[Action]
[It's not an illusion, or a trick if helpless, unsuspecting citizens of Genessia, happen to catch sight of a webslinging man in a blue and red suit testing out his limits in this new area. There's only one way to really explore the city and that's to shoot webs from his wrists and fling himself from rooftop to rooftop with all the care and bravery any teenager would.
Anyone in trouble? He'll drop down in a flash, even if it's just to help with carrying groceries. He is after all, the friendly neighbourhood superhero.]
[Audio]
[He should be upset right? But there's really only one thing that comes to mind at the moment.]
Woohoo! I don't have to go to school today!
[That's his takeaway, he might process more later, but, priorities.]

<audio>
"That's the first praise out of your mouth? Truancy?"
<audio>
I could be doing so many other things!
[Like webslinging and saving the innocent people of New York. That feels way more important than some stupid English class.]
Re: <audio>
Aheh, you're not wrong. Depends on the subject matter. What other subjects could you be engaging, while we're on the subject?
[Subject]
no subject
[Study chemistry, make webshooters, same thing.]
I could be hanging out with my friends, or building stuff, that would be fun.
no subject
[Ted don't encourage endless hooky]
Ah, your friends are here too? What fortune!
Oh, but I haven't got your name.
no subject
[Ted can probably hear him rolling his eyes.]
No, my friends aren't here, I think. Ned would've said something by now if he was.
[He's smiling pleasantly.]
It's Peter. [He pauses, because he always forgets that Peter is a generic name and he should add his last.] Parker.
no subject
[Peter you must have some really loud eyes for anyone to hear them. But that's usually a motion Ted ignores anyway. As usual, he put his foot in his mouth and just reminded another poor newbie of their lonely state. Drat.]
Can't imagine why. Once one's literate, that should be all one needs, I expect. Perhaps for the finding of schoolmates?
Well, it's nice to meet you. Fine alliteration, by the way. Well, I'm sure there's plenty of friends here, while you're staying! All with a similar distaste for formal education, no doubt.
no subject
[So many better things to do. Webslinging things.]
It's okay, Ned will be so jealous when I tell him all about it! A whole new place, by accident? Really amazing.
[He's not worried, not yet. It's way too early to be homesick.]
no subject
[He feigns worry]
A fate worse than death! Though, not to worry. I think only professors spend their whole lives in school, and by then they've become craven enough to enjoy it. An acquired taste, perhaps? I know one like that who's older than dirt. Maybe time's all you need.
Aheh, I hope Ned's the credulous sort. Were I to tell my parents half the things that have happened here, they'd either encourage me to pen it in a book, or have the final piece of evidence to put me in the asylum.
[He swears he's not crazy.]
"Accident", eh? You detect no solid intent or particular purpose, then?
no subject
[He laughs.]
Ned'll believe me. He knows I'm not big on lying, I'm kind of a terrible liar. I wouldn't tell my aunt though, she'd get mad and I don't want to be grounded.
[What kind of horrible person grounds a superhero?
Tony]Nah, why? You think I'm here for a reason? I'm just a student though!
no subject
Ha, wait no more, for I'd say you're well and truly out. If you'd ever like a way back in, let me know. I've just the schoolmarm who might reignite your academic interest all on her own.
Aheh, well there are worse weaknesses to have than flaccid fibbing. You live with your aunt?
[Yeah ask about his missing parents too. That'll perk him up.]
I don't see why not! Most things happen for a reason, I expect. If that doesn't veer too close to conspiracy theory. Not a flawless, divine, vocational thing, mind. I'd liken it to an audition; the world wants a certain type so it's seeing who will do and how they'll do. And, heh, don't worry, whatever its criterion, academic excellence doesn't appear to be high on the list.
no subject
No thanks! I've been saying school is a waste of time forever, if I don't have to go then I won't! [That shouldn't be mistaken for not learning. He enjoys learning.]
[He makes an agreeable noise.] Yep, I live with my Aunt May in an apartment in New York. [Genessia is no New York City.] She's good, I guess. She worries about me and stuff.
[Ted picks the best topics of discussion.]
Hey, I never said I wasn't good at school. I have excellent grades, but it's not interesting.
no subject
Heh, worry's certainly the mark of a caring parent, in my experience.
[Wait, aunt]
...or guardian!
Oh, perish the thought. Still, it does seem a tragedy to have no interest in one's talents, even if they are in the doldrums of academia. But you found--I presume--Ned in the whole thing. That's something, eh? You're bound to find others here, too. Though whether Genessia means to teach us anything in that vein remains to be seen. If it is a place of instruction, the lesson is very subtle.
no subject
[She absolutely does. He lets the comment slide, he's used to it. Most people have parents after all, he knows he's the odd man out.]
I have lots of interests, but when you go to school they don't let you just take what you like. They make you take everything.
no subject
Hah, mm, I think worrying is woman's especial privilege.
[Wow Peter, lying to people on your very first day. For shame.]
Ah, well, that gets a little better in college. Once you move past the first few necessities, things branch out.
Aheh, not that I've much room to speak of that. I was still in my freshman year when the world took me. None too soon, too. Dull as dishwater.
[And more than a little lonely.]
But, ah, don't tell your aunt I said that.
no subject
I don't know, I've had guys yell at me too.
[That's not a giveaway that he's been scolded before for being reckless at all.]
College, man I don't know. Can't I just learn what I want outside of school? I wish I was in college though. I'm still in high school!
no subject
Ahaha, well that's nothing strange. Hardly living at all if you don't get the volume of both sexes.
[Says someone who is and always will be a noxious troublemaker.]
I don't know, can you?
[That joke never gets old! Ever!]
I should hope so; goodness knows your chances of learning the important things in their not-so-hallowed halls is slim. Well, as we've firmly established, school has loosened its grip on you for the time being. Though the more I lampoon, the more I invite a materteral, otherworldly grip on my own heart for corrupting youth.
[That means he should do exactly that]
What sort of trouble did you get into to invite scorn, anyway? Any good pranks?
[You know. For research.]
no subject
I go to a good school and all, kinda specialized? But even still you have to take boring stuff you'll never use. I'm in a club, we do the decathlon.
[He's such a huge nerd.]
Pranks? No. [He laughs.] Uh, well...just taking on too much you know? Sometimes you do too many things like work too much at your internship and then people worry.
[Or crime fighting above his 'designated pay grade' but really, Peter knows he can handle it, everyone should agree with him and stop treating him like a kid.]
no subject
[Ted knows the traditional meaning of decathlon, i.e. track & field par excellence. So now he's getting the impression of the opposite of a nerd.]
no subject
[He makes an agreeable noise.]
Some people think that, yeah, but it's fine. I have everything under control!
no subject
[Ted completely believes Peter's unprovoked assurance! Something's not adding up though...]
Aheh, oh, I see. What did this decathlon consist of?
no subject
Well, it's five kinds of events. One of them is seven multiple choice tests in the basic subjects, art, music, social science, science, economics, literature and math. Then you have to be ready to write an essay under a time crunch on any of the subjects that aren't math. They also give you an interview, which is okay and you have to make a four minute speech.
Finally they have the big super quiz which is kind of like a game show on a wide variety of topics.
no subject
[He looks deep in thought. Then he laughs and gives it up.]
Let me see if I understand you. School is an onerous chore for the superfluity of its content. For an extracurricular, you've taken an event that's, as near I can tell, more of the same, with a trivia contest to top it all off.
I would love to hear you square that circle.
no subject
I get to be on the team because a lot of that comes pretty easily to me, especially the sciences. Art I'm not so good at.
no subject
Aheheh, I see, so school wasn't, ah, quite as stimulating. Well, if Genessia behaves like I know, it ought to provide just what you're looking for. I might let you get back to it, unless you've any pressing questions or concerns?
