It took a while for Maggie to feel safe enough to even look at the device she'd been given - more or less a cellphone - let alone the other things she'd woken up with, in that damp, dark cave. It was easy enough to understand, but she was out of practice; It'd been a long, long time since she'd seen a working phone. But safety mattered more, and the first thing she'd done was get out of the cave and into the blistering sunlight. After that, it had been a matter of seeing for herself that this place was - as the bizarre hologram woman had promised - safe and free of walkers, at least from what she could see. Now, she set up a voice message, from where she was sitting on a bench she'd found, at the edges of a park. It'd been a long time since she'd seen one of those, too.

"H-hello?" She started, swallowing hard before pressing on, forcing her voice steady despite the scary strangeness of this place. A scary strangeness she'd felt before, that still felt wrong in the pit of her stomach. "My name is Maggie. I just arrived here, and I'm trying to get.. situated. Things were pretty bad where I was, and I was hoping - if this place is safe, maybe some of my friends came here, too? Is it true that there's no walkers here?" The last question was sort of blurted out, unintentional, and she shut up as soon as she'd said it. It was a hope too far - a world without walkers. But it was also - maybe, probably? - a world without Glenn and the others, too, and that was worse. That was terrible. Hastily, she added, "I heard - I heard it was safe here. Is that true?"

"You've got no idea. It's been.. years." That was an uncomfortable thought. "I almost don't remember living any other kind of way. Where I'm from... it's everywhere. We just try to survive."

But you remember a time before.

The dead did not always walk?

"Sometimes. Sometimes-" She took a deep breath, forcing steadiness back into her voice, "It's hard to remember. But no, they didn't. It started a few years back. Some kind of.. worldwide infection, or something like that."

... I am sorry.

I did not mean to upset you.

"It's alright. I'm not upset." She paused, shook her head, and added, "I mean, I am, but it's not your fault. It's just a lot to take in, here."

... It is strange. To be safe, or at least, without the dangerous you're used to.

"Yeah. It's like- I don't know, like being stuck swimming in the ocean your whole life and suddenly being dragged up on shore."

That's why you want your friends to be kidnapped here, also.

... There is nothing from home you would miss?

"Only people," she confirmed, voice gone slightly quiet. "There's nothing else left in my world."

[ Dorothy is quiet for a while, perhaps too long. But she's thinking about what it would be like, getting to the point where you believe your world cannot be saved.

Quiet: ] I'm sorry.

... Maybe someone else knows a way to bring people to Genessia.

Maggie nodded, though Dorothy couldn't see it. Her expression was drawn, but she managed a faint smile at that. "Thank you. I hope so. I want to believe they can come here.. that they can be safe here, too." She would deny it if anyone accused her of having tears in her eyes.

[ Being quiet for a moment, after that, only seemed respectful. After all, she couldn't offer any real help. She could only agree with this stranger. ]

... What do you want to do? Now, that you're safe?

Maggie thought about that for a moment. She'd thought about it, briefly, before, of course, but.. that was a long time ago. And she'd been through a lot since then. It felt like it had been years, even though it had only been a month, maybe two.

Finally, she answered, quiet but steady, "I want to help the people here. I- I want to be a part of this place."

There will be many chances.

[ Pause. ]

This place isn't dangerous like yours is ... but there are still dangers.

"I've been told some about it." She nodded, adding after a moment, "I'll find out more. I don't think I know how to sit idle and let other people protect me anymore."

[ Dorothy could respect that. ]

Neither can I.

I'm sorry, I never introduced myself. My name is R. Dorothy Wayneright.

"We've got that in common, then." Maggie smiled a little at that. "It's nice to meet you. I'm Maggie. Maggie Rhee."

[ It may be hard to tell, but her tone of voice seems ... softer? ]

It's nice to meet you, Miss Rhee.

I hope your friends arrive here, too.
