Mission 1: Rising Eagle [Action / Video]

[Action]

[He awoke, dazed, groggy, and out of sorts, a strange weight on his chest, but feeling oddly comfortable otherwise. In an initial panic born of shock, he shot upright and looked around his environment... a cave, filled with water and dimly, but somehow comfortably lit. To say he was confused about where he was, let alone how he got here, was confusing. This... certainly wasn't what he was expecting after what he had just been through.

He looked down into his lap, where the weight had fallen, discovering the box left for all newcomers. Looking inside, the man was... immediately even more puzzled. Why would he need a cellular phone, a key, and money? After all, wasn't he...?

Either way, he wisely tucked the gifts and brochure into his flight suit's pockets, checking if he had everything on him that he had with him. He did, oddly enough, including his issued sidearm. Best as he could tell, he was only missing one thing... but that would have to wait. The pilot rose from his cocoon, and marched through the water... and onto the pier, greeted by Weiss' helpful welcome message.

...Honestly, as helpful as it was, several of the comments, and the candor they were delivered with, left him more baffled than anything.

Kidnapping? Dangers outside a barrier? People trying to prove how powerful they are? Multiple attempts to sabotage that hologram device? World domination? Just what kind of place was this? A madhouse? Regardless, this wasn't the fate he had in mind... and was suddenly very glad he still had his handgun. Either way, it was then that he put on that awfully gaudy-looking necklace with bright yellow stones in it. If nothing else, the color was appropriate.

Still, he grabbed a brochure of everything remotely of interest in the racks nearby, and then headed into the city proper. An obvious newcomer, looking carefully at every street sign and business of note along the way. He eventually settled into a small cafe, someplace to get a cheap cup of coffee while he read some of these pamphlets... and to take off his flight helmet finally.

If approached at any time, he'll be social enough, but he might appear a little on edge. Perhaps understandably, The flight suit, helmet, military patches, and gun are a dead-giveaway for a soldier of some sort, and one clearly out of his element.

Eventually, a few hours later, he'll feel comfortable enough to use the smartphone to broadcast a message. Maybe, just maybe, someone out there might be from his world... or at least, he'll meet friendly locals.]

Given the preparedness of this city for people arriving in, I can only conclude it happens on a regular basis, and with it, comes appropriate introductions.

I am Major David Jordan, callsign "Yellow 13." I serve in the Federal Erusian Air Force as the flight leader of the 156th Fighter Wing. We are formally known as Aquila Squadron, though most know us simply as Yellow Squadron. If any of those things mean anything to anyone here, I would like to hear from you immediately.

Since returning home is clearly not an option in the foreseeable future, I'll be looking for civilian employment shortly. If anyone knows someone who has need of someone experienced in the operation and maintenance of aircraft and related technology, logistics, leadership, and knowledge of aerodynamics and physics, I request that you let me know. Thank you in advance.

Finally... would anyone happen to know where a nice, quiet bar might be?

[He might need a drink tonight.]

[Blaze was busy rearranging a few documents in Attleton's Guardian office, not paying too much mind to his device while he left it open and running incase anything of importance came through. He didn't expect anything to, but once he heard a few particular terms, he froze in his spot.

Federal Erusian Airforce? Yellow Squadron? Yellow 13?

He hastily dropped the documents on his desk and scrambled over to turn on video, utter disbelief written all over his face.]

I'm sorry, did you just say you were from the Federal Republic of Erusea?

[Say, is that an Osean flag on Blaze's flight jacket?]
ghostofrazgriz: (Huh?)

[personal profile] ghostofrazgriz 2016-10-02 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Blaze had his own sense of relief in his mind, but for very different reasons. He'd never expected anyone from his world to show up, whether it be one of his own wingmen or someone from another continent. If anything, he didn't expect to meet a pilot he'd heard of. A pilot he'd read about and respected.

Blaze nodded, gaining some sense of composure, standing like any stiff military officer would.]

Yes. Well, former OADF. I'm Blaze, I used to lead the 108th Tactical Fighter Squadron.

[It wouldn't exactly take a rocket scientist to tell that Blaze wasn't exactly comfortable with the idea of giving out his real name. If there were any downside to the appearance of someone like Thirteen, it would be reaffirming to Blaze that there would be a chance that an enemy would show up- Yuktobania, Osean, Belkan or otherwise.]

You said you're... Yellow 13? The same Yellow 13 that was one of Erusea's top aces?
ghostofrazgriz: (X-02?)

[personal profile] ghostofrazgriz 2016-10-02 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Blaze certainly hadn't meant to use that word, and when he realizes he did, he would mentally kick himself for it. But, he didn't exactly know the fate of the Yellow Squadron pilots over Farbanti. Erusea didn't allow information to leak out of the country easily.]

It's an honor to have the chance to meet you. I looked up to you a lot when I was studying to become a pilot.

[As well as looked up to Cipher and Mobius One, but he'll at least choose not to mention the latter. That's a pilot that he doesn't know if Thirteen has a sore spot for, and he wasn't going to chance it. Still, there was almost child-like wonder in Blaze's eyes for the moment, it's not everyday one gets to meet one of their idols... until he caught himself and put back on a more neutral expression.]

I'm sorry, I doubt this is anything you want to hear right now. Is there anything you need to know about this place? I'm the Guardian of Attleton, so I'll do my best to aid you.
ghostofrazgriz: (Wardog)

[personal profile] ghostofrazgriz 2016-10-02 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[That was a sentiment that Blaze knew all too well, as evidenced by that faint smile on his face.]

It's the same for me. I never would have gotten anywhere without them.

[And then Belka would have been free to get away with their nefarious plot. His eyes had drifted away from the screen and to the photo on his desk, but he was quick to put his attention back on the feed. It wouldn't do him any good to get sidetracked again.]

There are a number of bars in all of the cities, but I think the ones in Genessia City and Attleton will likely be the quietest. Jack's Bar is a popular one in Genessia, but it doubles as a karaoke bar. I think I heard there's a good one not too far from the Guardian's office in Attleton.

[He doesn't frequent bars very much. Or... a lot of places, for that matter. Not that he really has the time to.

Blaze pauses before going onto to answer the other question, letting out a bit of a sigh.]

"Cases" is right. We've had people show up that claim their the new supreme rulers, there are enough bizarre crimes that happen that bounty hunters are essentially a necessity, and don't even get me started on the Genessia Tribune's paperboy.

[He's had three newspapers thrown at him. It's a good thing he was good at dodging high speed objects.]

It can be nice, but I'm not going to deny the "crazy" part of it. And if you want any advice, I would recommend staying well away from Everglade.

ghostofrazgriz: (what)

[personal profile] ghostofrazgriz 2016-10-02 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Some people here actually came from a world like that, so Everglade is where they feel at home. I'd say it's hard to believe, but after I woke up here the first time in Nova City, I'm willing to believe anything at this point.

[There's a good reason why he prefers to stay in Genessia City and Attleton. They're the most normal ones.]

There is, but as I've come to learn, Guardians and law enforcement can get easily overwhelmed. Bounty hunters actually make our lives easier sometimes. Granted, I'm speaking from Attleton's stand point, and its law enforcement situation is nothing like any of the other cities.
ghostofrazgriz: (Onlook)

[personal profile] ghostofrazgriz 2016-10-02 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
You're probably right. Since Osea had the Arkbird, who knows where their technology would have gone if they had more resources.

[Emphasis on the "had" there.]

Given the rate of our world's technological marvels getting destroyed, it might be for the best that we aren't advancing that fast.

[He shakes his head. If anything, Attleton had a lack of red tape.]

No, Attleton doesn't have a police force. Its law enforcement boils down to me, Dante and those living in the town.
ghostofrazgriz: (Wardog)

[personal profile] ghostofrazgriz 2016-10-02 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
No kidding.

[He just makes that solemn remark on that one. The Arkbird was supposed to be a symbol of peace. Leave it to the Belkans to give cause for it to be turned into a weapon.]

It was a surprise to me too, but it's surprisingly effective. We still need mercenary aid sometimes for occasional bounties, but otherwise the citizen's arrest system is pretty solid. But even so, I'd still like to put something else in place to give the city an extra sense of security, but I've only thought about a small K-9 unit.
ghostofrazgriz: (what)

[personal profile] ghostofrazgriz 2016-10-03 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
That was something I had considered, actually. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to start looking into it more seriously, especially after the spread of a disease that was only recently cured.

[And since the source of the disease and the cure were both in Attleton, his focus was entirely on that. Things have been more than a little rough, that's for sure.]

Since we have nothing like that at home either, I wouldn't know where to even begin. My only area of expertise are Tomcats.
ghostofrazgriz: (X-02?)

[personal profile] ghostofrazgriz 2016-10-03 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
That's putting it lightly. Lately it feels like everything's hitting at once. Having to go through an eccentric theme park to make the cure for that disease sounds like it should have been the plot of a TV show in itself.

[What is his life even. Still, getting a compliment from Yellow Thirteen of all pilots? Talk about humbling.]

Unfortunately not. But even if it was, supposedly there's some barrier in the skies that prevent aircraft from being able to attain altitude. Guys like us are effectively grounded.

[He does miss flying, but he'd also been out of a war for a number of months now, so getting used to a grounded life has been on his agenda anyway.]

Now that you mention it, Nova City probably would have a better selection in equipment. I have a tranquilizer pistol, but beyond that and a proper handgun, I can't say I'm well equipped.

But now I'm curious if they do have those kinds of guns. If they do, remind me not to wear a red shirt while wielding one.

[He can't help but be grinning a little bit. He's a nerd, he can't help it.]

[personal profile] ghostofrazgriz 2016-10-07 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
[As much as Blaze didn't like the idea of being grounded and wanted to be able to fly peaceful skies for once, he knew it wasn't going to happen here. Not unless one of them did one particular thing.]

The only way we would be able to fly again is if we opened a subarchway back to a place in our world. But that would involve sacrificing something important in order to do so. I can't deny that it's crossed my mind a few times, but me getting airborne again is unlikely.

[You know, potentially being wanted by Osea's secret service is a cause for concern and all. After all, his squadron has to wait ten years before the Ghosts of Razgriz documents would be released.

Blaze raised a hand to his chin as he thought for a moment, before he gave a nod.]

Yes, you're right. I hadn't thought of that. Dante is an accomplished demon hunter, so I have no doubt he'd be able to get by just fine, but I never thought about a long range advantage for myself. Thank you.

[No wonder Thirteen was such a renowned leader if he had that kind of foresight that someone like Blaze had easily glossed over. He might have to start considering some minor bike modifications to potentially carry some extra equipment. He hesitated a moment again.]

Actually, once I complete my current shift, I could treat you to a few drinks. If you'd like to, that is.

[He doesn't really drink often but it seemed polite to at least offer, especially to someone who actually came from the same place he did.]

[Burying herself in work has been Litchi's coping mechanism for this particular odd turn in her life, and today is hardly any different. The plan is to stop off at a small cafe on the way to work and pick up a coffee. She doesn't often stop anywhere, and she also doesn't often drink coffee, but today, it feels like tea just won't cut it.

And when she turns to take her coffee and leave, she just to happens to see the man reading through pamphlets at a small table, flight helmet sat out in front of him.

The buzz of the Boundary at the edge of her hearing grows a bit louder, but she tries to ignore it. There's something... very familiar about this person. And she just can't quite help herself as she walks over to say hello.

This is probably ridiculous, but... well, doesn't everyone deserve a friendly greeting after such a strange awakening? With all these pamphlets, he must be new.]

Excuse me, but... you seem a little out of sorts. Are you alright?
not_meatbuns: (contented smile)

[personal profile] not_meatbuns 2016-10-02 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[In spite of a feeling like a migraine beginning to throb at one temple, a small but genuine smile spread across her face. There was something terribly familiar about this man, but... if he had only just arrived here, and those military patches looked nothing like anything back home, it must just be her imagination.

But that didn't mean she wasn't feeling strangely at ease, enough to let out a soft chuckle.]

No, no, don't worry about it, please. We didn't have anything quite like this where I come from, either. There have been... theories, but as far as I know, that was all.

[Other kinds of strangeness, yes, but not this particular one.]

But yes, I've only just arrived here as well. Er... it was really almost a month ago, but I'm afraid I'm still catching up, too. [Her smile went decidedly sheepish. Way to go, Litchi; interrupt this poor man and just talk like you're old friends.] I'm sorry, I'm being rude... my name is Litchi.
not_meatbuns: (wtf is that outside the window)

[personal profile] not_meatbuns 2016-10-02 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[As she shifted her coffee from her right hand to the left, several things happened at once. The name popped into her head a shade of a second before he said it. Something about his smile grabbed her attention and sent a faint blush to her cheeks. The faint sensation of an impending migraine turned into a full-fledged migraine that hit her like a train. And the Boundary's buzz grew louder. Something, small wisps of words and conversations floated in the feedback, but nothing was clear enough to make out. There was just... so much.

Had... had she met him before? It couldn't be possible.

And he was offering a hand to shake. Trying not to let on that her head was a sudden quagmire, she took the offered hand. Just a handshake, Litchi. Easy. Ignore the rattling in your lungs. It always dies down again.]

W-well, that certainly explains the flight helmet. The pleasure is all mine. [God, but her head hurt. The caffeine in the coffee might help. She hoped. With a soft cough, she tried to keep herself steady.] Please, feel free to just call me Litchi.

[It was getting hard to focus, but she was determined not to let the Boundary get the better of her. She couldn't panic every time it did this. It had happened before and everything was fine.]

Did you have any questions that I might be able to help with? I may not be the best guide, but I can at least give you directions to the hospital. [Beat.] F-for future reference, of course.
not_meatbuns: (Eheheh...)

[personal profile] not_meatbuns 2016-10-03 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Caught. Litchi couldn't quite help a sinking feeling. Lying had never been her strong point. The sheepish look returned in earnest.]

I'm alright, really. It's just a headache.

[She hoped that sounded more convincing than she thought it did. It was a headache, even if there was so much more. Hoping that she could push past it by switching subjects right back, she tried just that.]

But... life in general, hm? In some ways, things are very much like being back home, and in some others, it's very different. To be honest, it's much more peaceful here than I'm used to. No one has tried to pick a fight with me here, which is more than I can say for home.

[A month without Tao jumping on her had been... somehow a blessing and a curse, all at once. In spite of the buzzing feedback and the pain behind her left eye, she gave him a playful smile. Somehow, it just came up all on its own.]

I imagine it'll be a bit quiet for an air force major like yourself, as well.
not_meatbuns: (Exasperation.)

[personal profile] not_meatbuns 2016-10-03 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah-- Thank you. Very much.

[As she sank down into the other chair, suddenly, she caught a faint whiff of... pancakes? A different table swam into focus and then back out again. Focus on the cardboard of the cup, Litchi. It's solid and it's real.

He asked a question. Her smile turning a bit wry, she chuckled.]

One of my students back home is... how should I put this... a bit... rambunctious. She considers it playing.

[And then there was Tager, trying to drag her away from her mission. Or even him, so far gone that he would lash out at anyone. But those didn't need to be shared.]

The city could get a bit dangerous from time to time, too, but I'm normally just the person patching others up again.
not_meatbuns: (Mou)

[personal profile] not_meatbuns 2016-10-07 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
She's... certainly something else. A force of nature, some might argue.

[Tao was, after all, unlike anything else but Tao. Regardless, Litchi loved her odd student, ridiculous nicknames aside.

Fiddling absently with her coffee cup, Litchi gave a nod.]

And yes, I am. I owned a small clinic back home. I have to admit, I'm a bit concerned with how my patients will hold up while I'm here. Something tells me that the passing of time here doesn't make much difference, though.

[She could swear that someone said something along those lines, but she couldn't quite remember who.]
not_meatbuns: (Heartwarmed.)

[personal profile] not_meatbuns 2016-10-07 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Good lord, Litchi, you don't have to smile like an idiot at that faint praise. You're being ridiculous.

Half to mask her smile, half to try to soothe both rattling nerves and rattling lungs, she took a sip of her own coffee. When she glanced back up, the introspective look on his face made concern stir within her. Probably best not to ask about it. No matter what the Boundary may be bouncing at her, deja vu aside, she was very sure it was a topic for another time.]

I certainly hope so. My assistant is a sweet girl, but she has a lot to learn, still.

[The rattling lungs finally managed to get to her enough to draw out a soft cough, but she had to stop letting it get to her. Another sip of coffee quelled any further coughing, and a playful spark in her eye (hopefully) would quell suspicion.]

You know, you might just be the first military man I've heard speak so highly of doctors and teachers. The soldiers back home can be quite a bit rougher around the edges.

[Not that she's met too many from the NOL, but given their reputation in Orient Town? It was easy enough to fall back on.]
not_meatbuns: (Wink!)

[personal profile] not_meatbuns 2016-10-08 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Alright, there went that attempt not to smile like a dork. Litchi couldn't quite help herself. What had gotten into her today?]

That's true, isn't it? Leading by example is just as much a way of teaching as anything else. Moreso, in some cases.

You're a wise man, Major Jordan.

But sure hold on. I'll be right there.

[and it's not too much longer than Ace comes rolling up on a skateboard modified with seemingly decorative exhaust pipes, and a small pug with sunglasses sitting in front of him]

I know at least two quiet bars, so you're going to have to specify whether you want creepy alley trip bar but it's quiet-quiet or one that's quiet except for karaoke performers since most people actually listen to the performances.
