[The screen starts on, but the area is dark and shadowed as the man using the phone is still working on managing the camera just right. Currently, he has his fingers over the camera.]

Did anyone see that creepy guy with the mask just a few minutes ago? Who said nothing?

Is this thing even on? Oh, there's a green light--

[Finally, fingers move away from the lens to reveal a pale redhead who peered at the phone with the gaze of someone who was still trying to get the image to clear.

He waits, as if expecting another face to appear to respond, like it would during a proper mirror call. Uncertain if that was how this phone worked, he sighed.]

Well, I'm not sure if anyone is watching, but the my name is Spirit Albarn, Death Scythe. And my daughter is here too. If you so much as touch her, I will kill you.

[Spirit's new boss or no, even Kid must mightily resist the juvenile urge to prod Maka with a finger to the shoulder in full view of her father.

If only because she'd cave in his skull with the heaviest book she can find and that smarts.]

As for the masked man, I suppose we could go searching. Between our mobility and Maka's Soul Perception, perhaps we may discover something useful.

You are definitely the only one excused from that threat. And only because you're the new Lord Death.

We could. But there's a whole host of characters here. What's to say that's just...normal...for here?

This city does seem extraordinarily populated with a greater variety of souls than even Death City.

[He cups his chin, bobbing his head in a somber nod.]

Suffice it to say my curiosity is for a lack of purpose. Have you seen the archways? I've heard they lead somewhere interesting.

The new arrival? The one who claimed to be a Scythe Meister, was it?

[She said shrugging before moving on to his earlier inquiry.]

That thing is a new arrival from my world. Called the Blue Spirit. A fugitive and known outlaw.

You need not concern yourself with him. I'll handle him.

I haven't seen them, but I also haven't strayed far.

[He shrugs slightly, a small frown on his face. Never would he admit that hey, exploring alone comes with risk--sure he can fight alone, but it isn't quite the same as having a meister.]

Have you heard anything about these weird necklaces?

[At this, he fishes a small chain from beneath his collar, a small blue stone dangling from it.]

This sure as hell isn't mine, but when I woke up...there it was.

Yeah, the one who claimed to be a Scythe Meister. She's a damn good one, too.

[He frowns at her comment.]

I'm not sure I'm so comfortable with leaving him up to you alone, if he's so happy to be a creepy stalker using these phone..things.

I'm sorry, but what exactly is a Scythe Meister?

And don't worry, I'm more than capable. However, should I need help, I'll consider contacting you. I don't need people dying because of this thing.

[Spirit had started to understand, however vaguely, that not everyone here was from his world. His own soul perception skills were not fantastic, but he could sense that here was different.]

I'm a weapon. A scythe, to be specific, and a Death Scythe to be very specific. Where I come from, some have the ability to have a weapon and a human form. But seeing as weapons don't walk around on their own, we need meisters--people who wield us in our weapon form. Maka is just that: a very skilled meister. Her partner is a scythe as well, hence the title.

[With a small fizzle of light, he raises one arm to reveal that it had transformed into a sharp steel blade. Another flash, and it was back to normal, Spirit's gaze intense.]

You should be careful. A lady shouldn't be fighting alone.

That sort of skill does not exist in my world. I must say, she looks very young as well. So if she could do that, she has my respect, as do you.

[She lowers her head a bit, as if in respect. That was something amazing to watch.]

I shouldn't, but I need to. It is my responsibility to keep other people from the dangers of my world.

She's too young. A Papa can only do so much, I wasn't able to protect her from all the dangers of our world.

[Enough of that.]

If you know you shouldn't be, allow people to help. I'm willing, as necessary, miss.

If she truly is a strong girl, she shouldn't allow you to worry about her. It is your daughter's job to be strong so you won't have to fret whenever she is away. However, I suppose it would also be nice to have your father watch over you.

[She never needed her father's protection. She worked hard so her father would be proud of her. She needed to be strong for her father to acknowledge her.]

I'm not a Meister like your daughter though. So I doubt I could use you in battle.

[The nod may be predictable, seeing that they've all come here with one of the aforementioned necklace.]

More significantly, the stones may represent something. Have you noticed the color of the stone matches Maka's and my own?

[He doesn't bother displaying it, as he expects he'll be taken at his word. The things this little god takes for granted, goodness.]

Ah well. She doesn't really allow me to, but that hasn't stopped me yet. She's still my little girl. I had no problems taking the dangers of being a Death Scythe on, because it made the world just a little bit dagger for her, you know? [He chuckles quietly.] I sound like an old man.

I wouldn't be so sure. I've never worked with someone who wasn't already a trained meister, but I've never struggled to resonate with someone before.

[He smiles. No. That isn't quite a smile--he's smirking.]

I'd be happy to try with a pretty lady like you.

[He considers this fact for a moment, that they've all the same color pendant.]

It might mean something provided they aren't all blue.

[Spirit tucks the pendant back beneath his shirt and grumbles.]

Just another thing we need more information about.

I don't need him to protect me, he should well know, I've been living independently from him for quite a while now. And I've told him time and time again that I can protect myself, but he still insists on saying stupid things.

[Oops there's Maka butting in.]

I'm sorry about him, he's an idiot.

[Gives a rather taunting smirk.]

If you're talking about who I think you are, I can't say she did much to impress. Still, I'd be careful who you go saying that to. Some might take it as a challenge.

That's not the point! Papas are supposed to protect their daughters! At least let me try!

Damnit, Maka...I'm gonna be gray and mostly bald by forty thanks to you. Geeze.

[Spirit frowns. Not impressed.]

[The frown darkens and he shrugs.]

There are a select few that can match my skill and power. Only two in this place hold such distinctions. You're more than welcome to try, I suppose, but do not be surprised if I break the both of you.

Titles are meaningless. Only fools put stock in such things.

[Wow Spirit hasn't she told you off for this already?]

When you earn the title, it isn't quite as meaningless as you'd suggest.

[A pause, longer than necessary, and Spirit sighs.]

Look. I'm not here to fight you. I haven't been here long but I'm getting the feeling that we have to be working with each other, not against each other.

[Oh this is far too amusing for Kazuya. He's just going to look all smug.]

And if I were to come looking for her?

A title is still simple words. An excuse for complacency and entropy.

The only people I work with are the strong. You sound rather weak, if you ask me.

[Go die in a hole. At the threat to Maka, he visibly bristles. And despite his previously lackadaisical responses to Kazuya, there is a seriousness to his tone that wasn't there before.]

Yes, I saw the masked man, although I am not certain what to make of him yet.

My name is Vyers, although most know me as the Dark Adonis~ I am assuming you just arrived here?

[His teeth close around the tip of a neatly trimmed thumbnail as his gaze grows pensive.]

Hmm... I'll admit, I haven't had much of a chance to investigate the colors of the pendants worn by the others who have communicated with us over their network.

[His attention settles back again on Spirit.]

There is also the matter of how much of the population appears to lack this accessory.

I'll try reading that pamphlet again.
