I. A King's Legacy [video | action] Genessia City

[A quiet gasp escapes Regis once the phone suddenly turns on after a moment or two of fiddling around with it. He makes an odd figure upon the camera, especially since he's accidentally holding the phone upside down. It takes a moment for the regal gentleman to realize his mistake but once he does, he turns it right up again.

The King of Lucis wears no gold. There's hints of silver in his hair in the form of a horn-like crown, silver upon his clothing and hints of silver mixed within those bright sea green eyes. However, he wears no gold. He fits the appearance of a 'lord' of some kind either way by just his demeanor alone. Certainly not your average looking old codger at least. Though, he certainly looks particularly vexed as he stares into this phone.

Regis doesn't know what to make of this strange phenomenon and it shows in his glare.]

Tell me, is it customary for holograms to greet newcomers?

[There's a dry laugh that follows. The sarcasm is heavy.]

Heh, it is here. Welcome to Genessia! I'm Ted.

[Hi regal-looking old guy, here's a flamboyant-looking young guy.]

[This "Ted" wins a slight look from the king if only because of his casual greeting if nothing else. He won't mention the odd array of colors the other dons. The Lucian royal family always possessed a fondness for black and grays. Regis is no different in that aspect but there's hints of purple upon the tunic-length vest he wears.]

...Greetings, Ted.

[He inclines his head somewhat in respect.]

[Ted would be oddly struck to see royalty not dress themselves gaily. What was all that money for if not looking extravagant? Out of mannerly mimicry, he returns the slight bow.]

So! What's your name? [Fair's fair.]

[Lucians are known for their modesty but these garbs are twice as expensive than they should be. Black is simply their color of choice since it represents their flag, and their creed to their Gods. Although, Regis certainly seems to be dressed rather conservatively for a king.]

A name for a name, hm? [The corners of his lips quirk somewhat in amusement.] My name is quite a lofty one in comparison, Ted.

[Royal names often are, especially those with Latin roots.]

I am Regis Lucis Caelum the One-Hundred and Thirteenth, King of Lucis--[The king pauses for a bit. There's something else he almost added but thought against it. He won't mention the Crystal here. No one needs to know of it or his ties to it.]

Alas, I suppose I'm King no more if I've been whisked away upon the hour of my death.

[ Weiss certainly knows how to spot nobility. Even if the princes and princesses of her world are mostly only in storybooks now, you don't grow up a member of the highest social class without being able to tell who else belonged to it.

She would do a full curtsy if she was in person, but she bows her head politely over the video. It's more reasonable to do. ]

It may be unreasonable to keep staff inside the Bay 24/7, but the welcome center itself is a short walk from the exit, sir.

{ There's a remarkable lack of background noise from Zeref's feed, just a tiny hint of static. Wherever he is, it's very quiet. Zeref takes a moment to look over Regis; coming from his world, he knows royalty, or at least nobility when he sees it, even if his own lineage is a topic he has avoided thus far. }

Wherever you were before, you are there no longer. And before you ask, none of us have managed to find out who, or what, has brought any of us here, or why.

[This man looks like... he needs some cheering up.]

It is impersonal, but easier than having someone stand in the winter ocean air, ja?

Welcome to Genessia, mein herr. Before we go further, where are you? It is too cold for anyone to be out in the city right now.

[He snort a laugh]

"Oh that's all right; you wouldn't have the first parents to get carried away. A moment."

[He's looking up what each of those mean]
"Ruler, light, and heaven. Why do I get the impression you were one of the good kings? Hold on...the 113th!? Goodness! The highest an Earthen bloodline has ever gotten for my own is the sixteenth, I think. To go unbroken for so long is quite the accomplishment.

Ah, yes, the first indignity Genessia does is deracinate. But once time heals that wound it's very...

Hold on, death? Meaning no offense, but you weren't about to be bloodied by revolution, were you? Or invasion? I hope not illness; if so we've got to get you to a doctor right away!"

[An audio message, hm? Regis listens intently despite the fact that the background noise on his end is a tad loud. He literally made his way to the heart of Genessia city after waking within that peculiar cave. He was fortunate enough to wake during low tide or else that would've been a rather dreadful experience.]

Quite a vexing mystery, is it not?

[The King of Lucis could tell that the speaker is a tad young. Perhaps no older than his own son.]

How long has this situation continued?

[While the king's discontent is telling, his anger is muted and his sorrow hidden by a haunted gaze. This man knows of tragedy well and the dull ache of Glauca's sword still pains him even here. That is why he's so quiet with silent despair.

Regis is in mourning.]

Cold? [He glances about hesitantly as if to confirm it. Regis was honestly numb to it all as he ventured here but the biting wind finally woke him out of his morbid thoughts. His hands ache now from this bitter chill along with the rest of him.] Ah, indeed...it is.

[He offers the helpful gentleman a tired smile before glancing about for any indication where he is. It seems the nobleman is in a park of some kind but where? Regis takes a brief moment to spot the cross streets. His eyesight isn't as good as it used to be.]

Between Thistle and Sycamore upon the edge of the park. I wandered quite a bit from the bay.

[Is this ridiculous man actually researching his name? Congratulations, Ted. You're the first to win a smile. A lopsided smile that's just a mere quirk of his lips but a smile nonetheless.]

The Kings Of Lucis have gone undaunted by time and history both for as long I can remember. We owed our successes to our unyielding loyalty to the Gods and their message of peace. [That and the fact they owe their strength to the Crystal, but Regis isn't going to speak of it.]

Ah, you're quite astute. [His smile fades.] Twas treachery that took me, that aligned with betrayal. A peace signing that led to end my days.

Well...I'm not sure if it's customary, but...I thought it was helpful when I first arrived...

{ He's actually older than that. Much, much older. Of course, the story behind that is rather complicated, and is one Zeref does not enjoy discussing, for very personal reasons. }

I, myself, have been here for well over one year. I've looked into the source of our summoning, to no avail. There appears to be no hint as to whom is summoned or why, though given the sheer number of different worlds and individuals brought here, it is unclear if we are deliberately chosen, or if it is completely random.

[Those exhausted green eyes widen with some surprise once he sees the girl clad in white. He stares at her with obvious recognition since just a moment ago, he spoke with her hologram. Unlike most of the others who ignored her helpful afterimage, Regis stood and listened to the girl's words.]

Miss Weiss Schnee I presume? [His earlier frigidness transform into warmth. While he doesn't don a smile, Regis doesn't seem as frigid as he once was. He's warm and inviting.] I thank you for the information and your constant diligence upon such a queer happening, Miss Schnee.

Fear not, I'm no overlord seeking domination.

[His words are playful with no hint of malice to be found.]

[Regis cannot help but gasp once he sees the glittering beast upon the screen. His peridot gaze widens ever so slightly with awe and his lips quirk upward. For second there, Regis doesn't know what to say to this gentle creature. He never conversed with dragons before.]

That it was. I do not dispute it but I prefer speaking with actual individuals above all things else.

[It's a preference and doesn't have anything to do with his dislike for such aspects of technology. Not at all.]

It felt as if I was speaking with her ghost. Quite eerie to some extent.

Oh, um...I see...

[And the little dragon continues her usual jittery demeanor.]

Well...the person in the hologram is Weiss Schnee. I believe she is the Guardian of...Nova City. You can reach her through this same device that you and I are speaking through right now.

[This king is none the wiser. Though, he would've liked to have remained a young man than the aged codger he is today. The light of the Crystal stole his youth much like it did his father.]

A year?

[He gawks at the possibility of staying here for that long. Then again, he certainly has all the time in the world at this point. It's not as if Lucis is in need of him after leading his kingdom to disaster.]

Surely there's something that is known about this phenomenon if you and others spent such a lengthy time here.

[Aren't dragons suppose be fearsome beasts with great big fangs and lots of fire? This adorable creature before him seems nothing like her terrifying brethren. In fact, the golden beast seems oddly gentle. Regis cannot help but smile. This dragon is so oddly polite.]

I know of Miss Schnee. In truth, she contacted me a moment ago. She's a lovely young woman shouldering great responsibility.

I will find you as quickly as I can. Please do not wander. I promise, I am very fast.

[More so without his armor. Warm coat, hat and boots sure, but those don't really measure up to the power armor.

But he was serious, in about fifteen minutes, here came Reinhardt, with a spare coat as well, should Regis be in need of it.]

[A quiet chuckle ebbs off his lips but he doesn't comment as of why. Instead, Regis simply nods as he glances up at the sky momentarily. It's starting to snow again, it seems.]

This is the first time I've seen snow in a long time. [He acknowledges aloud with the faintest of smiles.] Lucis was never one for snow. The closest thing to winter I've ever tasted was the frost within the wind. Nothing more.

[He peeks back at the elderly chap upon the screen.]

I shan't wander. You have my word.

[It is very, very hard to miss Reinhardt as he approaches. One might expect the ground to shake with each step, honestly.

But, here he is, spare coat draped over an arm, snow starting to collect in his beard and hair as he smiles and extends the cost to the other man ]

Only that the vast majority of locals have welcomed us. Many offworlders have dedicated themselves to helping them, even holding elections to appoint 'guardians' of the various cities.

As to the nature of the world itself, nigh-impenetrable barriers surround each city. On the few occasions where the barriers fade... both spirits and monsters have flooded in.

Guardians? [Regis quirks his brows upward at that.] Then there's a good rapport between the citizens of this realm and the newcomers?

[That's a surprising bit of news that he should've guessed. The hologram he spoke with earlier made it a point to state she wasn't a native of this world despite being a fellow Guardian.]

Is that so? How...eerily familiar.

[Excuse him for a moment. This is all giving him a really bad case of deja vu.]

[Correction, it's physically impossible to miss this giant of a man. Honestly, Reinhardt must be half-daemon to be this unrealistically tall. He's a giant of a man in comparison to Regis' meager six feet. The King of Lucis is considered to be rather tall and stately within his realm but he's woefully short before Reinhardt who towers over him with such impressive height.

The king gawks at Reinhardt from behind the crystal-like barrier he forged from his magic. Fifteen minutes within the blistering cold is enough for a man to catch hypothermia, so Regis thought to create a paling around himself to provide at least some warmth as he waits. There's snow collected upon the top of this dome-like shield, just a light dusting at best. Reinhardt kept to his promise and arrived fairly quickly with a warm winter coat for him in tow.

As the odd white glow fades within Regis' hands begins to fade, the magical shield around him starts to shatter into a dozen or so shards. The glass shards never hit the ground but instead rain down like gentle raindrops all around him.]

No, I should be the one bestowing gratitude onto you, noble sir.

[He takes the coat with a gracious bow despite his bad knee.]

After experiencing the worst men do unto each other in times of strife, it...it brings me some joy to meet someone who is eager to assist me. I'm humbled.

[There's really not many people who can match that height and still remain human, honestly. And that was all he was. An old human too.

He'd sussed out, from the state and make of the other mans attire, and the way he carried himself, that he must be important. What rank or title he carried was unknown, but it wouldn't have mattered. Respect was respect. The magic, or technology? It was so hard to tell... was fascinating in and of itself, and he watched as the shield shatters and the glow fades, clearly impressed.]

Unhappy people make unhappy choices.

Come, I will fix what I can of that.

[Cure unhappiness as best he can!]

I do not live in a grand home, but it is comfortable.
