[ Eliot had just invited Rip to come stay with him at his apartment. There is little worse to Eliot than leaving a lady without a roof over her head, or proper curtains to block out the sun. He was busy moving his belongings from the bedroom that he was loaning Rip: Important things, like books he still needed to read and a notebook with his pocket watch melody written down. You know. All his belongings... which he really doesn't have much of.

When he hears the apartment door unlocking, Eliot suddenly drops the books he was holding and spins around. Now in a fantastic mood, he waits with a big smile and shining eyes for the door to open. There's only one person it could be, after all. ]

Augustine~!!! Welcome home!

[And now, for something completely unrelated. Eliot wondering what to call the feeling of enjoying Augustine's presence in the apartment. Anyone who knows of normal relationships might realize that Eliot thinks of Augustine as a father.

For Eliot, however, the comparison is very different.]

So... I've never had someone nice to live with me before... Is there a word for this kind of relationship? I feel like a dog who is happy to have someone to sit with on the couch. Is there a name for that? [Yes, Eliot is comparing himself to a dog.]

You can be friends who live together or you can be two people dating who live together. If you're having sex but aren't dating then I believe the term is friends-with-benefits. [There is another thing to call it but Enis isn't going to be that crude.]

There's a word for pretty much every kind of relationship.

[Unfortunately for Enis, this is the first time Eliot is meeting her as 'this' Eliot: He doesn't remember ever meeting her.]

Are you? Then be friends. You get to define the relationship Eliot. Whatever it is, it's up to you and you can call it whatever you want. [Which is the point of what she'd said though now she feels a little bad for freaking him out.]

... Huh? B-but then... why do we have dictionaries... They're rules for how words are used, r-right?

Yes but you don't have to define everything so rigidly.

This is someone you're comfortable around and feel close too. That's enough, isn't it?

S-Sorry. It's so strange to think about... I'm so used to rules, this... feels weird.

Because I'm a 'Library,' I am supposed to have a neutral opinion on matters. If I deviate too much from neutral...

[He shakes his head, shuddering.] I don't remember what would happen. But it feels... cold?

[Eliot has sealed the more traumatic bits of his memory, such as the punishments and threats he used to endure. He doesn't remember that it was preferred to kill Libraries that had too many of their own opinions.]

I just have a feeling that it's better if I stay in line.

I don't know what it means to be a Library.

[Though she doesn't know what it feels like to be locked up and given a strict set of rules, of course Enis had been programmed to follow the rules so she didn't have any free thought that she hadn't been allowed.]

But this isn't there and you can do what you want.

And while you're correct... My only concern is returning home and knowing too much. What if that becomes a reason to... what that 'cold' feeling is... Punish me?
