Mewtwo's nightmare

"Any word on the latest test results?"

"His psychic prowess are off the charts."

"...And Amber? Has his influence stabilized her signature?"

"...Some, Doctor. But, at the moment, there's only so much we can do without waking him. And if he wakes..."

"...Then she dies. I'm well aware."

The laboratory that made up his dreams was buzzing with hushed whispers surrounding the two most prominent lab-coat clad scientists. They stood in front of a large test tube with a small Mewtwo encased within, suspended in some green-tinted fluid.

"Again." The single word, rang out from somewhere overhead where a man clad in a fine orange suit stood, half shrouded in darkness, looking down on the experiment from a catwalk.

"But sir! If we push him too hard, we'll lose the other test subjects!" retorted one scientist, only to be met with a hiss from the Persian at the suit-clad man's side.

"It will develop his psychic abilities and further augment his ability to keep your precious Amber in this place. Do I need to remind you who is funding this little project? And turn on the monitors. I want to see what's going on in that... thing's head."

As soon as he finishes speaking, the world fluxes and twists, the sterile white of the laboratory giving way to what seemed to be a fairly normal town. It was dusk, street lamps were beginning to turn on, and everything was given a soft orange glow to it. Overhead floated four figures; Mewtwo, a Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle along with a young human girl who looked to be no older than seven years old. They flew, playfully, smiles on each of their faces until out of the blue Mewtwo dropped to the ground like a rock, writhing in pain, mouth opening in silent screams as the others formed a circle around him. When he finally calmed down, the others began to look intangible, their forms shimmering in the twilight. The Charmander was the first to begin to fade in earnest.

"W-what's going on?" Mewtwo asked of the others.

"...We're dying..." said the girl, a sad smile on her face as all three pokemon vanished with the last rays of the light. "We have to go now... and we can't see each other again... I'm sorry, but, I'm glad I met you... got to teach you..."

As the moon replaced the sun in the sky, even the girl began to shimmer and fade, a multitude of other voices starting to leak in from outside the dream's dream. They were soft at first, all seemingly panicking that Amber's signature was fading, and that Mewtwo wasn't powerful enough to stabilize it. One by one the street lamps began to switch off as the girl began to dissolve into the moonlight, her mouth forming the word 'goodbye' but the sound being lost to the growing cacophony of the outside. Once she was fully gone, even the moon was blotted out, leaving nothing but Mewtwo in the center of the blackness.

"No, please don't leave me! Don't... I don't want to be alone!"
