A grotesque combination of sentimentality and narcissism. "Need room to be me"? Indeed; he should "be him" far, far away from others.

The second line is a howler. "River in the not good times." Not good!? There must be a word for that, if he only knew what. I've no doubts his lover taught him all he knew, for he seems to know precious little. Certainly not songwriting.

New York, for all its heady romance of bygone eras, does seem to have become a stultifyingly tame city, if pieces like this are any indication.

Fools are forgivable for being romantic. But this goes all the other way; he goes from praising his lover--always admirable--to saying that she is, nonetheless, inadequate for what he truly loves best: himself.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a piece of music as not good as this. Very, very not good.
