In my meditations, a question has come to my mind, and - having found no acceptable answer on my own - I in turn pose to the people who have been brought here against their will.

What do you do with a weapon whose purpose is lost?

That depends I suppose. What is the purpose of the weapon in the first place?

Maybe we can find new purpose for this weapon!

The same as all weapons; to destroy.

That's not true! Not all weapons are made to destroy!

A lot of those weapons were made initially for the sole purpose of protecting others. To make lives better.

And just how does a weapon protect? By destroying something else. It matters not whether it's a blade or something more sophisticated. Weapons are made for battle, and battle alone. They have no purpose in peace.

I guess it would depend on what the weapon was suppose to be used for. Or even how it's purpose got lost.

All weapons share a singular purpose; to destroy. The purpose was lost when the weapon itself refused it.

Make it into something that's not a weapon, like repurposing. Like you can make jeans you don't use anymore into paper or use the pole from a spear as a back scratcher or a hockey stick. You can take the gunpowder out of bullets and make it into a firework... Do you need more examples?

And when the weapon in question is a living being?

Does the living being have its own will or is it like a plant?

What good would a living weapon be if it lacked the capacity to read situations and adjust accordingly?

You're a living being, one that thinks and feels for himself.

Battle is all I know, the only thing that brings me even the smallest modicum of entertainment. However, that is not exactly an option in this place.

That doesn't mean that it's all you have to know. And I know people who enjoy fighting - there's nothing wrong with that. Unless the enjoyment comes from hurting people and seeng them suffer. But you're not a weapon. You can use your ability to the benefit of others if YOU want to. That's what separates you from being a weapon. Your freedom of choice.

Weapons will always have their purpose in the world. No matter where you go, someone will want to use it to defend themselves or their loved ones, or cause suffering in others.

[But he doesn't quite think that's what Mewtwo means.]

But something like a sword or a knife can always serve as a tool. While they are meant to bring harm to others, sometimes they can be symbolic of something as well.

And if there are no others the weapon wishes to protect, and none that can challenge it in battle?

[Hmm... he did seem to be on to something with the symbolism bit... though in his mind it quickly turns counter productive.]

The only thing this weapon symbolizes is power. Its mere existence attracts those who would wish to wield its power for themselves.

Then make a new meaning for it. Let it symbolize independence, the strength to move forward against adversity. Symbols only have as much weight as we give them, so why not give it something positive?
