[At first there is silence, though something is definitely turned on. Someone is definitely waiting for something. Then, a guitar begins to play


After it fades, there is a breath and then a slow steady strum of chords, as if to provide background noise]

You know, it's a common misconception that the world is a pretty placid place. That every once in a while, something astounding may drop from the sky or drive up out of the ground, changing life as we know it. But change happens continually all around you. From when you're just walking down the street to when you're sleeping. Skin cells die, skin cells are created. Neural networks and pathways connect as you dream or don't and every breath you're inhaling just a little bit of the cosmos.

So, really, with all that change in mind, constantly going around like an ant inside your brain, you can't really expect me to be surprised by the complete change of location. Because, trust me, I'm not. Bit worried about the timing however, since I'm expected places. [a pause] Ah, it can wait. Give me what you've got.

[he begins to play again.]

The name... is Jhhh Joe, by the way... [a hard riff] Joe Cool.

I dunno, the waking up in a weird pod part was pretty surprising to me. And normally when I go from one world to another its a bit more voluntary, ya know?

Going on a month now.

Though if you're like me and you've got some, shall we say time-sensitive issues going on at home, don't worry about it. We're all stuck here for the foreseeable future, but if we do get sent back, we'll end up right back where and when we started. Which- for a place that makes a habit of kidnapping people- is pretty considerate.

"...Joe Cool? What, are you an alien or something?" [she asked with a laugh. Really, did she just attract people who thought they were cool when they really weren't? Well, them and Rory, who knew he wasn't cool at all, which was Amy would never ever tell him that he actually was.]

[Drop from the sky? Drive up from the ground? She'd had both, figuratively and literally. Whoever this was, he clearly thought he knew everything, oh but he had no clue half the things she knew.]

[the guitar falls completely silent. He needs a moment. A few. A century worth. So far this place seems to exist to remind him of what he's lost, but is strangely, oddly, here again. As if he'd just misplaced it. A word never spoken, a promise not quite kept, a face abandoned long ago who hadn't wanted to leave. All here.

Though there were others here he couldn't recognize at all and who didn't seem to recognize him so inasmuch as the universe increasingly seemed to be about his particular issue of the moment, this place was not quite it.

Still--aside from that, he doesn't know how to respond. So he just plays]

But really it doesn't take smarts to see it's true. You can see it just by watching the world around you. Nothing is ever the same from one day to the next. It's all always changing, growing, dying, being born, reproducing... Even the stars fluctuate at their cores and looking at them from the atmosphere, the light is never quite the same though the change are so infinitesimal that most primitive systems can't even measure it.
