I don't doubt the kindness of your friends, Bracken, I truly don't. I'm glad you've a keepsake of his; be sure to preserve that, all right? But even so, it doesn't change the sinfulness of the act. Even if many you knew did it, it'd still be wrong. That's why, as a friend, I'm asking you to desist from it.

[This was all pretty upsetting, from finding out about Katze to Ted telling him something was wrong with his friends. He wasn't exactly the type who could defend himself with words. He would certainly try to stick up for his friends, but other people could talk circles around him.]

[His voice was weak and saddened. Questioning his friends - or in this case, boyfriend - was far from easy for him. He assumed the best, never assumed the worst.

[Ted's a pretty emotional guy, and got teary himself upon seeing how much this was hurting Bracken. Even so, he had to stay strong and continue the course for his sake.]

He vaguely remembered something about stunted emotional growth, underdeveloped sense of masculinity, the gradually eroding sense of normalcy that led into wholesale deviance. Then there's the promiscuity, the drug use, and just...not a single thing that would be good for him.

But he's not a shrink; he can't speak to that with any authority beyond that of a well-meaning layman. Bracken seemed, in his own way, innocent enough to avoid most of those dangers. Ted's more attracted to fundamentals anyway. Rather than say something dry like being at greater risk for depression or something equally mentally hazardous, he'll try and go straight to the spirit of the matter.]

It's..."intrinsically disordered." That is, it...[He's having a hard time explaining this simply.] It's a depraved act that closes off sex from the gift of life. It goes against nature and denies the healthy bonds between man and woman. It takes the act of procreation and uses it merely for one's pleasure; a grave sacrilege if ever there was one.

Please Bracken, I don't say this to condemn or judge. I just want you to avoid something very harmful to you--to both of you--on a multitude of levels.

[There was a lot of upsetting stuff going on here. He'd been really happy when Katze said he wanted to be with him, but now he wasn't sure. He didn't know what was going on.

On top of it, Ted was talking about stuff where a lot went over his head. He wasn't religious, didn't know much about religion, and had gone through his life on basic gut feelings without any sort of guide. He never considered if something was good or bad based on reading about it. He just knew if the people were nice or not, or if they were hurting someone or not. There had never been more to it than that.

He sniffled as he listened, but he did listen. It just hurt. It even took him longer to respond, because not only was he having trouble taking a deep breath, but he also felt like he had a headache. It was all just making things extra difficult for him.]

D... Do you mean... m-making a baby?

[This was gonna be a pretty long slog, he could tell. Part of him wanted to give up right away. Not the greater part though.]

Yes, Bracken. That's the purpose behind it, and you shouldn't deny purpose like that. If you do, the act will defile you both.

B-But... I... I don't want a baby. I... I don't think I'd be a good f-father...

[He knew of his problems. Too well, probably. He doubted he was equipped, and he was at least responsible enough to avoid that type of responsibility.]

Heh, I don't know about that. People can surprise you and you rise to the occasion. [At least going completely off the rails made room for levity. But maybe that was the wrong tone.]

Anyway, I've said all I can. Again Bracken, I'm begging you, please don't indulge the practice. Even though it's what you're used to, even though many you knew did the same, don't. Please believe me when I say it will only do you harm. You're my friend and I...[He's getting leaky again.]

I just want what's best for you. If you believe anything I say, believe that.

[It was difficult when friends contradicted each other. He trusted, but who should he trust when people said different things? He didn't think Ted was bad, and he didn't think his friends were bad, and he didn't know who was right. It made him really unsure what to do.]

[It was hard enough trying to decide what ice-cream flavor to eat. Hell, he didn't usually even do that, his friends just told him what to get. How was he supposed to make a decision about this?]

He knew he was but one very small voice against the World, both Bracken's and everyone's; he could only pray that truth won out. He was a little hurt that Bracken thought he needed a second opinion; looks like he couldn't clinch it, vain hope that was.]

[It was a lot to ask for, even from someone who was so easily influenced. It was asking for him to go against so many friends and what he'd learned for years.

Still, he loved Ted, and believed in Ted, and wanted things to be okay.
