[So, Karla's heard that this will be David Haller's last term as Guardian. While she can't fault him for it because he's worked long and hard, and he deserves his rest, it's already making her question her own future. What will it mean for her as a Deputy? Would she have to step down? Could she step up and become a Guardian? She doubts it.] But maybe if she had someone at her side?

I'm...curious about something. Do you think it would be wiser to have more than one Guardian for each city? It seemed to happen for a while in Nova City after Weiss stepped down. Perhaps no more than two. The Deputy system is effective, I think, so there's no reason to change that.

Anyway...what are your opinions?

[karla that's what he said. In the end, the guardians choose the deputies.]

Hm, I see. That would be the only way it would work without being a fool's errand. [Otherwise, you run into the too many cooks problems, conflicting ideas, incompatible personalities... running on a platform together, however would solve that. His frown stays placed firmly on his face.]

But what would be the point? You've stated the deputy system is effective, adding more into the hierarchy could possibly only cause problems, regardless.

[He's not necessarily against double Guardians, but the reasoning here feels flimsy to him, somehow. Having been in a position where he had to make decisions alone, this particular "point" only gets him to shake his head in disagreement.]

Positions of power often find that they are required to make decisions alone. It it part of the weight they carry as a leader. If they cannot handle that responsibility perhaps they should not run at all, it shows that they are weak.

[Nothing is, however, keeping them from keeping their ears open regarding the opinions of the people they lead, or work with. But in the end... as a leader someone must be able to make those hard decisions on their own.]

[He's not sure he follows what she's saying, but he exhales thoughtfully before speaking again.]

That is a problem with a simple solution. Hold a temporary election to replace the missing Guardian. Of course, those who are deputies would be encouraged to run, but in the end it is still settled the same way a guardian would normally be elected.
