[Video] Game night

[The feed opens up with Gwen lounging about in the library. She's got a handful of books resting on her lap, along with a plastic bag filled with various types of coloured dice]

Hey there nerds. In case we haven't met, I'm Gwen. Reporting to you live from the library.

I know a couple people shown some interest in playing a game from my world called Dungeons and Dragons. I played it a bit in high school with some friends and figured I could run a game here.

[She holds up one of the books, which just so happens to be the players guide. ]

Basically you make a character based guidelines in this book and go on a crazy fantasy adventure put together by the Dungeon Master or DM. Which would be me in this case.

It's pretty cool. I'd recommend you give you give it a try even if you're already capable of going on actual magical adventures here.

Just leave me a message if you're interested in playing. I've got some time to run through the rules or help people make some characters if you want. Jaune and Robin, if you see this we can get right to character building.

I'm sorry I'm late! But if there are any slots left, I'd very much like to play as well. It sounds fun!

Excellent, you got your hands on a book of it! Would I be able to have a good read of it in addition to creating a character with you? I wish to be well versed with the rules.

[she's so excited!] And Jaune is going to be participating too? This really will be an interesting game.

[Gwen's jotting down some notes when she gets the call.

She hadn't really done the DMing thing before. That was always something Peter had done...]

[It's not like Gwen was ever on time for anything.]

I'm pretty sure I can squeeze you in.

Really?! Thank you! Everything was so hectic I really didn't have a chance to respond sooner.

Anou...do you need a place to play? I submitted an application to open my bakery. It would be a good location for games, especially if you want to eat desserts at the same time!

I did! Had to scrounge around a bit but I managed to find a game shop with a few of the books. I have to get some mini's next but they'll be easier to pick out once I know what everyone's playing.

Sure thing. I only need the book to go over the basics and character creation with anyone else. Once everyone's set up you're free to borrow it until we play. It'll be good to study up before hand.

[There's a nod.]

Yeah, he was the first person I ran into here who knew about the game. You know him?

Well there were monster literally running around the place not too long ago. So yeah, I figured I can give you some leeway.

[She taps her pen against her desk in thought for a moment. She hadn't thought this part through yet.]

You had me at desserts. We could definitely use a spot with some space for everyone. That works perfectly.

Great! What time did you want to set aside for games? I'll talk to Aragaki-san, so we can make sure to reserve some space for everybody.

--Oh, I guess I should wait until the bakery is actually open...but I'll do my best to include any specific requests!

Hello Gwen, I'm Scott. I know that game form home too but I never really played. What's its final purpose?

Sup, Scott?

Final purpose? Get together with friends and have a good time, I'd say. Strategy and role playing stuff.

Each campaign is a little different so it can be hard to say what the hard game is. Could be taking down a big bad dragon, might be saving a kingdom from certain doom. Kind of depends on what the group wants to do.

Is it fun?

[She has been told to find a hobby.]

Nah. Most people would say it's lame and dorky.

[There's a smirk.]

Of course it's fun. That's why I'm asking people to play.

Can I try it?

I have no base comparison for lame and dorky.

[She'll need a lot of help. Enis has almost no creativity unless it comes to sound.]

Now much now that I'm back to my normal body. This last week's madness has been interesting. Were you affected, by any chance?

I see...that sounds fun. I like strategies and coming up with plans. Used to do a lot of that back home, just not for games.

[Scott runs a hand through his hair and looks away for a moment. Could be fun and socializing more won't hurt. Now, if only he were any good at it...]

Do you still have any slots lefts?

A lack of sleep thanks to monsters clawing at my windows every night. I end up getting transformed into anything weird though, thankfully.

I managed to avoid getting transformed into anything. How about you?

Oh yeah? What'd you do back where your from? You sort of things did you make strategies for back there?

[Don't sweat it. She's used to hanging out with nerds.]

Yeah, I've got a couple spots left.

Well. I can help you figure that out. I go between total rockstar and lame pretty quick. I can show you the difference.

[A very small smile touches the corner of Enis's mouth.]

Dungeons and Dragons. What sort of game is it? I see that it's an adventure game but what else? How do you determine how well you do?

Mini's? [tell her about them miniatures bro.]

Of course. Let me know when I can borrow it from you.

[she smiles warmly at the thought of her friend.] Jaune is a dear companion and I'll be happy to play alongside him. I know he will be excellent at this game as well.

Do you live in Genessia city then? No transformation was probably for the best, I spent most of the week hungry.

I was, uhm... tuned into an incubus.

I worked for an independent, nonprofit organization. [*Cough* yeah, let's call the X-men and the Champions that.] We helped people all around the planet.

Then I'd like to give it a try. I don't know the rules to creating a character, though.

Yeah. They're like little figurines about the size of...

[There's a pause as she pulls out one of the dice from her bag.]

About the same size as one of these. They represent all the characters in the game. We'll have to find one that matches your character when we figure out more about them.

[D'awwww. Look at her liking her friends.]

Dear companion, eh? Pretty tight, huh?

[Nudge nudge. wink wink.]

Yeah. I've got a small apartment here. It's not too bad.

[She quirks a brow at the hungry comment. Then puts a hand to her mouth to hide a fit of giggles.]

So you were hungry for a little... bow chicka wow wow~? Pffffffft. I can't believe I missed that!

[There's a nod.]

Oh that's pretty neat. Nothing wrong with some solid charity work.

I can help you with that. I've got a book of all the character classes. You could be a warrior, a wizard, thief. All sorts of stuff. Would you rather be a physical fighter or ranged?

So they represent the characters, much like tokens on a map for a battlefield. I see, that definitely makes sense.

[her tactician brain is loving this.]

Yes, of course we are. I am close with all of my friends. [robin squints a little...]

...Why do you ask?

Exactly. And we'll even have a little map with grids and shit to show how far each character can move on their turn.

[There's a teasing smirk as she waves her hands in front of her.]

Oh, no reason at all. It was purely out of curiosity.

[Quick Stacy, Topic change.]

So about -uhm- Character creation.

I like that city but I live in Attleton. The School and Universities are here.

[A hand goes to his face too but he's trying to hide his embarrassment. Scott's not doing a very good job at that, his cheeks are pink now.] I was hungry in general. Food and drinks didn't stop the hunger, contact and being around people did the trick.

It isn't always easy but we tried our best. What did you do back home?

I appreciate the help. Physical fighter, I think I like that better.

Not like the fantasy environments here yield up much pathos or narrative structure.

And I haven't touched an RPG in... [decades, at least] a while.

I'll do it.

You know, I've never actually played. Some of the...others did, but I was never ~~liked enough to be invited~~ free. Turns out, I have a lot more free time here.
