Chara did everything they could to cover every possible outcome when they finally made time to head into Everglade to look into what might be a job in that city? It's that or someone who they may have to stab, either way they have their worn dagger on their person as they wandered about.

Occasionally they would check their smart phone, just to refresh their memory of that symbol. Of course it's most likely during one of those times that they'll end up walking into someone. Or be a target of some unsavory type who most certainly doesn't know any better, who knows?

Chara certainly doesn't.

[HOW DO THEY NOT KNOW ABOUT PHONES? Even a civilization that was stuck underground for lord knows how long knows about phones, but with that answer Chara just gives the poor local a dirty look before going in the direction they were told to go.
