[As Qubine turns on the feed, he lets out what sounds like a deep, guttural sigh.]

...Under ordinary circumstances, I wouldn't take issue with predators hunting their prey. It's only natural...and necessary for one's survival. But the fact that this so-called "Apex Predator" not only hunts for sport, but had also taken out a dragon has me concerned. Its ruthlessness and cunning remind me of the Beastclans of my own world...although I have no reason to believe that they have found their way into Genessia...yet.

[He pauses for a moment. If the Beastclans did arrive, what would they do? It occurs to him that he doesn't know much about them other than their hatred towards dragonkind.]

...I would investigate this myself, but yet...we don't have enough information to work with.

[Something was almost bizarre about seeing a dragon appear on the screen of this world's strange device.]

Sometimes the best solution to that is simply to go forth and seek the answers yourself rather than wait for others. A creature capable of bringing down a dragon can not be left unchecked.

[Hell, it gives him a bad feeling. Cipher may not be here, but that kind of strength is enough to remind Kazuya of him. It's enough to intimidate even him.]

Of course. Hunting a creature like that solo would almost certain be suicide. I'm well familiar.

[Says the guy who gone into ruins that have had monsters that killed dozens of people on his own and promptly kicked the crap out of what was killing those people. Herp.]

I have had the thought of attempting to track the creature myself. Should you or someone else attempt to track it, I would gladly lend my aid.

This certainly will not be the first time I've gone in with almost nothing. That was simply the nature of my tasks at home. Nor can you predict what you'll run into out at sea.

[This "apex predator" really would have been right up his alley at home. Where he didn't have a reputation as a "pirate" he would likely earn the reputation as a beast hunter.]

I specialize in ice and water magic, but I have some ability with light as well. I'm able to use some healing magicks as result. I'm well acquainted with sword and gun as well.

[And flute, but he doesn't need to mention that being a weapon and get weird looks for it.]

Magic is quite versatile in my home world, but the fewer elements a mage attempts to control, the stronger their magic will be. I've trained in ice ever since I was able.

[Part of his ice decision came from the fact he's kind of the guardian-to-be of water and ice, but not that he knew it at the time.]

I will be happy to lend my services. [He bows his head slightly.] My name is Kazuya.

["Killing people is just hunky-dory, folks! Nature's way, don'tchaknow. Kill or be killed, that's the only real law of the land." Son, Ted is disappoint. Of course a evil dragon would start things out that way. Is it any wonder why knights treated them so? If only he could convince how fun and chivalrous dragon-slaying truly was.]

That story was a little sparse on detail, wasn't it? All they really have to go on are corpses, correct? For all we know, something was being repeatedly savaged by beasts, and so it--whatever it is--defended itself. Unless you've reason to believe dragons would never attack someone so pitilessly?

[But, ya know, dragons. When aren't they assaulting people for poops and giggles?]

[Postjudice. He knows allll about dragons; probably more than they do! Read all the right books.]

Huh. If it's as natural and plain as you say, why worry whatsoever? It doesn't sound like it's doing anything especially egregious. Not slaying endangered species or posing a threat to civilization.

[personal profile] youfool 2017-08-16 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)

[Adorable]

But how do they know that? Was this predator given an interview? Did it attack things that wouldn't hurt a fly otherwise? Do the slayings match something an expert knows of before? As I said, we can't rule out self-defense as a possible motive. [Though that might be optimism talking.]

[personal profile] youfool 2017-08-16 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)

If only they shared that reason with the rest of the class, eh? I'd happily join them, had they not, according to the newspaper, already made their trek to see what they could see. Or is something else being organized?

youfool: (Default)

[personal profile] youfool 2017-08-16 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)

Hmm? They been out too long? I don't recall that worrying piece of news. Granted, I don't know much of illegitimate magic, but I'd have thought they had some mystic means of keeping in touch with others. Have they lost contact inauspiciously?

How you work said device is an impressive feat. I'd never known, hehe, dragons' digits to be so dexterous. But you see what I mean about the paper being poor on particulars? Philosophy we can only guess at; not the tiniest tidbit of timekeeping. They must be confident in those mages, at least; goodness knows we've plenty of altruists with time on their hands who'd like nothing better than to accompany them, however long they're taking. And yet, rather than ask for help, they elect to go their merry, singular way. It's almost conspicuously suspicious.

youfool: (Default)

[personal profile] youfool 2017-08-16 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)

Haha. Let's hope what else I'll discover is equally noble.

Oh, not that. I mean the general way the world carries on without us. Don't most of these things in the paper seem so remote? Some invisible divide between us and...the ones without necklaces. Suppose one can't help the distance, perhaps unreachable, between the ensouled and the soulless.

I assume this is about what was in the newspaper right? Weren't they going to send people to investigate?

[Not that didn't stop Yukiko from considering it herself. between that and what was reported the last time she was getting very worried.]

If you want to investigate yourself, I will allow you to do so. Because it does make me worry.

I'm worried that something might happen and that they won't return.

[Even if they are mages, with the last thing that happened two weeks before this and now this...]

If you want me to come and help, I would be okay with that. I mean I want to inve3stigate myself after all.

Three would be better than one or two. Although I shouldn't leave my post, I trust my deputies since this is potentially for the protection of Fayren after all.

[Which means it was a good enough reason if she was to leave her post for the time being.]

We already have two very capable Deputies besides us that are capable. So it's okay if one deputy goes out in the field for experience, which wasn't that something you wanted?

If you are asking that, odds are likely you won't need to bring anything. For me I need to bring things like potions to help me, my weapon of choice, stuff like that.

Small potions can still have the same effect no matter the size. So I'll bring some and hope for the best. Also I can heal anyone pretty much, so that should be okay either way.

I've killed a few dragons in my time, but never unless they attacked me or someone else first. The primal wyrms Midgardsormr and Hraesvelgr count me as a friend. That something - or someone - is out there, slaughtering not only dragons but other beasts of the wild for mere sport is alarming.

That they're doing so on my very doorstep is just flat out insulting. I may be a deputy guardian of Genessia, but Fayren is where I hang my hammers. If whoever seeks out this predator wishes an experienced summoner's aid, I would be more than happy to oblige.

Then let her know that Aeslyn Blackrose has offered her aid, and that I stand ready to defend my new home if necessary - even if that aid is nothing more than providing equipment suitable to hunting a killer of dragons.

I've used them to slay gods. If you require a demonstration, I can provide one.

[No. She really is not kidding.]
blackrose_born: (...and that's how I killed ten gods)

[personal profile] blackrose_born 2017-08-18 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, really. I've no idea if there are any such gods here, and I generally prefer diplomacy to deicide. But I can demonstrate the efficacy of the weapons in question just as easily against a training dummy.

[The gods she's killed were summoned by the beast tribes of her home world, but they were incredibly powerful all the same. Especially the Warring Triad...]
