[It's pretty late right now, things should be.... fairly calm, right? Everything is totally relaxed, everyone is getting ready for a nice weeknight in, very calm, very quiet, looks like it might be just about time to turn in. Hit the hay. Relax. Have that nightcap and crack open a good boo-]

Oh goodness, I'm so sorry, I had no idea it would do that.

[At least that's not painful. The voice on the other side is soft and friendly, and genuinely does sound deeply apologetic, before the screen flickers on at long last. Looks like he doesn't entirely know what he's doing with this shit]

I hope I didn't disturb any of you! It looks like it's pretty late out, I'd hate to think I woke anyone up!

[He was at home, which was now the tree house, idly enjoying the quiet night in the forest and looking at his device before going to bed when it seemed to start screeching. He, being who he was, covered his ears instead of turning it off. Eventually he would have figured out to turn it off, but it fortunately stopped before that was necessary.

It looked like another magic user, probably, and someone who likely wasn't familiar with technology. He calmed down pretty quickly and tried to gather up the courage to say hi. At least he had something to work off of.]

H-Hi... I... I can teach you how to u-use it, if you want.

[He hoped he didn't mess up.]

[Bracken was dressed in a pretty familiar sense for Xellos. At least the first person he's meeting here isn't a total weirdo, amirite.]

Can you? I'd appreciate that, really! I'd hate to break it just right out of the box, it seems like such an interesting little thing.

[He nodded slightly enthusiastically, happy to help.

How good he could explain was another matter.]

W-Well... there's a v-video button here...

W-Wait, you're using that already...

U-Umm... There's... Oh, there's this p-private function...

[He stumbled, mumbling through the buttons and their functions as he stared at the screen, doing his best to try and describe. It was probably only slightly useful at most.]

[Doesn't matter, he sits through and listens as if it was a master teaching it. When Bracken is done, he even gets a polite little golf clap]

I'll do my best to remember everything. You made it look so uncomplicated, I'm sure I won't forget it now.

[Having the confidence of a goldfish that wasn't sure of its own existence, being told that he'd been helpful made him feel quite good about himself. He smiled cheerfully, completely believing Xelloss, and trying his best to unnecessarily reassure the other man.]

I-It's not hard at all. I... I bet you'll be r-really good at it.

[Content and more relaxed, he leaned back a bit.]

D-Do you know about... about the cities, y-yet?

Well I did listen to that light projection back in the cave I woke up in, but I'm afraid that wasn't nearly enough information for me.

[That's right.

He wants to know more.

You did such a good job the first time around, lets hear more about this place]

R-Really?

[Oh boy, that was asking a lot of him. He only even vaguely knew about some of the cities that he didn't visit. He was living in a tree in the middle of the woods now, for heaven's sake.

But, that led him to try and stick to a familiar and more comfortable subject.]

W-Well... You look like y-you should come to F, Fayren. Are you a kind of m-mage?

Well, close! I'm a priest actually~. Different kind of magic than a mage or a sorcerer or a witch.

Is it nice in Fayren? Is that where you live?

O-Oh! Another priest?

[That actually got him excited.]

I... I think Ted usually l-likes priests. B-But he hasn't liked all the priests here... A-Are you a healer?

Fayren is really pretty, and p-peaceful, and not scary.

There are more here? Well isn't that nice!

I'm afraid I'm not a white magic priest however. I can't really do any real healing spells.

[On humans. That don't involve soul removal]

Well I hope Ted doesn't mind me at all.

Not scary at all? That sounds like just the place.

D-Do you do elemental spells? Or... Or time spells?

[Priests seemed so different based on the world they were from. Spellcaster was so much more familiar and comforting to him, though.]

Y-You seem really nice. I think he'll, he'll like you.

I-It's great! Th-There's a cheap inn you c-can stay at called the... the "Marsh Woodsman". I used to stay there u-until recently. It's small, b-but very nice.

I guess I'll just have to be on the lookout for that, I'd hate to be out in the cold for too long. It's getting to be a bit nippy over here. Small suits me just fine.

[He stopped to think about it, but realized he messed up. He hadn't said his name.]

S-Sorry! I'm Bracken.

Hello Bracken!

I'm Xellos! It's a pleasure to meet you, thank you for being so helpful, I wouldn't know very much about here if it wasn't for you.

[Ah, to bask in the kind-of-praise.]

I-I... I didn't do much...

[He quietly tried to brush it off, even if he was obviously enjoying it.]

Do... Do you think y-you can find your way safely? It's d-dark outside.

Can I?

[Yes. He can. But would he.]

I think I could use a guide. It is very dark out after all.

[It was late, and he was tired in the middle of the forest. There was a chill in the air, and honestly, he would rather curl up under some blankets and sleep. Since coming to Genessia, he'd probably learned to appreciate sleep more than anyone else.

But it was also dark and cold for Xelloss, and he was in a new and potentially scary place. He didn't want to leave him out there, wandering around in the dead of night. That wouldn't be very nice.

There was some hesitation, some lingering desire to cling to his bed, but he got up.]

I... I could try to help... I-It'll take a while to w-walk there, though.

It's okay, I don't mind waiting.

[Was this necessary? If you were a hungry monster, yes. Yes it was. He'd not had a decent meal in.... oh hours. A good soldier marched on his stomach after all.

A nice fearful hunk of misery served freezing cold and obligated to help was a great dinner]

I won't be easy to miss.

O-Okay.

[It wasn't the best situation for him, but he could handle it. He climbed out of his house and started making his way down the ramps to the forest floor, starting the long walk. It was cold, but he was a spellcaster who liked fired spells. Rather than bother with any torches, he summoned a ball of flame in his hand to light the way and stave off the cold.]

D-DO you think you could find the... the gate to Fayren?

Oh? Well I might.

[Of course he can]

Don't wander off without me! I'll try and get there as soon as possible.

[AKA: Let Bracken marinate in the cold air for a solid half hour so that he's appropriately uncomfortable.

Sorry, nothing personal Bracken]

O-Okay! I'll meet you th-there, then. It'll be faster.

[If they were both walking towards each other...

He wasn't the fastest guy but he was steady, and perhaps thirty to forty minutes later he showed up at the gates. He still had his ball of flame - enough to keep things warm at least - but he was pretty tired. His sleep resistance was pretty low. He quietly waited without complaint, never thinking at all that Xelloss would be doing anything on purpose.]

[And right on the half hour mark, here comes Xellos. He's a scrawny guy, tall but in no way stocky like Bracken. Doesn't really look like much, but he does look like he's not at all tired]

I'm sorry if I made you wait at all.

[No, no explanation]

Shall we get going? I'm sure you want to be out of the cold as soon as possible.

I-It's okay.

[He answered with a smile, and it was genuine. He assumed that Xelloss just had a hard time finding his way around the new place. He would never hold something like that against him, even if he was tired.

He gestured behind him.]

I-It's just this way. It shouldn't take... take too long.

[Back to his meandering pace, he turned to head the other way. At least he knew his way through Fayren pretty darn well.]

A-Are you cold? I, I could make a bigger fire.

Oh good~

[And away they went, heading back into the depths of Fayren and towards the inn. To be honest, Xellos didn't need to rest, or need a bed, or even a warm place to sleep. Right now he was just focused on eating, and siphoning poor Bracken's physical discomfort was helping with that.

He had a few things to mull over when he was alone too.]

Oh? Well I would appreciate that.

[Because expended magic meant expended energy, which meant tired guide, which meant more discomfort, which meant more food]

[Though he was easily manipulated, it would actually be one of the thing Xelloss got wrong. He needed little but to have some thought on his spells. A little tricky for a tired mage, but it didn't make him more tired, which was quite different from many other mages. Expanding his fire to a larger size didn't bother him at all, though he took care not to catch things on fire.

He wasn't the most talkative, usually happy to be quiet, but even as a tired guide he did try his best to be accommodating.]

A-Are you hungry? There might be s-someplace open.
