[The cold reality that somehow; he was still alive hadn't done much to ease Sync upon his waking in the cocoon.

So, the teen relied on his training. He just let go and moved to the beat of the logic that had been enforced upon him; become familiar with his surroundings; learn to use his new tools; look for points of interest to establish a base. After some time though; Sync was sitting on a bench, mentally drained from the effort. He knew enough to have a small area, knew he had temporary lodging, and he needed to get a job.

At least Genessia City was marginally interesting.]

Depending on your skills from the previous world, it can be easy or hard. Have you found the employment board?

I have, but my skills basically consist of "covert operations" and "tracking people". It isn't a resume for getting by in a place like this.

You're someone who can't settle for a peaceful job, are you?

You would fall under commission based mercernary or bounty hunter or body guard. I'm a bounty hunter, so that's how I know.

I find settling for something I never wanted to begin with pointless.

I'll look into either Merc or bounty hunter though.

You should check this week's newspaper for available assignments. Keep in mind of the rules and regulations. All bounties are no kills. You must capture and bring the criminal to the authorities for legal processing before getting paid.

[Perfect timing, considered the Nova City rules and regulated is posted there, giving every bounty hunter a good idea. While restricted to the city itself, it serves as a standard for every other city.]

That's a handy bit of advice. I do like the challenge of live bounties.

[Anise was wondering the streets trying to figure her way around when she noticed a familiar color of green. Turning her full attention, she couldn't help as she felt the bottom of her stomach drop at seeing a young man who should be very much dead. She felt like a dear in headlights as she openly stared at him.]

[It took several seconds to feel the eyes on him, but it was undeniable once he did. Looking up, he glanced over, a frown quickly blooming on his features. Quickly his communicator disappeared inside his jacket as he hopped from the bench, crouching in front of it.]

What do you want?

[Of all the people to run into first, it was her. The only thing worse was...Well no. Maybe Arietta since he didn't have a mask now, but this confirmed his fears and had been why he was resorting to anonymous texts.

People sure did like to talk about "second chances" but he knew that even if he considered that; this group would never allow it.]

[The puppeteer wordlessly stared for a few more moments before she about-faced and started walking away from him. She didn't have kind words for those who were instantly hostile either.]

[Not trusting this for a few seconds, he waited, until yes; it seemed she was done with him.

He muttered something to himself before taking a seat on the bench once more. He was fine with with this, he told himself. Sync didn't want to 'reminisce' or talk about the good fortune of still being alive, given Anise was one of his murderers.

This was fine, he told himself, watching the pink shrink more into the distance. It was fine. They had tried to give him a chance to come to peace with what he never wanted.

His fists balled tightly enough the leather of his gloves squeaked. It was fine.]

[He was up and moving. It helped that he was faster than most on any given day as he sprinted some feet in front of her to avoid her fist like some green and white blur. His jacket tails billowed in the wind as he suddenly stopped. He didn't want to look at her directly again, yet. He kept his ears trained in case she suddenly became hostile.]

I just wanna know. You didn't bring me here, did you? This really isn't Auldrant?

[A white gloved hand rested over a yellow paw as she stopped and took a cautious step back. She never liked the games he played, in battle and outside of it. If there was a person to successfully counter any of her sneaky tactics it would be him by a long shot.

And then he had to go and ask stupid questions.]

No stupid, I didn't bring you here. And yes, it's really not Auldrant. Pretty far from it actually.

[The words slipped out before she could stop them. Then again he did a lot to make her angry to begin with.]

[Perhaps, of all of them; he could count on Anise to help enable him into old habits.

Well damn, I was hoping at least the company would be better than Anise The Flat and her bratty ways.

[Sync hadn't meant to bait her, he just had run out of things to say and couldn't bring himself to let her just completely go. So, when she had taken the bait so readily, he now turned with a grin on his face. Pressing her for a reaction had always been a bit fun, and if he could take no other joy from a life he never wanted; teasing others would have to do.]

Good thing there's Jade, Luke and you're girlfriend as well.

[It was now her turn to grin, in the end when it came to him she was very much petty in so many ways. He definitely brought out the worst in her, which was not good in the least.]

Though, with your face showing like that, it's a tossup on whether she'll dump you or try to keep you even more.

[She's making low blows today.]

[At this, the teen bristled. Arietta's 'do I, don't I' crush had been the worst thing anyone could possibly deal with. He had brushed it off as just being slightly closer in age, but they weren't that close, really. What fueled his anger the most though...was the fact she was right. She'd either violently reject him because he never told her the truth and had sided with Van in keeping the lie going, or she'd ignore that and cling to him more. He'd never be able to believe it was for any reason except that he looked just like Ion. It was an image he worked so hard to bury, but her words just brought home that he needed a new mask.]

Speaking of, seen any weaklings or did they get lucky enough to stay dead? Besides with him out of the way; maybe you won't feel so bad when you hit up all the rich, old men.

[It was time for both to resort to low blows.]

[Anise bristled in turn. Somehow he always managed to keep toe to toe with her when it came to stupid spats like this one. In an odd way it was something she liked and hated at the same time.]

Lucky enough to stay dead? You need help crossing over again because at this rate I'll be more than happy to help you pass on.

[She'll ignore that rich old men comment for right now. Apparently they were just going to yell about their issues or end up physically fighting.]

[Now, Sync laughed. It seemed the brunette had forgotten a few small facts. She was a capable fighter, that much was true. He moved his hands to his hips briefly, before he suddenly lunged, in her face far to quickly, and reaching for her arms.]

I'd love to see what made today different than any other time--

[Then he was flipping over her and moving out of her, and Tokunaga's reach again, off to her left this time.]

--Since, I think you had to have help to put me down.

[He was unsure, though. She was different in a way, it could have been that she seemed a bit older; perhaps she wasn't as flat anymore as he assumed, she could have a hint more power if she hadn't slacked on her training. He was still in his prime, it just meant he had to be careful. Maybe time had passed for her.]

[Anise had ducked and rolled away when he decided to flip over her. His speed was nothing to sneeze at, that was for sure. She had been keeping up with her training thankfully, though nothing quite trains like real action. She placed a hand on Tokunaga's but then realized just what kind of repercussions this fight may bring, especially in a crowded city. Was there a rule against fighting? She wasn't all that sure...

The puppeteer clicked her tongue in annoyance, before resuming a non aggressive stance.]

Mind the crowd, Sync. It'd be bad to attract one now of all times.

[Speaking of, his gymnastics had caught a few stares]

[He cut a glance to the gathered group, and took a bow. Sync then crossed over and hooked her arm through his, leaning close as if to whisper a sweet nothing.]

Then play along; you've done this before, right?

[He told himself it was just a serve a purpose. They might believe it was just some young fool, head-over-heels. It was worth a try anyway, if she wasn't out to immediately demonize him; he'd take it until he finally made up his mind.

If he ever made up his mind.

Likely, he'd never make up with mind. Not without effort from an outside source. He gave a light pull to start her walking with him until they could lose the onlookers.]

[Plus...there was no Van. He hadn't really even wanted that conquest, but that man's verve and determination to do what he felt was right had been so uplifting and polarizing that it had given Sync something he secretly wanted; a place. He'd always act like he was bitter about everything, but having a role that hadn't been taken away just because of forces outside his control had been...

It'd been all he ever wanted.]

[Chiaki was just wondering around, playing her hand held at the same time. Her focus wasn't on her surrounding as much, but the moment she managed to finish a level she would take a breath and look up. Sure she had gotten better with not doing it as much, but sometimes when she was alone, it was just something she could do.

Eyes glancing around she couldn't help but notice the green among what seemed to be various normal hair colours of most natives around.]

[Anise managed to not make a face as he hooked and arm around her, upon his instructions she pressed close before playfully booping his nose with a finger.

Of course being suddenly directed elsewhere, she couldn't help the slight panic that set in.

Of course his words were only slightly reassuring.]

[He wasn't deeply amused by her disbelief. He also knew people were apt to lie when it convinced them; so he was going to be skeptical on any handouts until he learned they really were genuine. Walking her until they had separated from the gathered group, he let go of her and stepped a few paces away with a sigh.]

People lie, Anise. I wanted to make sure.

[Which, he was a liar too. He had only lived a few short years, but he had learned to lie, and if he were in the mood to wax poetic, he might talk about a great many things on life.

However, he wasn't in that kind of mood.]

[There was a long pause as Sync lifted his head to look over and observe the girl.]

...Yeah.

[He put his hands together in front of him now as he felt on edge. They looked very preoccupied so perhaps the worry was needless. He opted for naivety as that was usually helpful to get information.]
