I have an...odd question, at least some people might find it odd, but what kind of games do people enjoy?

I'm planning on creating a game for people to play and would like to have a basic idea of what most people would be interested in, instead of assuming and getting it wrong.

I should add video games in this case don't really count, so...I would not be able to make something like that.

Alright, we'll start with explaining the very basics. [He had out his own deck as he picked up the first dark, which just so happened to be Dark Magician.]

This is a monster card, you use these cards to either attack an opponents monster if you have more attack points, to defend you if not or to attack a player directly if they have no monsters.

[As he takes a closer look at the monster card Yugi showed him, he is somehow impressed at the monster's design, which happened to be a magician wearing purple and holding a cool purple staff.]

Okay. Can it do anything else than attacking or defending?

It depends, you have other types of monsters that can only be summoned a certain way. Some of which can come with various abilities. For example I have a monster that if sent to the graveyard will deduct 500 attack points from all opponents monsters.

You also then have monsters that you need a ritual card in order to summon. Those are ritual monsters. But for the most part monsters are there for attack or defense.

[Well, math isn't his thing, but he managed to understand Yugi's explanation about the monster cards.]

Okay, so what about the other cards then?

[Yugi starts to pull them out placing them in a line in front of the other on the table.]

The green cards are called Spell Cards, the purple are Trap cards. Traps are... well the name makes it's obvious, they can be used to trap a monsters or basically stop an attack and such. They are mostly used at various points in either your turn or even your opponents.

Spell cards mostly are used on your turn unless it's a certain types.

[So far, there are no signs of complicated talk. That's a good sign for him.]

What about Trap Cards? You can't use it in your turn because they're traps?

There are potentially traps you can use on your turn depending on what the actual trap is. But usually they are meant to be used on your opponent, so they are mostly used oh their turn.

Okay. So if they try to attack me or something, I'll just activate a Trap Card just to stop them, right?

Depending on what the trap card is yes. You don't need to activate one you have face down if it doesn't benefit you during that moment.

I see. Is that all of the cards I should know?

Well the game is always ever expanding, so who knows in the future. These are just the main ones. Though I guess I should talk a little about ritual cards... but they are spell cards, but have a different purpose.

Those cards are used with sacrifices in order to summon ritual monsters, which can be quite powerful.

Okay. What do these Ritual Monsters look like and do they also have effects as well?

They don't have effects, not normally anyway and looks wise, they vary much like monster cards themselves. Like the ritual card I have is Black Luster Solider and Magician of Black Chaos.

[He pulls them out and shows them.]

You can tell they are a ritual monster is by the colour of the card, in this case it's blue.

[As you can't tell already, he is staring at the cards in awe due to obvious reasons.]

Wow! They're must be really strong enough to beat down any monsters!

There are ways to have stronger monsters than these, fusion monsters or monsters one can summon by sacrificing your weaker ones.

One of the most powerful I know of is the Blue Eye's Ultimate Dragon. I cannot show you that card because one one exists and that belongs to a skilled duelist I know... They aren't in Genessia.

Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon?! Is it even strong than those Ritual Monster cards?

[Sure, he is disappointed to here it's not in Genessia anymore, but he can dream.]

It's attack points when fused is 4500, which yes would be able to beat my two ritual monsters by around 1500 attack points. Which I would lose from my life points.

Seriously?!

And what do you mean "fused"? Does that mean monsters can be fused as well?

They can. However only certain ones can fuse with certain others.

[and he knew it could take forever to even go through that list.]

I have a few myself, but I don't use them as much. [Mostly because he in a strange way has two decks of his own. One him and a friend had created together and one he made himself.]

Really? Can you show me some examples then?

I can show you one example.

[He moves to his deck and pulls out one fusion monsters, which seems to be called Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast.]

This card is a fusion of Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts and Berfomet.

[As always once he sees the artwork on the card, he stares at it in awe at the sight of a said beast.]

Awesome! Now that's what I call a cool-looking card!
