bounty log for Cad Bane & Cassian, "Cement Shoes", backdated pre-event

Cassian hadn't been overly concerned working with Cad Bane, right until Kay started worrying, and making him worry too that his bounty hunting partner was going to leave him to his fate at the worst possible moment. It's this paranoia getting to him that had Cassian hiding Stardust, Kay's tiny yellow Joltik, inside one of large pockets of his coat when he went to meet with Cad. Having an ace up his sleeve couldn't hurt, or would at least soothe his paranoia.

Three people had been drowned in Attleton Park's pond, their cement-encased feet dragging them down to a watery death.

"I still say that's a needlessly elaborate way of killing," Cassian said in greeting as he met with Cad Bane outside the town's bar.

Several of Attleton's most troublesome inhabitants were known to spend their evenings. Three men who had been conspicuously flush with cash the last couple of nights, and walking around town with a new swagger, though Attleton's very effective rumor mill didn't know what they were so proud of. The two of them had their suspicions, and tonight would hopefully prove them true.

"Why bother with cement when you can just put a blaster bolt to their heads and be done with it?"

"It sounds like they want to send a message," Bane reasoned.

It seemed to be a more symbolic way to kill and also perhaps wanting to cause more suffering than a quick shot to the head.

The bounty hunter wasn't concerned about Cassian either way. He wasn't going to go out of his way to protect him, nor was he going to turn against him - unless something happened to warrant either action. In a way, he was neutral ground. Right now, it was best to work together.

"It sounds like it," Cassian agreed grimly. "They should know better than to attract too much attention. It's bad for that kind of business." And he's building a house in this town. He had no interest in it turning into a battlefield.

His gaze went to the entrance of the bar before it returned to Cad. "I'd say we go in and take a look at them."

The Joltik scrabbled around in the pocket of his jacket, making a soft noise.

There was a slight shrug of the alien's shoulders in assent. The noise caught his attention, though, as they walked toward the entrance.

"You got something special on you?"

There's the smallest hitch to his steps, just enough for someone trained to notice, if he is paying attention. Either way, the game's up. Denying it is pointless, Stardust will need remedial lessons in stealth.

Cassian stifles a sigh, and gives a curt nod. "He's not very patient yet."

"He? Who or what have you brought with you? It better not be a distracting pet."

Bane sounded irritated. He didn't like any unnecessary complications.

Cassian couldn't even blame him for his annoyance, he would have been annoyed too if he'd been in his place. He pulled the yellow fuzz ball out of his pocket, the creature was small enough to fit on his palm, and chirped a cheerful Joltik! "He's small, usually a little more discreet and likes to shock people. He's a pet, of a sort, but not a distracting one."

He had also been given to Cassian as the ace up his sleeve if it turned out he couldn't trust Bane. Kay would be so annoyed.

"We're here for the job. If that creature can be of use with his shock, then good. Otherwise, keep it out of the way," Bane said grimly then continued onwards.
