1st Draw - A Whole New World~

Waking Up - The Bay

[Waking up had been a bit of a challenge after a several years of a moogle companion acting as your personal alarm clock. The bed was comfortable and compared to the ground she'd slept on in the past, it was a welcome change. The perky brunette curled up tightly, burrowing into the comfort for as long as she could. The battles to save Crystallis had been long, hard and exhausting. She'd gone to sleep on board the Enterprise, content on considering her next moves and dreaming of home.

But something wasn't right. She'd left Jaelyn on board the ship and the wake up call wasn't happening at all. It was with a sleepy whine that Selphie Tilmitt woke up with a start and stared at the completely different surroundings from where she'd fallen asleep. She felt the tight braid at the nape of her neck and the unfamiliar weight in her lap. It took several moments to rub the sleep from her eyes before she looked down and saw the small box in her lap. She opened it cautiously before smiling sadly at the white crystal contained within alongside some other objects. The SeeD quickly closed the box before leaving her bed and making her way out of the Bay she'd woken up in.]

If this is a joke guys, I'm not laughing!

The City Proper [Video]

[A few rounds of fiddling with her smartphone later, a 23 year-old Selphie comes into view. Her customary bangs are back in place but instead of her shorter hairstyle, she's adopted a long braid that's flopped over her left shoulder. She's a bit on the tired side and very wary of her new surroundings. Yet, there's a glimmer of cautious optimism about this situation. She tugs at the sleeves of her Red Mage attire before waving at the phone. She sees the little symbol that it's recording but other than that, smartphones are completely foreign to her.]

Helloooooooo? Is anyone out there?

Jade? Anise? Sonic? Anyone from Crystallis? Squall? Zell? ...Seifer?

Um... [She looks at the lens sheepishly before clearing her throat.]

Right. Looks like I'm on my own so, hello! Is this thing working? If you can hear me, or see me in this case, say something! Anything, really.

[Selphie smiles warmly at the camera before tapping the phone again until the feed cuts out.]

[Do you have something else in mind? Come at me!]

[By the time she's done with that short message, Namur's head is pounding. Conflicting memories vie for his attention, each one piercing like a needle at the space between his temples. He really ought to wait until he's got himself sorted, but he knows that uncertain tone in her voice, and he knows how terrible it is for her to wake up alone in a strange place. So before he really thinks it through, he opens up a video line.]

Hey babe! Wondered if I's ever gonna hear yer voice 'gain. Hope y' didn't go nowhere too shitty after makin' yer wish.

[He's trying to smile, but it's strained because really, this is a hell of a headache.

Also yes, he's a dude who looks like a shark and seems to think he's on very friendly terms with her. Weird, right?]

[More than weird. It's Selphie's first time interacting with Namur and while she can go with the flow of the familiarity. Even if she isn't entirely familiar with the fishman, she's grateful for a friendly face.]

Hey! Crystallis wasn't bad at all. Did the whole saving the world thing again and made a bunch of good friends but I'm wondering something now.

[Selphie gives Namur a guarded, uncertain look before she shook her head slightly.]

Have we... met somewhere before?

[Namur rubs his forehead with his hand while she replies, but freezes at the end. He's had his Spades tattoo redone, and it's there just above his knuckles on the back of his hand, which he turns toward the screen as if she really ought to recognize it, then winces.]

Oh shit. Got confused cuz y's older. Sorry, Sel- er. Selphie. Been awhile since I's at Balamb, shoulda known-

Wait.

Jus' said y' don't know me from Balamb, either.

[And then it hits him, even harder. Both the headache and the realization that this is not a person he knows. Technically.]

Lord a the Sea, I'mma need a drink or ten. Yer the third Selphie I met, sweetheart.

[And boy, is he feeling it.]

[Selphie peers closely at the tattoo on his hand and gives him an apologetic look before shooting a slightly alarmed expression at the mention of Garden.]

You know Balamb Garden? Is everyone okay? Did we...

[She looked at Namur earnestly, desperate for information.]

Did we win?

[Need a drink? Selphie bobs her head slightly before shooting a curious look at Namur. Did he just say that she's the third Selphie he's met?]

Third, huh? Third times the charm? Annnnnnnd, seeing as you know my name, what's yours?

Don't know which time yer talkin' 'bout, but aye. Like hell Balamb's gonna fall. Shit, girl.

[Namur makes a face that says come on. It softens quickly as he looks away from the camera for a moment and rubs at his head a bit more. He chuckles, then turns back to the lens.]

'Less yer the beautiful Selphie Tilmitt, then y' do the charmin' on the second try. Name's Namur.

Cut me some slack here! I didn't know, okay? But... it's still a relief to know that everybody's safe.

[This was by far one of the biggest worries she had while living in Crystallis. Just knowing that everyone was fine in the end took a huge weight off her chest. Now if she knew where Zell and Squall were, things would be even better.

On the second try, huh? Selphie can't help but grin. This kind of feels like talking to an old friend.]

Namur, huh? Well, I dunno about the second time buuuuut I'm pretty sure I can work on the charming part. Third time or not, I'm still me.

...A smidge-bit-on-the-confused-side but still me!

[Oh Lord of the Sea, is that a blush rising on his cheeks?

It is.

But he shakes his aching head, letting the pain bring him back to reality.]

Yeaaaaah... okay. Been hangin' 'round too many damn do-gooders for too long, so I ain't gonna hold y' t' that. Yer a differnt person. Ain't been through the same shit, ain't got any idea the kinda shit we got up t', so 's fine. Don't feel like y' gotta live up t' no one else but the you that y' is, aye?

[She's still processing what happened in the end and needs a bit more time to wrap her head around all of it. Selphie nods thoughtfully before she focuses on something a bit more trivial. Namur might be able to get the information out of this Selphie with a bit of prodding but for now, even if she doesn't know him, she's happy for a helpful face.

She leans a bit closer with a cheeky grin already on her face.]

So Namur, why ya blushing?

Cuz that other Selphie done charmed me right outta my pants, catch me? An' y' look differnt but 'bout the same age an' then y' went on 'bout tryna charm me 'gain an' that made me think a some damn fine memries. LSTS confirmed if y' know what I mean, sheheheheh! 'S why I'm blushin'. Don't worry 'bout it though sweetheart. Get it through my thick skull sooner or later that y' ain't the same girl. Helps y' do yer hair differnt. Probly taste a li'l differnt too but I can't tell for sure through the screen a this thing.

[He taps the communicator screen, just below the recording lens.]

Oh! Well...

[She fidgets with the end of her braid and smiles sheepishly.]

I didn't know what else to do with it besides cutting my bangs back into place. I'm not the same girl I was back then and...

[Now it's Selphie's turn to blush.]

I'm not the charming the pants off of anybody, Namur! And you're not licking me!

Wha? Who said anythin' 'bout lickin' y'?

Oh. Wait.

Naw girl yer thinkin' human taste not my taste. Taste with my face. See?

[Namur leans in really close to the lens and taps the skin around his mouth. There are a lot of really big pores, if she looks close enough.]

Them li'l holes is how I taste shit. 'S kinda... Shit, y'all don't really do nothin' like it, honestly. Has t' do with 'lectricity an' yer chemicals an' all that. 'S how I know differnt folk, an' how I can tell if yer happy or sad or whatever. 'S why I'm shit at figurin' things out on the phones. Can't smell if yer jokin' or if yer serious, y' know?

Upon exiting the Bay and crossing the park surrounding it, Selphie might notice something out of the corner of her eye. Movement from the treeline, though whenever she looked properly there was nothing there.

This would continue for several minutes until-

"Miss?" The voice didn't sound threatening. "Miss! Over here! Can you see me now?" It was a girl! Sort of! She was 4 foot nothing with glowing green eyes and a strange blue sphere that hovered nearby, looping cords floating loosely around her body and attaching at her ankles. She was dressed in a black tank top and skirt exposing the translucent skin, grey muscle, and blue lines of her upper arms.

She also had a very large (and half eaten) cup of shaved ice. And her tone seemed cheerful enough. It also appeared she had been keeping around the trees because there was more shade there. The more you know.

"Hello there Miss. You're new, aren't you? I can tell because you look confused and you're full of stormy purple-grey over steel strings!" And apparently she liked to speak in riddles.

Sure enough, a closer inspection of the treeline of the park provided Selphie with no clues as to who, or what was trying to get her attention. It was like a bit of a wild goose chase before the SeeD followed the voice of the little girl. She looked at the little one curiously as a guarded smile eventually formed on her face.

What did she mean by being full of stormy purple-grey over steel strings? It sounded perplexing and sure enough, left Selphie feeling very confused. The perky brunette crouched down a bit so that she could chat with the little girl on an even eye level. The little girl was definitely correct in her assumption of Selphie being new in Genessia as she yawned. It hadn't been very long since Selphie had woken up, after all!

"Um..." Selphie murmured before bobbing her head in acknowledgement. "Yup, I'm brand new here. Just woke up and everything. But... what do you mean by stormy purple-grey over steel strings? I'm a bit confused because this place isn't where I went to sleep beforehand."

She pointed to the pamphlet in her hand. "This pamphlet says I'm supposed to go to a building where I'll get more information. Am I headed in the right direction?"

"Yup! Everyone woke up here. In the bay, even. It's how we all got here." She took a big bite of shaved ice. "And the grey and strings are what I see. Kind of. It's not strings anymore. But it's still silver. Your head is really pretty miss. It reminds me of warm sunshine. But not too warm like it is today. Nice warm. With a breeze and its relaxing."

Another bite, Koishi frowning a little at the pamphlet. "Umm... I think so? When I got here there wasn't any information building or anything. I just started exploring." She seemed to brighten a little bit.

"Oh! I almost forgot! My name is Koishi Komeiji! I'm a satori youkai. But you don't have to worry. I got rid of my mind reading ability a long time ago. So you don't have to be scared. It's very nice to meet you."

"Something; anything, really!"

[What a hilarious guy he is.]

"Hello! Welcome to Genessia! Could I have your name, please? Speaking of names, I think I've heard..."

[And then his tact catches up, figuring that mentioning the people they both knew, if only for a while, might sting now that they're gone.]

"Never mind."

[Selphie looks at the person curiously.]

Nevermind, what?

My name is Selphie. What about you?

[You can't ask "nevermind what?"! That's the whole point of never minding it!]

"Oh, it's just, ah...those names you mentioned. I've heard some they belong to, that's all."

[Smooth.]

"'Selphie'; now there's one I've never heard before. What does it mean?
Oh, I'm Ted."

[Selphie looks at Ted with hope.]

Really? Did they mention anything about a world called Crystallis?

[She's really hoping against hope but what else can she do?]

It's nice to meet you Ted! I'm actually not too sure what my name means to be honest. I can't exactly ask my parents about that. They're not here to ask!

Ah, sorry, not that I heard.

[Just what he loves to do to new arrivals: get their hopes up then bum them out! All in a day's work.]

Heh, likewise! Rats, a common affliction. Ah well, I'm sure it can't be too hard a thing to research.

How are you doing, otherwise?

I am sorry to say, none of those names are names I have heard around here.

[At least a couple not within the last few months anyway.]

[Selphie nods her head at the news and with a wistful smile on her face, she looks fully at the girl on the other end of the screen.]

Thanks for letting me know. Man, I picked a great time to wake up, didn't I?

You could have woke up at a worse time if I had to be honest.

[Though she isn't sure what could be worse.]

[Haru didn't like the heat at all. She had managed to wear an outfit she probably wouldn't even wear normally because of it. The heat was just that high.

But Haru was trying her best to wade her way through it, carrying a bunch of stuff she bought from the store for her plants and in attempts to keep them alive during the heatwave.

As she stopped for a moment, adjusting the bag slightly before nearly walking into a person.]

I am sorry. Are you okay? Though I'm surprised that there are people who are out during this time.

[Selphie reached out to steady the girl who almost walked into her and that she almost walked into herself. The tops buttons of her red mage outfit were already undone as she shook her head. For all the times to be grateful for the large, floppy hat on her head, this was it!]

Sorry about that! I wasn't watching where I was going and uh... I just woke up so... I didn't know it was the middle of the summer here.

Uh yeah....But at least you woke up during a heatwave rather than when spooky spirits appeared.

[Like she had.]

Otherwise, this could have been a worse situation.

[Colette gives a wave when she clicks on her video.]

Hello there! I can see and hear you just fine! The phones take a little getting used to, but I'm sure you'll figure it out in no time!

[She hesitates for a split second, smile dropping.] Um, I don't think any of those people are here... B-but they could come at any time! [She throws a smile back on, determined not to make the newcomer upset or feel lonely.] And even if they don't, I'm sure you'll make lots of new friends while you're here!

Oh! Hiya!

[Ever on her guard, Selphie grins at Collette. The notion of being on her own again after being surrounded by close allies for so long is daunting to say the least but she's determined to make.

Even if she has to fake it til she makes it.]

I'm in favour of friendly faces! Don't worry about me too much though! I'll be fine in no time.

[Faking it till you make it is Colette's motto. Just keep a smile on and no one has to worry!]

Do you need help finding anything? This world can be a little confusing at first.
