[This was not an Air Force issued bed.

Not cool. Not cool at all. Waking up in some creepy pod was not his idea of a good night. He reached up to his neck and pinched himself, verifying with that jolt of pain that YEP this was real. He glanced down to his side, noticing the sleeping corgi beside him and squinted- seriously? They shoved poor Quatre into this tiny pod with him?

He made sure to check that his little pooch was alright before checking himself; the bracer he got from Alyosha was still under his sleeve, and the hilt of his beam sword was still attached to the belt under his uniform jacket. He still had his visor too, which meant nothing was taken... but he gained something instead. Might as well see what's in that tiny box...

Caeli is gonna kill him.]

[Video / Action at the Bay]

[The feed starts up with the view of a dog's nose sniffing at the camera lens. There's some muttering in another language - one that might be identified as French - before the excited corgi is pulled away from the camera and there's instead a black-haired man with blue and white ear feathers clad in a dark blue uniform looking a little perplexed at the feed.]

Aight, is this thing on? It can't be that hard to work this thing.

I'll skip the whole "where am I" slash "take me to your leader" crap 'cuz I'm sure you've allll heard that one to death already. I'd also say it's a criminal offense to kidnap a member of the military, but I imagine that doesn't mean jack here either.

If nothing else, I appreciate that they waited to kidnap me until after Valentine's so I didn't stand up my date. She would've had my head on a silver platter if that happened.

[ ... Oh. He's going off on a tangent. Whoops.]

... anyway, the name's Mobius. And this- [He points the phone down to the corgi on the ground next to him, which was chasing his tiny tail] -is Quatre. And as it turns out, I'm not allowed to stay at the provided lougings because the bastards don't allow dogs. And I'm not leaving him outside.

I guess what I'm getting at is assuming no one's secretly a serial killer, we could use a couch to crash on long enough for me to get settled in this place. If no one would mind, that is. I dunno how hard it is to get work in this place.

[He pauses, then coughs.]

I'm not always this grumpy, I promise. My last name isn't Oculus.

[Haaaah, digs at his best friend.]

[He wasn't a harpy, she remembered that much...what was it called again...?]

[His feathers perked slightly. Hey, that's a word he recognizes! That's more than he expected today.

... but he is tilting his head at the image on his screen.]

Yeah, I'm one of them. Blue eagle type.

[He blinks.]

You some kinda... frilled lizard kinda thing?

[She blinks back.]

Are there different types of kashia?

You're a dragon? [Blink. blink.] You're a lot... uh. smaller than what I heard stories about.

[Because clearly Mobius is an expert on an extinct beast.]

Oh yeah, a whole buncha kinds. Eagles, gryphons, condors, etcetera. Whatever kinda bird you think of, there's probably a kashia of it.

... which is kinda weird, now that I think about it.

We dragons come in all shapes and sizes, at least in Sornieth.

That is interesting. Did you know someone named...Caelestis?

Oh. That makes sense.

[Or he'll pretend it does anyway.]

That guy? Yeah, I know hi-

[He stops himself as the realization sinks in. She said Caelestis. His expression drops into one that almost borderlined horror.]

Oh no.

Captain Tightpants is here?

Of course he would be, he lives to make my life terrible.

Captain Tightpants? Is that his name? Why would he make your life terrible?

[Now she's all sorts of confused.]

He helped me when I first arrived here. I haven't really seen him since, though...

[As much as he wants to act like that is Caeli's name, he probably shouldn't. Just in case he's still here. He doesn't want to be strung up in a tree. Or worse. It is Caelestis.]

Okay, it's not, but it should be. That guy needs to learn how to loosen up once in a while. I swear, his sister got all of the happy genes.

He helped you? Hey, I guess he does have a heart once in a while. [He is so digging his own grave.] Well, if he's still here, then I'll have him barking orders at me soon enough. And then I might crawl back in that pod.

Barking orders? So he's your leader?

[Kind of like Qubine, maybe? Stern and intimidating, but ultimately not bad?]

I'm sure he means well...right?

Not so much leader, that would be Aquila. [Who is so much nicer.] He is my superior though, being a Major and all. Which is annoying. How does someone younger than me outrank me?

[He has very strong emotions about this. Caeli's a Major! He's a First Lieutenant! What gives!]

That's what his absolute sweetheart of a sister says, but most days I don't buy it. The Brigadier General is the only one that can out-miserable him.

He'll suck the fun out of anything. He's like a fun vacuum.

Really? Is your world dangerous?

Our clan leader, Qubine...he's a serious one, too...but it's because he has to be. Our world is dangerous, and we can't afford to play around when it comes to survival.

I think that's an unfortunate fact of every world. Not sure I'd buy that there's one out there that isn't dangerous. [Even the tales of realms after death don't sound as peaceful like some want to believe.] But we've got a pretty big mess going on at home. I'm not at liberty to give away those details.

[Classified information is still classified information, even if there's really the chance that no one here would understand it.]

... yeah, I guess Caeli gets like that when we're out on a proper sortie. But it's not gonna kill them to relax once in a while.

Well...this world is, um...fairly safe. There are still things that happen from time to time, though...

[And look, yet another familiar story.]

We've got...a big mess in my world, too.

"Fairly" safe? Whaaat kind of things are we talking that happen here? I already read about a horror sideshow city.

[Which he's not gonna go to if he can avoid it, thanks.]

Must be a hell of a mess if even dragons are concerned about it. Sorry to hear that.

Well...just recently in Nova City, there was an incident where people became doubles...one with all their good traits, and one with all their bad traits. They say it was caused by something in the water...

[She doesn't quite understand it, but she's glad she wasn't affected by that...]

Indeed...since it's caused by a dragon...and perhaps something more.

The water. It's always the water, isn't it? Man, Nova City sounds like science fiction cliché central.

[And yet he'll probably spend most of his time there because he's a huge nerd.]

I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume this place is still safer by comparison. I just have to hope that getting kidnapped like this won't cause issue at home. I don't want to get court-martialed because I got accused of deserting.

[Sounds like there's a lot of science there...not that she knows much about that.]

I think so...at least here, no one is after me...and no one is trying to engulf the whole world in darkness...

I was told that time is frozen in our own worlds while we're here, but I can't say if it's true or not...

From what the girl in the hologram was saying, it sounds like the latter has been done several times. Dunno if we should be concerned here if she can be so nonchalant about it.

[Sounds like that girl's gone through a good number of headaches in her time.]

Wait, seriously? Time might be frozen? [He leans his head back and lets out the biggest sigh of relief.] Thank whatever-deity-is-out-there. I get to keep my head on my shoulders another day.

Except I have even more questions now, but details.

They don't permit pets? That's unfortunate. [ But not what has caught his attention. ] What military are you a member of? I don't think whoever has brought us here is concerned about kidnapping charges in our worlds.

It's annoying. Sure is nice of 'em to kidnap people with pets and then not letting 'em stay. [He's very cross about this. And he assumes hotels won't allow pets either so yay.]

Royal Hazaethian Air Force, part of the Special Aerial Unit Archon. In simple terms, one of Hazaeth's two top fighter squadrons. And I imagine not, otherwise they wouldn't be so stupid to actually kidnap us. They should be concerned about face stabbings when I get ahold of them though.

Yes, that's inconsiderate of them. You would think this would be taken into consideration, but the greatest installations often come with puzzling flaws in the details.

You're going to need a weapon before you can stab anyone in the face... and track down the people responsible. But I'm sure you realize that. I'm afraid I can't help you with accommodations, I've only just gotten here myself. It is good to meet another soldier, even if he is a flyboy.

It is a pretty massive oversight. Unless they knew exactly what they were doing and just wanted to mess with the ones that get their pets with them. In which case, I've got a rude gesture for their general direction.

[He does manage to get a smirk to his face. Probably helps to learn that he's not the only military captive here.]

I've got the weapon thing covered, don't you worry about that. [The tracking thing kinda goes without saying though.] That aside, I'm guessing you're the kind of guy that prefers to keep his feet on the ground?

I wouldn't complain too much in your place... as far as prisons inconveniencing you goes, it could be worse. But it's creative, and needlessly elaborate, I'll give you that.

[It is nice to talk to someone with a similar mindset, even if Cassian's never heard of the specific military he's part of. Now if only he would stop suspecting this entire place is an Imperial hoax.]

I can fly to get myself from one place to the other and a little more, but I wouldn't consider myself a fighter pilot.

Fair enough. Can't say I've had much experience with prisons, but I get the feeling this is probably one of the nicer options.

[Mobius wants to believe it's a hoax too, probably set up by the Oculus twins, but playing along sounds like the safest option right now. You know. Incase it's not.]

I'd ask what you've flown, but if this whole "different worlds" thing is true, we won't know what the other is talking about. [That's a safe bet, right?] ... dunno why, but it's weirdly comforting to know I'm not the only soldier stuck here. Pardon my saying.

I have flown space ships, to use a broader term. I don't expect the models would mean anything to you, no. From what I understand space flight is not normal for everyone. People here are from planets with various levels of technology.

[That makes two of them playing along. If you fight back too much, this strangely comfortable prison might take an unpleasant turn. Better safe than sorry.]

I agree. It's pleasant to be talking to a fellow soldier. I don't believe I introduced myself yet, did I? Captain Cassian Andor, of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. [Probably gonna go over better with a royal soldier than anything rebel.]

Yikes, space travel? [He'll look a little amazed.] Yeah, we haven't gotten that far where I'm from. We've got jet aircraft that can transform into robots, but nothing that can pierce the atmosphere yet. That's awesome.

[He's only seen space travel and stuff in movies, so meeting someone who could technically be called a space pilot is pretty cool... cool enough that Mobius probably has to stop himself from fanboying a little.]

[Because Mobius sure prefers not being referred to as 'First Lieutenant,' so he knows not every officer is a stickler for ranks.]

[ And Cassian, in turn, is blinking at well. ]

We... Our Starfighters don't transform into robots. They are just jets. We have droids, of course, but... no transformations. Things typically remain what they are in my home.

[ That is a little bit mind-boggling, even for him. He can't help wondering what K-2SO would transform into, if he could, and just... No. Not even going there. ]

And I actually prefer Captain, yes.

[ It's one of the few familiar things he has left, what with not even having his complete uniform. ]

[He scratches the side of his head, his feathers twitching slightly.]

Wow, that's real weird to think about. I, uh, guess there might really be something to that whole "multiple worlds" thing that's being implied. That is... alllll kinds of weird to think about.

[He gives a nod.]

[Usually he pokes fun at people who insist on use of their ranks, but... well... in unfamiliar territory, he should probably concentrate on making potential friends than giving them headaches day one.]

Work isn't very hard at all, actually! You could probably get any job you liked provided proficiency. At least, I've never heard any strictness over licensing.

As for tenancy...well, your own funds should provide for at least a month in a place that loves pets better. If you've been set upon by robbers--and my condolences if so--the Amagi Inn will do for a while.

You talk like getting a job is a cakewalk here. That sounds a little too good to be true.

[He's definitely a little skeptical, but if it really is that easy, it would at least give him more time to think about more important things.]

True, but folks at home tend to make a bigger deal about it when military or some fancy pants official is involved. Like we're more important than the civilians or something.

Thanks. If I'm lucky, he might melt hearts enough to land us a short-term roof over our heads. Or maybe he can be the source of income.

Isn't it because they are the people who well... protect the country so to speak? I mean we all should be protected from the bad things in the world, but when someone like that gets kidnapped... I admit it would be something to panic about in a way. Like if they could get someone like that, then it would be much easier for them to get me.

Well it shouldn't be too hard, my inn has a new arrivals stay free for a couple weeks policy. I should really put a sign out about that.

Yeah I get that, but it just kinda feels off that it seems like we're treated like we're more important. I don't feel like I'm better than everyone else just because I can pilot a flying robot. A crime's a crime, no matter who it's against, y'know?

That makes sense, although probably not everyone would be able to fly a robot. I know I wouldn't be able to to. But I understand a crime is the same no matter who it is against.

That's gonna make me wonder how the law enforcement's gonna be here... guess I'll have to do some reading on those Guardians that Schnee mentioned. Seems to be plenty of reading material at the hologram. Never did like studying much.

Since the Guardians change every so often, there won't be a lot or anything about the current ones without asking them themselves. But on what a Guardian does and such there are a few things you can find.

I wouldn't call it charity, I call it an understanding of when I first arrived. Had to find a place like literally when you got here. You didn't have that adapting period. These days it is a little bit better though.
