That's a difficult question. But... I think a friend would be the best foundation for a relationship. If it's someone you know you're compatible with already and have shared a special bond with, it would be logical to assume it's something that would last if you pursued making the bond deeper. As long as you were serious about them, it would be the right decision to pursue your heart.

On the other hand, a rejection could be extremely problematic if you asked and this was one-sided. It could put a damper on any future interactions, potentially ruining them on a permanent level.

Just like any other relationship it would have its positives and negatives. So it's a good idea if your friendship is strong in the first place.

To answer the question. Do they actually like you back first? Because that's probably the first question one should ask themselves before asking this type of question. The second if that is a yes is, are you willing to take that step? Even in this world where people can go home at any time.

If both are yes, then really the answer is obvious.
