[The screen starts on, but the area is dark and shadowed as the man using the phone is still working on managing the camera just right. Currently, he has his fingers over the camera.]

Did anyone see that creepy guy with the mask just a few minutes ago? Who said nothing?

Is this thing even on? Oh, there's a green light--

[Finally, fingers move away from the lens to reveal a pale redhead who peered at the phone with the gaze of someone who was still trying to get the image to clear.

He waits, as if expecting another face to appear to respond, like it would during a proper mirror call. Uncertain if that was how this phone worked, he sighed.]

Well, I'm not sure if anyone is watching, but the my name is Spirit Albarn, Death Scythe. And my daughter is here too. If you so much as touch her, I will kill you.

[Spirit's new boss or no, even Kid must mightily resist the juvenile urge to prod Maka with a finger to the shoulder in full view of her father.

If only because she'd cave in his skull with the heaviest book she can find and that smarts.]

As for the masked man, I suppose we could go searching. Between our mobility and Maka's Soul Perception, perhaps we may discover something useful.

[He shrugs slightly, a small frown on his face. Never would he admit that hey, exploring alone comes with risk--sure he can fight alone, but it isn't quite the same as having a meister.]

Have you heard anything about these weird necklaces?

[At this, he fishes a small chain from beneath his collar, a small blue stone dangling from it.]

That thing is a new arrival from my world. Called the Blue Spirit. A fugitive and known outlaw.

I'm not sure I'm so comfortable with leaving him up to you alone, if he's so happy to be a creepy stalker using these phone..things.

[Spirit had started to understand, however vaguely, that not everyone here was from his world. His own soul perception skills were not fantastic, but he could sense that here was different.]

I'm a weapon. A scythe, to be specific, and a Death Scythe to be very specific. Where I come from, some have the ability to have a weapon and a human form. But seeing as weapons don't walk around on their own, we need meisters--people who wield us in our weapon form. Maka is just that: a very skilled meister. Her partner is a scythe as well, hence the title.

[With a small fizzle of light, he raises one arm to reveal that it had transformed into a sharp steel blade. Another flash, and it was back to normal, Spirit's gaze intense.]

You should be careful. A lady shouldn't be fighting alone.

If you're talking about who I think you are, I can't say she did much to impress. Still, I'd be careful who you go saying that to. Some might take it as a challenge.

Don't underestimate her skill.

[The frown darkens and he shrugs.]

There are a select few that can match my skill and power. Only two in this place hold such distinctions. You're more than welcome to try, I suppose, but do not be surprised if I break the both of you.

Titles are meaningless. Only fools put stock in such things.

When you earn the title, it isn't quite as meaningless as you'd suggest.

[A pause, longer than necessary, and Spirit sighs.]

Look. I'm not here to fight you. I haven't been here long but I'm getting the feeling that we have to be working with each other, not against each other.

I did just arrive. Do you prefer Vyers or Dark Adonis? Sounds like a title to me, but if that's your thing, no big deal.

[Spirit glances away from the camera, rubbing the back of his head with a small frown.]

...I almost lost her in the fight in the kishin. A Papa is supposed to protect his child.

[A little while after the battle of the egos, Midboss opens up another audio feed.

He had waited until Laharl had left. After all, he did not want him to overhear this.

It had only been a few days since he found out that his son had more than surpassed him, and in his wounded state that truth had become even more, painfully apparent.

Whether telling Spirit any of this was a good idea or not was anyone's guess, but... considering how protective he seemed over his daughter? He could probably understand.]

...I am not certain my son needs me, anymore.

[Almost immediately, he regretted throwing this out into the open, but it was too late to take the words back, now.]

Kids think they don't need their parents.

[Spirit's spent much of his life hearing Maka say that she doesn't need him or his attention. Though they had been close when she was small, the rift he'd created when seeking affections outside of his marriage had affected his daughter too, and with his divorce came a brutal reality: for years, his beloved daughter wanted nothing to do with him. Nothing.

Nothing in his life had ever made him feel so alone.]

Isn't that the job of every good parent? To raise kids that don't really need us anymore?

[For a relatively happy go lucky manchild, Spirit has more than his fair share of perceptive moments.]

Doesn't mean they don't want us, I don't think.

[It was something Vyers too, had experienced. When his wife died, his young son entirely rejected him out of grief. Even now he had returned and the truth had come to light, their relationship was still strained.]

Perhaps so... Indeed, that was my intention. To help him become a great Overlord and... develop his power.

But his power has long since surpassed mine. He defeated the one foe I never could. I...I am not sure what else I can teach him.

[He sniffed a bit. That news still felt very raw.]
