Log 001 | Arrival
action; genessia; outside the bay
[Fet casts an impressive shadow in the late summer sun, standing before Weiss' hologram, watching with interest as she speaks. Much like an attentive student during a lecture, he references the materials he was provided, fingers the pendant draped around his neck at it's mention, and looks toward the sky when the barrier is brought up. As the hologram continues its explanation, he reaches into one of the many pockets in his vest and withdraws a cigarillo, lighting it and holding it between his teeth for a moment before taking a drag and holding the flavorful smoke in his mouth for a second before releasing it slowly.
His jaw muscle works thoughtfully as the hologram finishes, and he brings the cigarillo to his lips again, taking a slower pull from the wrapped tobacco and releasing it with an exhaled sigh.]
...Is that right?
[His voice is heavily accented, something Eastern European, and he works his jaw thoughtfully again before he reaches into the pocket of his coat, much too warm for this weather, and pulls out the device he was left in the box, just like everyone else, looking down at it thoughtfully before tucking it back into his pocket.]
Kidnapped then, is it?
[A lot of the message is lost of Fet, though he assumes he'll come to understand it in time. He's more concerned about understanding who else might be here than figuring out where here is exactly, at least for the moment. He thought vampires overrunning the city was a big deal. This just made his life a lot more complicated.]

[Fet takes the phone back out of his pocket and turns it on. The interface is fairly intuitive, and starting the video transmission is pretty self-explanatory. He holds the phone up, greeting the network with a friendly smile. While his words are thickly accented, his command of the English language isn't in question.]
Hello, everyone. Or is it fellow captives? I don't know what to call the lot of us. Anyway, I'm Fet. Looks like I just got in off the boat.
[He begins to walk in the direction the documentation indicated toward the offered housing. A place to sleep is a good place to secure first, after all.]
I don't remember buying a ticket, but the vacation's nice. [He smirks.] Anybody know if it's paid, 'sides the cash they left with the phone, I mean. [And he shakes his head slightly.] Also, what can be said of this place, eh? I know what the welcome message said, and the pamphlet, but the best way to get to know a place is to ask the locals. I don't really care about what's outside the barrier, or any of that. Not yet. Just would like to know what a newbie should know.
[And he flashes the camera a charming smile.]
Thanks for listening.

video;
I know more about Nova City but perhaps I can help some? What exactly would you like to know?
[She finds that most of the newbie questions are all the same.]
video;
This Nova City is a part of this place, isn't it? Wouldn't hurt to know. Where's the best place to get a beer? A burger? Where has the cheapest milk? You know, thinks like that.
video;
[Her words are smooth and easy as she continues.]
Cheapest milk is a drug store on 15th. I like getting Burgers in New York. It's a sub-archway, not my New York but a copy. It appears that some of the shops and stores are the same.
video;
[His eyebrows shoot up in response to her second statement.] New York? It's here?
video;
[She teases lightly before continuing.]
A copy of it anyway. You'll probably find it a little different from your own New York, just as I did. Then again you might not. I can show you were it is if you'd like to take a look.
[Crystal has to pick something up in the city anyway.]
video;
[He smiles.]
Maybe I give it a look, or...you could show me around.
video;
[She likes his smile.]
What's so significant about your New York?
video;
Me too. I've lived there most of my life.
[He rolls his shoulder in a shrug, though he frowns as though to let her know he's serious.]
Plague. Turns normal folks into bloodthirsty monsters.
video;
[She smiles though it's obvious that she's taking his words seriously.]
If you'd like me to show you the way I can. I don't know how long I can stay. I have a date tonight.
video;
[He smiles.]
And whoever he is, he's a very lucky man. Or woman. Either way, lucky.
video;
I'm happy to hear that you're a big boy and yes he is. I'll make sure to remind him of that.
If you need anything else, you have my number.
video;
Your boyfriend's not gonna get jealous if I give you a call, is he?
video;
[She flashes him a suggestive smile.]
Nothing to be jealous of, is there?
video;
Not at all.
video;
[She smiles before flicking off the screen.]

Thanks. I'll look over it later. [He pauses, though.] It doesn't say much about structures, though. Locations, businesses. They only gave me so much of a starter fund, and if I don't know the in places, I'm going to be shafted like a summer tourist.

[He pauses.]
The nice lady with the welcome message said there are several cities, and each are different. Wherever people gather, munchers always follow behind. They're scavengers, and people are very messy. Different places attract different vermin, though. What do you know of these? In Everglade, Genessia, Nova City, Attleton, Fayren? Different munchers for different folks, right?
no subject
Afraid I don't know what a 'muncher' is, but you're some sort of exterminator? What are you used to? What color is your pendant?
no subject
[He smiles.]
I'm a rat catcher. Recently, I've started hunting bigger rats. [He pulls the pendant from his pocket to check.] Blue.
no subject
Ah, that marks you for Everglade then, to the west. There's certainly a lot that goes bump in the night there, if you don't mind the numinous too much. I'm sure they could use a man of your talents, so long as you're discriminate. There are, after all, decent people who have bad looks.
no subject
Never met a decent muncher, just so you know.
no subject
[He can't believe he's saying this, but time and experience have prevented some strange exceptions]
If they act on that impulse, no, I suppose they aren't. Just be careful. It's confusing, I know, but there are some who have familiar names and categories that aren't anything like what we're used to. I've known monsters and demons to behave like perfect gentlemen. By their fruits, know them, and all that.

Eheh, it's not always pretense, mind. Be good, all right? And let me know should you need anything. I'm grown very familiar with the world.

Don't you worry about a thing. I'm an angel.
action; genessia; outside the bay
She isn't the type that likes to simply sit and do nothing. When she arrives at the bay she's surprised to find the older man standing in front of the hologram. She's seen it a half dozen times now and has the information memorized.]
Excuse me.
[Her accent isn't as thick as his. After spending so much time traveling it's become less pronounced but it's obviously from England.]
Have you just arrived? [It's a stupid question though Alice feels that it's worth asking.]
action; genessia; outside the bay
What gave me away? [He shifts his eyes back toward the descending ramp into the bay, then back to this new woman.] Vasiliy Fet.
action; genessia; outside the bay
Alice Colwin. It's nice to meet you Mr.Fet. [She prefers to be proper until she knows how he prefers to be addressed.] You were studying the message.
What do you make of all this?
action; genessia; outside the bay
I don't know. There are a lot of tourist pamphlets, you know? Where to stay, what to do, things like that. Not a lot about the long stay, though.
[He looks over to her.] And it's going to be a long stay, isn't it? [He shrugs. That seems to be the least of his concerns at the moment.] This place is more than it seems, but it probably doesn't take much to see that.
[He motions back toward the bay.]
I've never seen structure like that place. Man-made, worked stone, but natural, too. Not a building method I'm familiar with. Here? Here is like any city you might find in America, downtown I mean. [He accentuates the next comment with a motion back to the hologram.] These domes, these other cities. It sounds familiar, doesn't it? Like a model inside a snow globe. This Genessia City, it's replicating architecture. My money's on the rest being the same thing. Life-size models. But that, [And he motions back to the bay] that was made standard. It's not a model. It's built the way the people who designed this place build. It's like looking out through all this glass, getting a glimpse at the people shaking the globe.
action; genessia; outside the bay
[She doesn't like the idea of it being a long stay but she'll make the best of what she's given. That's what Alice has always done and she isn't about to let that change. It's a strength, to keep moving forward even when dark clouds gather overhead.]
The stone here is layed like any regular stone but you're right in that this cave and structure isn't natural. If it was formed naturally then it was formed somewhere else, where the water or weather could affect the inside walls. [She gestures as if what she's talking about is obvious.] You know a lot about architecture. Is that what you did before?
action; genessia; outside the bay
Sort of. I spend a lot of my time underground, and it's what I went to school for.
action; genessia; outside the bay
I can tell. [It's impressive but Alice gets the feeling that Fet knows more than his appearances might suggest.] If you aren't an architect can I ask what it is that you do?
action; genessia; outside the bay
Don't see why not. [He raises the badge hanging around his neck so she can get a better look.] I'm a rat catcher.
action; genessia; outside the bay
[She's never heard of that profession but then she supposes that London probably has rat catchers considering how much of a problem they can be. It isn't the sort of thing she's put a lot of thought into.]
Are there many rats where you're from?
action; genessia; outside the bay
You never heard of New York City rats before? Thought they were world famous.
action; genessia; outside the bay
I've heard of London rats. Which are very large but I've not been to New York. My work takes me far away from cities.
action; genessia; outside the bay
If a city has people, it has rats. [He shrugs.] Vermin always follow food. [He looks interested, though.] What work do you do?
action; genessia; outside the bay
[She lightly pushes a strand of long hair behind her ear before looking back up at Fet.]
action; genessia; outside the bay
action; genessia; outside the bay
[She likes rocks and history and she's proud of it.]
It can be exciting despite how droll it sounds.
action; genessia; outside the bay
Doesn't sound droll at all.
action; genessia; outside the bay
I'm glad you think so.
