[ The device must be propped against something, possibly another book like the one lying open in front of the camera, though the angle is too sharp to see what the book may be. There are three more books stacked off to the right, and a fourth is added to the stack as Dorian leans into view, closing it and placing it atop the stack. ]

I find myself in need of aid.

[ He clears his throat before continuing. ]

First, I should thank everyone for their assistance when I first arrived. You were all most helpful. For those I've yet to meet, [ He inclines his head toward the camera in greeting. ] I am Dorian of House Pavus, and I find myself in need of assistance once again.

Nothing so dramatic as my arrival, of course. I was simply wondering if anyone may have a recommendation from whence to acquire a viable and quality mage's staff, preferably of an Inferno aspect, or, more likely and more conveniently, where to acquire components with which to assemble my own. I'm well and truly capable of casting without the use of a foci, but in a pinch, speed and finesse is preferable to only finesse.

Understand I can do slightly if I'm honest. But true without actually learning one cannot put two and two together, fully. But one can still attempt to imagine regardless.

If that is what you think, it might be true. it's just magic where I'm from.

I would first need to explain the nature of the Fade, the veil, and how they interact with the physical realm.

[ He nods, stoking his chin. ]

And you do this writing in combat? How cumbersome.

Your magic must have a lot more to it if it has a factor like that?

Of course within seconds. Does help I've done magic since I was younger at least.

[ Dorian tilts his head to the side curiously. ]

A lot more than what, exactly? Again, neither of us has any point of reference for the other.

[ He chuckles. ]

One is either born with the ability, or they are not where I come from. Magic isn't something I do. It's what I am, or...rather, at least something I am.

As I said mine simply write and done. That's it. For most mages it would be easy enough to learn and pull off. If magic needs a certain factor to it, makes it a lot harder for just anyone to manage.

Thus why I said a lot more. There's simple and then there is complicated magic based on what needs to be done.

[Considering Fai was able to learn another worlds magic that wasn't from where he was originally from, he figured that was a factor is some other worlds. Not all it seems though.]

Same where I come from, technically. However though certain spells I know mine can be taken away. But again my world. Unless it's a price for something then it that case doesn't matter if you were born with it or not.

[The last part was mostly muttering to himself.]

So you were born with magic or you are magic taken on form? [Because the way it was worded could make it seem like the latter.]

[ He nods.]

Fair enough, I suppose, but where does the power for your spells originate? Anyone can scroll a recipe on a scrap of paper, but what gives yours power?

The blue of my eyes.

[He didn't even pause about it, said outright.]

I can't explain how that works exactly, I just know where it comes from. Kind of sucks if you lose an eye, however.

Your magic comes from your eyes, but you have no idea how that works.

[ It's spoken as though to confirm he's heard properly. ]

I would suggest ceasing all use of your 'magic' until you understand how it does work. It's impossible to know what went wrong you have no inkling of what went right.

I must do to be able to control it. Then again I am serious when I say anyone could use my powers and control them scarily well.

Besides the way it works is also baffling in itself as one eye always increases in power while the other decreases. Which unlike most magic makes it a little different.

It must be cyclic, then, but it makes no sense. Surely the amount of magic contained within an eye must be finite?

Sometimes magic makes no logical sense. But in one that seems likely, it would be never ending in power, but I believe having both they end up balancing each other out. But I'm taking a major guess there.

On the contrary, magic always makes logical sense. Yours sound more like a curse than the essence of magic.

To those who never have magic in their world it's not logical to them. Yeah in worlds with magic, you would be correct.

[Fai just smiles slightly.]

Some might say that, but to me it's not a curse at all. I use it, I use it to protect those I care about, so if it really was a curse I wouldn't be able to.

[He just cannot learn healing spells is all.]

To those who rely on technological advancements rather than magic, which isn't unheard of mind you, it's still logical. Not understanding the function of a thing doesn't negate its logistics.

[He chuckles.]

Many people used cursed magic to help people. That doesn't make it any less cursed, or its cost any less high. Good intentions don't define origins.

But it does negate an understanding if one cannot understand.

[He shrugs slightly.]

I don't really have a cost unless I lose me left eye. Or it's a cost that isn't obvious to me.But most magic has a cost at the end of the day, just 'cursed' is more obvious than others. Like potion making you give stuff up in order to create a potion.

Right...I suppose I'd have to study you to fully understand.

[And he isn't...thoroughly opposed to that, though he'd only try it if Fai was willing.]

I'm a big old ball of mystery, you can try and study me if you want.

[He's not sure what one could learn, but hey he wasn't opposed to someone learning something.]

Studying living subjects seems a tad...cruel, don't you think? With a few exceptions, most civilized people tend to frown upon it.

Not if it's just watching. Sometimes someone can learn a lot by simply watching a person. A friend I know was very good at it.

[It was quite annoying if he had to be honest before all of this.]

To truly understand the nature of magic, one needs to do more than simply watch. Things need to be measured, touched.

[He shakes his head, breathing a sigh. Honestly. No one has an appreciation for proper research around here.]

How exactly does one touch magic though? Mostly because I really would be uncomfortable with anyone touching my eyes.

Also magic isn't physical until after a spell has been cast. At least in most magic I've learnt anyway.

Of course it isn't. Magic is the stuff of dreams, spawned of the Fade, the...realms of dreams?

[The last was spoken as though he was making sure Fai at least had that elementary an understanding.]

How does one breath the air, but a fish breath the water? We are born with the ability to do so. It is, in fact, as easy to me as breathing. I can't explain it. You hear. I hear. You taste. I taste. You reach for thoughts in your memory, as do I. Reaching through the Veil to touch the magic of the Fade is as easy and...automatic to me as recalling my dinner last Thursday.

[He paused for a moment before speaking again.]

So even in your case magic is something you just do, you don't think much about it, just do it.

That's a rather elementary way of looking at it. While yes, it comes naturally, and I need not think of it most of the time, to do anything near useful with it, yes, I think about it.

You know talking about magic, reminded me of something. I should really borrow some magic books from Fayren. Been wanting to learn more of their magic for a while.
