I Was Searching For a Clue
WHO: Raye Hino, Satsuki Kiryuin
WHAT: Satsuki is trying to discover the truth of Genessia, and pays a visit to the newly-inducted spirit representative. They'll either get along or scream each other's heads off.
WHEN: April 25, 2014
WHERE: Genessia Shrine
Raye's mood was significantly lighter, now that she no longer had to rely on painkillers or a crutch to propel herself around the shrine. Doing chores while hobbling about on a bum leg was hard work, but it wasn't as if she had a great deal of other duties to tend to, like school and being a sailor scout. Things were peaceful, and she was glad for that. Jaune was doing well, and her friend Minako had shown up.
On top of all of this, she was busy preparing for the cherry blossom viewing festival. She'd contacted some of the local eateries to see if anyone would be interested in setting up a food cart nearby, and the results were positive. There was a lot of work to be done. The courtyard and steps needed to be swept, the chickens fed, the shrine floors scrubbed, the bell polished... It was never ending.
At the moment, she was standing near the top of a stepladder she'd procured in order to hang strings of paper lanterns across the courtyard and from the boughs of the cherry trees already heavy with pink blossoms. She wore the scarlet and white of her old temple maiden's garb, her long black hair tied near the waist to keep stray locks from blowing into her face while she maintained her careful balance. Her brow was furrowed, all of her concentration focused on the task at hand and making her heedless of any temple visitors. It wasn't as if she was expecting anybody.

Ever since she'd arrived in Genessia, she had made an effort to avoid using the communicators here and so she's made the long walk to the shrine to meet Raye Hino in person with the confidence that she'll get some answers to her questions.
The Shinto priestess may not be expecting anyone at this time, but she may hear the clack of her heels upon stone. If not that, perhaps she'll feel the overbearing presence of the Student Council President as she approaches, her pace a 'perfect' rhythm until she comes to a stop.
"Raye Hino." she flatly greets.

Hearing the sound of her full name set her on edge; the way Mab had said it before made her suspicious of the icy fairy's intentions.
But this was not Mab. This was someone completely unknown to Raye. "Can I help you?" How did this woman know her name, anyway? She'd given out her first name in the broadcast she made a few days ago, but not her family name. Maybe someone had referred her to the priestess.
no subject
"Perhaps." Satsuki replies with a small nod, "I'm Satsuki, I've arrived here last month. I've found you, along with a few others, have been denizens for a significant amount of time- I've some questions for you if you have the time. About this place, of course."
no subject
"That's right, I have. Nice to meet you." Raye climbed down from the ladder, a small swell of pride welling up in her chest. She'd been offering guidance to newcomers off and on, but it wasn't often that anyone ever accepted her help. Satsuki had sought her out specifically, which meant her experience was finally being respected.
About time!
She nodded in agreement. "Sure, I'll answer what I can. What's up?" She folded her sleeves together. If these were just simple run-of-the-mill questions, it shouldn't take long. But if things got complicated, then it would be best to go inside and sit down to discuss things over tea.
no subject
"I suppose I should start with the smaller questions then. First, I was curious to know if anyone has successfully obtained one of each charm." She assumes not, but just to be certain.
no subject
"Not that I know of," she shook her head. "Harry and I have been around the longest. There's one other guy who might have been around longer, and I really hope he didn't collect a full set. He's a massive jerk."
She'd never had much to do with M, and she preferred to keep it that way. He'd nearly killed her friend Ruby, but he'd been pretty quiet for the most part. Raye hoped the spirits gave him the boot, because they seriously didn't need a poisonous little spider like him (or her) causing that kind of chaos.
no subject
"Then I can leave the second question aside for now. My greatest curiosity is in regards to the supercomputer that I've failed to find any other information about other than it's existance. Have you confronted this machine before?"
no subject
But she reigned in her quick temper. She was supposed to help people out, answer the questions that the spirits couldn't always respond to.
"The computer isn't sentient, if that's what you're getting at," Raye replied, relaxing slightly. "It's just a means of allowing the people in the city and the spirits that made this place to communicate. That's sort of what I'm here for too."
no subject
As for M, she recalls that name, though for the moment she couldn't place why it was familiar to her; only that it would make sense that Raye, amongst others, would be annoyed with them. "I'll be certain to keep an eye out, then."
"As of now the only thing I am 'getting at' is seeking more information than I knew before about it- which was that it merely exists. As you can probably tell I am attempting to understand what the true objective of this thing. For now I am guessing that this all is some sort of study." She raises her hand to her chin. ".. Tell me a little about these 'spirits', if you would?"
no subject
"There are five, one watching over each city and maintaining the barriers around them," Raye explained, letting her hands relax at her sides once more. "They're responsible for maintaining these places too, making sure we have what we need to get by. They're not malicious so much as they are..." What was a good word for it? "...Unsocialized, I guess. They don't exactly understand the difference between good and evil, which is why we get people like M and Bison in the city."
no subject
"I take it you understand all of this because you possess the ability to communicate with the spirits. Does this mean that you also know the point of this arrangement?"
no subject
She sighed, leaning back against a tree with folded arms and bowed head.
"They think we can restore the planet with our emotions. The more we feel, the more good it does. I think that's why the spirits don't differentiate between ordinary people and sadistic psychopaths. Conflict leads to emotions, even if those emotions are horrible."
no subject
....
[Well.. There's no dancing around this, is there? This had suddenly become Satsuki's problem.]
I believe I understand why you would be hesitant to mention that. It seems I have little choice but to do my part, then.
But that does beg the question of how the charms come into play in all of this. If someone collected enough to make a wish, could they simply wish the planet to be restored?
no subject
If the spirits had that kind of power, we wouldn't be here. There are limits on the wishes, and they can only affect the areas within the city barriers.
[She sighs.]
Sure would be nice if it were that simple, though.
[Satsuki's response impresses Raye a little. She hears the truth, accepts it, and deals with it logically. She can respect that kind of mental fortitude.]
no subject
For now she gives the benefit of the doubt.]
I thought as such. And is Harry the other who is aware of these circumstances?
no subject
[There was a lot of red tape when it came to revealing information about the spirits and Genessia. It's frustrating to Raye, since she feels everyone should know these things. But if the spirits tell her she can only answer questions, that's all she can do. It's up to Satsuki if she feels like telling anyone else what she learns. Raye glances away.]
And I haven't seen Harry in a while. As far as I know, he's still here. I just don't know where.
[The jerk won't even answer her calls!]
no subject
.. Of all the time that you have been here? [She snorts] I must admit I am disappointed; but I can only blame myself for expecting much from 'them'. Very well.
[She gestures to the woman.]
I have just a couple more questions, if you wouldn't mind. Have you even noticed anything unusual when you read for a particularly lengthy amount of time?
no subject
[Stupid rampaging monster. Stupid painkillers. Even so, she kind of thought she'd get bumrushed with questions. It isn't the case. Raye shakes her head.]
I don't mind, go ahead.
[About the...reading? She didn't hear about this, but it's not like the spirits tell her EVERYTHING.]
No, can't say I'm much of a reader, but I think I know what it is. A lot of the text we see is shaped in a way that we can recognize, even though most of us speak different languages. So if you picked up a French book, your mind would perceive it in the language you speak.
[Just like Raye is speaking Japanese now. She has no idea if Satsuki speaks Japanese as well. ...But Raye's getting ahead of herself, because language translation isn't what Satsuki experienced.]
no subject
She didn't speak with many people, though she did just assume Laharl is a japanese demon. Long story short the question of language translation didn't really come to mind and that hits her as well.]
I... See.. That does make sense; so then this must also work with spoken languages. Interesting..
[But that aside, Satsuki frowns. She would argue she believe Rei is 'making excuses for others laziness' but that wasn't important right now.]
And what is your part in all of this? Seeing as you can communicate with spirits, it'd make sense that you would be granted a special task.
no subject
[It's so hard to explain, and there's such a fine line to walk. But at least she knows now why they're hesitant to just drop the truth on everyone at once.]
I guess I'm a sort of mediator?
[She's not happy about it, but it's a duty.]
Anything else? I need to get back to hanging all of these up.
no subject
That and she may be overstaying her welcome- It wouldn't be good to annoy her best source.]
I see. That will be all; I appreciate your time and patience. [She proceeds to turn to the side, but then looks back.] Until next time, then.
no subject
It's no trouble. See you next time, Satsuki.
[She hoists herself up the ladder with another lantern, but pauses to watch the black-haired woman depart. She seems like she really wants to know what's going on with this world. The spirits are bound to take notice, she knows.]
Man, she is way too intense.
[And yet...also very cool.]
