one hundred pirates, and what enabled the transfer of consciousness? From what Miss Tashigi has told me, at the least... But I am afraid I still do not fully understand it. All I truly knew what to expect was something unlike I had ever seen before."

[getaroom]

"You heard correctly. The fruit I ate is known at the op-op fruit which is short for operation. It turned me into a modification human. With it I am able to create a room like this," Law extends his hand out in front of him, calling out a single word, "Room."

A blue sphere grows and extends out from his hand, englufing the two of them in it and the sensation is not unlike passing through a thin film. He lets it stay there for a moment, letting Adela take in the sight of it, before he lets it disappear.

"Within that room I'm able to modify and move anything around as I see fit. I can remove things that are normally intangible -- things like souls and diseases -- and remove limbs and organs while leaving them fully functional."

"... Well, that does explain a lot," Adela tried her best to stay calm, but it was impossible to hide the crack in her voice when he mentioned that.

After a beat she shook her head, trying to snap out of it before taking a breath and turning to him again, "So I was right in what to expect, but at the same time I did not think it went quite so far as all that. It... It is sure to be a memorable experience, at any rate."
