"Oh, ya think? You ever seen a bunch of peasants bow their heads and back up, when a carriage went by? Trust me, luxury means power means fear!" Betelgeuse argued.

He shook his head, stuffing his hands in his pockets.

"No way, lady. Only the first one is free. You want something bigger? You find it and I'll steal it for you...for a price."

[Faetan narrows her eyes and takes a step back, measuring the ghost shrewdly.]

No deal.

[She folds her arms.]

I made a request, and a fairly simple one. You ignored it, and expect me to hold up my end of the bargain even though I wasn't provided with what I wanted. If I'm going to work with someone, they need to follow what I say to the letter, not second guess my orders. Damn if I don't love a little chaos, but you're a random variable, and I can't afford that in a partnership.

"Nah, babes, I didn't ignore ya. You asked for a ship; I brought you one. You asked for scary and I made it scary. It's not my fault you weren't very specific. You never said anything about needing it to hold Marauders," Betelgeuse corrected her. He frowned then, his expression becoming firm and stern. "As for following orders to the letter, HA! If you think I'm gonna be some meek, little boot licker, you're out of your pretty little mind. I'll work with you, not for you. The whole point of this exercise was to show off my talents and I think I did that just fine."

What, you're going to deliberately find loopholes in every request I make, and then say it's my fault?

[She spits on the ground.]

To hell with that! I'm not a moron, that's a car, not a ship! Were you expecting some primitive screwhead to think they're the same?!

[Now she's downright pissed.]

"That's the plan," Betelgeuse said, shrugging. "Hell, babes, I know that, but ya asked for something that flies! Ship, car, whatever, this is what people have around here! They serve pretty much the same purpose and I can use my juice to tweak things for you. Truth is, though, babes, we come here with pretty much nothing. You might just have to settle, because THERE ARE NO SHIPS HERE. SO, you find a ship in this dump and I'll steal it for you."

I asked for a ship! Don't be an idiot, I know you're smarter than that.

[He dares raise his voice to her? Faetan's eyes narrow.]

Forget it. To hell with you, you're worthless to me!

[Just like every other insufferable being in this doubly insufferable realm! She stalks off, shoulders rounded and fists clenched. She'll steal her own damn ship, at least then she'll get what she actually wants.]

"Of course I'm smart, but I can't steal what no one has!" Betelgeuse huffed, exasperated. "Lady, I ain't the worthless one around here! Go on, then. If you don't recognize talent, THAT'S YOUR PROBLEM. YOU WON'T FIND BETTER HERE OR ANYWHERE ELSE," he called after her, annoyed.

Betelgeuse glared, offended at being so wrongly dismissed, but the feeling passed rather quickly. He was used to be under-valued. The high muckity-mucks of the afterlife did it constantly, after all. Ah, well. On the other hand, she'd left the car behind! Betelgeuse grinned, removing his magic from it and restoring it to it's original state of luxury.
