Video/ OPEN TO ACTION: first introduction

[On the screen appears an absolutely ordinary looking young woman. Light brown hair with just a hint of frizz to it, a furrowed brow and eyes that swivel between the device in her hand, the map she retrieved from the magazine stand and the entrance to the cave behind her. She is wearing the standard necklace, though her stone appears to shimmer like peacock feathers, with the dominant color changing depending on lighting. For those close enough to hear, they might catch shards of what is clearly a muttered conversation to herself.]

"This is all highly irregular. I thought we had got rid of all the secret magical portals that go nowhere. And this device... it looks just like the one Dad was raving about the last time I spoke to him. Something about a new invention from Japan." 

[The look on her face appears to change from confused to mildly annoyed.]

"Right. I'd best get some answers before someone gets hurt. I'm sure the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad will want to know about this. Now, where is the nearest library?"

[She looks at the map, and then up again to find signs for streetnames. While the communications device looked simple enough, all Hermione can remember is what Mr. Weasley said: "Don't trust something if you can't see where it keeps its brain." She tucks the device in her ever-trusty bag-with-undetectable-extension-charm. Out comes the wand, and when Hermione casts the usual "Point me" spell.... nothing happens. Her wand wobbles and doesn't really do anything. At this point she looks up, trying to find a friendly face.]

"Hello?"

Am I to understand you're a mage of some sort?

[That's what an accidental magic reversal squad would be in charge of right, fellow mages? Which means she's likely from a society where mages are much more commonplace than her home of Ylisse... or simply that this girl is more intimately involved with organizations involving them.]

How much have you played with this little device of yours yet?

[Because Maribelle was fairly certain Weiss had made an introduction video way back in the day that's probably still given out to newcomers.]

[Hermione turns around at the sound of the friendly voice.]

"Oh hello!" She thinks for a moment. "Well, uh... yes. I suppose?" Did I just violate the Statute of Secrecy?

[Hermione retrieves the device from her bag.]

"Not really, I suppose. There was a nice video when I woke up, but it's just... I don't know where it keeps its brain, so I want to know a bit more about this device first. I have some... unpleasant experiences with things that think for themselves."

Ah! Then allow me to assure you that this device you hold is not in fact a sentient piece of machinery. It is merely a communications device with others in this place, and it has visual recordings of conversations, some of which have been put onto the device itself to help newcomers.

[Maribelle clears her throat, preparing to introduce herself.]

Allow me to introduce myself, I am Lady Maribelle and I am one of the deputy guardians of the City of Evergreen, one of the five connected cities in this new world you have found yourself in.

[Hermione can appreciate helpful information and politeness anywhere, so instead of a careful neutral mien, she smiles slightly.]

"Oh, I see! It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, I'm sure!"

[She tentatively turns the device over in her hand a few times.]

"You're quite certain this is safe?" [After a few seconds, she adds, almost as an afterthought:] "My name's Hermione Granger." [She holds out her hand in the customary greeting in her world, not even considering for the moment that that might be inappropriate]

[These reptilian eyes are clearly not human and he's wearing what seems to be a bone-like mask. The voice is harsh.]

I would strongly advise you not to attack anyone with any of your magic.

[Yes, he's taking her words of someone getting hurt very literally as a threat and sending a warning.]

[There is a slight note of hesitancy in her voice when she turns around.]

"I beg your pardon?"

[As there is no one there, there is a moment of confusion. Then she looks down at the device in her hand and sees the strange face. Hermione's no stranger to unusual looking creatures, so while the mask is a little strange, it thankfully bears little resemblance to Death Eaters.]

[Once she's looking his way, he introduces himself sternly before explaining his words.]

I am General Grievous, deputy Guardian of Nova City.

I take it that you are a new arrival and many new arrivals think they can accomplish more with threats and violence. This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.

[Hermione bristles at being accused unjustly of being violent.]

Well, I say! I didn't say anything about violence. I'm afraid people will get hurt if they suddenly find themselves in a strange environment where nothing is clear. You'd be surprised just how easy it is to get hurt in a new environment.

[She huffs for good measure.]

{ Whoever she was, she'd said the magic word - no pun intended - several times. Zeref's attention was drawn immediately. But 'Accidental Magic Reverse Squad?' He'd never heard of that. Any mage whose accidental use of magic required an entire squad dedicated to undoing the damage should probably go live on an island, alone.

Kind of like he did. }

Several of us have looked into the possibility of magic being responsible for us being here. All of our findings have proven inconclusive.

Hermione has gotten the hang of this communication device, it seems. She does hold it up somewhat awkwardly, but even so...

"Hello? Who am I speaking to, please?"

She's relieved that there is at least one other being who believes in magic here.

"This is one of the cities, yes," she asks politely. "Thank you for the recommendation...." she trails off, hoping the person on the other side will take the cue and give their name.

[What she sees on looking up is a young man, paying literally no attention to his surroundings, his attention fixed on not another device, but an actual smartphone, just about a quarter second from walking into her. Which he proceeds to do. The aforementioned phone proceeds to do what all such objects do on contact with pavement - shatter. That, however, is the least of his worries.]

Oh! I'm sorry; I wasn't watching where I was going...

[And then he notices the wand. His eyes go a little wide and his hands go up, and so do his defenses.]

[Almost immediately, Hermione's guard goes up, and as if by reflex her wand comes up in an en-garde position. When she sees the person give her a frightened look with raised hands it takes her a moment to connect the dots. As soon as she does, the wand goes down about an inch or so.]

Clearly. But the damage looks minimal.

[To her, anything that doesn't involve physical harm is minimal, as possessions can be fixed easily.]

[Probably a good thing for both of them. Between shields and curse immunity, it's almost a certainty her first spell would fail - and his would probably involve something very much not-human-looking. Good thing for them both that the situation is mostly defused, yes?]

The screen can be replaced, but if the memory is damaged... It's all I have from my world that means anything to me.

[He actually sounds a little helpless, as he stares down at the broken phone. There's likely someplace in Nova City that can fix it and save the information, but at what cost? He isn't exactly rolling in red bills...]

((OOC: Permission granted! It's just the screen busted, nothing major internally wrong.))

Satisfied that there is no immediate threat, Hermione lowers her wand completely and considers the person standing in front of her properly. She hears the faint note of helplessness in his voice, and her mothering instinct takes over.

"Hmm... let's see."

She lowers herself so she can take a closer look at the phone, pretending to know what the device is.

"You say this is something from your home world?"

Out comes the wand again, but this time it's pointed at the device on the ground. Hermione mutters something that sounds a lot like "Reparo!" while making the appropriate wand motions. And just like that, the device's cover seems to repair itself. Hermione picks it up and hands it over.

"Try now. I'm afraid I don't know much about these devices, and I should be interested to see if it works as it should."

A very brief pause, and then she extends her (other) hand.

"My name's Hermione Granger. And you are...?"

"Hello!" proclaimed Baymax, on his usual visit to the caverns and he held out a blanket for warmth. "I am Baymax, your personal health care companion. I am a doctor at Genessia City, and I welcome you to Genessia."

Such a warm looking huggable robot he is!

Hermione turns around at the sound of that friendly greeting. The sight that greets her is a little unexpected. A big... blimp?

"Thank you! Charmed, I'm sure!" she replies in an equally friendly tone. Hermione gratefully accepts the blanket as it would be rude not to do so. "You're a... doctor? You mean a Healer?"

"A doctor heals the sick and treats those in need," said Baymax. "I have cataloged Healer as a magic user, or someone using advanced technology to do so. I am neither. I am a doctor."

He blinked slowly for a moment. "May I ask your name so I may add it to my medical patient list?"

And when Hermione looked up there would be a pair of glowing green eyes floating several inches from her face. They were attached to a fairly short girl who was very clearly something other than human. A closed third eye floated in front of her chest, attached to her body by two artery-like cords that looped around her body and connected to her ankles.

"Hello there Miss!" At least she was friendly, right?

Koishi had been following her from the bay, using her powers to remain hidden. And now she was there, in Hermione's face with zero regard to her personal space.

[[OOC: I'm cool with Hermione knowing all about Satori youkai since she no doubt studied a lot of mythological creatures.]]

The sudden greeting is a surprise, and Hermione feels her eyebrows go up when she notices the glowing green eyes. She instinctively takes a step back from finding this person so very close to her own person.

"... Hello."

"Hello!" Koishi repeated, drifting forward a little bit as Hermione took a step back. Though the witch would find herself with a slight net gain in personal space.

"I noticed you here and I've never seen you before. Are you new? I like meeting new people."

[Mavis blinks. That magic wand... It looks strangely similar to the one the blond girl named Luna keeps behind her ear.]

I could take you to the nearest library, sure. Or to a bookstore if that works too. I happen to own one.

Someone said the magic word: library.

"Thank you! I'm glad to hear that both exist in this place."

Hermione bites her lower lip as she considers the offer.

"Could you provide me with directions? I think I should like to try finding my way around this place."

You and me both. [Mavis couldn't live in a place without books.]

Of course. [She sends the coordinates to both places to Hermione's smart phone.] It's a good thing to do upon getting to a new place.

[She hesitates for a bit but thinking of the wand, she decides to add, just in case.] I'm the guild master of the mage guild called Fairy Tail.
