Unstoppable force, meet immovable object.
Who: Gamagori, Satsuki, Spirit, Maka
What: Spirit and Maka demonstrate what a Weapon and Miester combo can do.
When: 8/16
Where: Near Genessia Public School
Notes: Some violence
It was a short enough drive, really. It was hard to believe how long it had been since he was last at the football field behind the public school. So much had happened, so much had changed, and he had grown quite a bit, himself.
"We're here," he said, grinning inwardly as he saw the telltale glow that signified Satsuki's presence. "We'll be using this field for our demonstration. I will be your opponent, and I would like you to use your full power, so Satsuki-sama can get a more accurate idea of your capabilities."
He took his place on the field, turning to face Spirit and Maka, Satsuki's glow making his already massive shadow seem even more imposing.

"I'm pleased to meet you, Miss Satsuki. My name is Maka Albarn, Demon Scythe Meister...as for where my Weapon is..." She casts a glance back at her father, unsure of how the battle took a toll on him. "He didn't arrive with us, it's just my dad, me, and my teammate Kid right now. Kid's also a Meister like I am, but very strong."
In truth, though she won't say it to these people, she's actually one of the weaker Meisters out of the menagerie of ridiculous monsters she goes to school with.
"If Soul ever arrives, you'll know it. He'll probably say something rude about me before anything else."

But then her brows furrow, ".. So, just to be clear.. Are you half demon-weapon or whole?" Because otherwise that is one freaky mom. Not that Satsuki has room to talk.
CUTS IN LINE LIKE A BOSS [I'm headed out and didn't wanna be the one to hold things up]
Lecture over
surprise, Spirit both paid attention in school and does actually know things. He bows his head politely to her, and then offers his hand to Satsuki."Spirit Albarn, Death Scythe. It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Satsuki. And I am as much a demon weapon as I am a human. I've never thought much about delineating one from the other. It's as much a part of me as anything else."
no subject
"Me?"
In retrospect, calling it "demon weapon" might be a little confusing.
"I guess...technically I am, since he's my dad," she says with a gesture to Spirit. "But my mom was his Meister, and that's how I ended up--but you're right in asking about it, the Weapon gene is genetic, it's just also recessive. Meisters and Weapons are regular humans, they just happen to have extraordinary abilities that make them different. There's nothing much special about me, actually."
Goddammit Maka this is not the time to be humble.

I see, your clarification is appreciated. Though I wonder, does your weaponized form differ by whomever is wielding you? [Granted it should have been obvious to Satsuki. Despite being a 'weapon', Ryuko is still very much her sister. Thinking about that strikes the Deputy Guardian with a brief pang of guilt, but she carries on as if nothing had happened.
That aside, Satsuki does not express any disapproval toward Maka's humbleness- she saw something much different when they were fighting after all.] I would beg to differ, but what I would like clarified is the purpose of meisters and their weapons. You remind me a bit of a group called Hunters here in Genessia. From what I understand they are trained to defeat monsters at a young age. Is it the same for you?
Wow Spirit shut up so talkative. /cough
Does he look confused? Even Spirit is slightly confused by his own explanation.
"Form manipulation is a skill of most death scythes. But it's more...technique that changes. Lord Death was far more offensive. Stein, though, is just as focused on defense as he is offense. What I can do, and how, changes with the meister."
There is a long pause. "...I'm not good at explaining this. There weren't many weapons in my class who could do this the same way I can."
Spirit glances at Maka, and then sighs. "Weapons and meisters work for Lord Death and the appropriate vested interests around the world. In short, we're an extension of him--taming and collecting corrupted human souls, defeating witches. Maintaining balance, I guess. We're not going after the witches anymore, if Kid has his way."
And I hope he does, Spirit muses with a small smile.
NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR THOUGHTS PAPA
That's about all she can contribute since, shockingly, Spirit actually covered most of it.
"Students come from all over the world and stay in the city while they're going to the Academy. Sometimes they come on their own, sometimes they're discovered and invited for their own safety--Weapons have to learn to control themselves and Meisters temper their abilities. If they have a complementary wavelength that is."
Maka scuffs at the ground with her boot and continues: "The fact that I can use my dad is solely because we're father and daughter, and even then I can't unlock his full potential the way a Meister like Lord Death or Professor Stein would."
Hmm...what else? It would be best to give Satsuki as much information as possible.
"Witches have destructive magic power and the instinct to do so, but they mostly want to be left alone. We were warring with them for over 800 years and have started to settle our differences recently, with the sealing of the Demon God Asura. Those that have corrupted souls become monsters and start to eat 'good' souls, and that's why we have to stop them. Taking the corrupted souls and feeding them to our Weapons is also how we give them more power, souls are like a battery in that regard."
Yes that means she is saying that the man standing next to her has eaten souls before.
"It's the Witch soul that fully forges a Weapon into a Death Scythe, but no more will be forged after the one I made, it wouldn't be fair to the Witches. Hmmm...oh! And Meisters usually serve the purpose of finding souls, since they have a more sensitive sixth sense than other humans, 'Soul Perception' can manifest into physically seeing the soul and sensing its nature for some Meisters, like me and Kid."
no subject
Maka's information proves more insightful; but it's the mention of 'balance' that really sticks with her and causes her to raise a hand to her chin in a thoughtful manner. "So one must enroll into this academy in order to become a pair, with the exception of Spirit who can adjust to any wavelength. All right, then let us suppose that Kid does have his way.. Where does that leave the Meisters and weapons? Would you just move on to normal lives?"
no subject
"If I may, Satsuki-sama, I am curious... what happens if a weapon is used by someone who isn't compatible?"
no subject
Spirit contemplates Satsuki's question, and then shrugs. "Honestly...I have no idea. We've been warring with the witches for as long as anyone can remember. I imagine there will still be corrupted souks, so we won't be obsolete. There just won't be any more Death Scythes."
He didn't feel comfortable mentioning the conversation that he had had with Lord Death about how weapons were, in some ways, incomplete--it carried with it concern about what would happen in the future. That was too much for him.
"Incompatible soul wavelengths?" Spirit pauses, glancing at Gamagori. "It hurts."
no subject
Maka looks down at her hands where long ago she felt Soul was heavy, when he burned her hands...then she remembers Black*Star being unable to lift her partner period and forcing his wavelength, hurting Soul himself.
"Yeah, it hurts. The Weapon feels heavy and it burns your hands. For the Weapon, too, they might feel burning with being held by someone with an incompatible wavelength."
no subject
"I see, that does make sense. I am afraid I have little idea where you would trace corrupted souls in this place. Everglade may be a possibility though I confess in all my time here I still have yet to explore that area- it is a mere guess."
no subject
Everglade...she was told to avoid that place. All sorts of inhuman beings lived there, from what she understands, but if it's been brought up to her twice it may be worth exploring.
"In the same token, I don't know how useful I'll be to any of your causes, but if you need help I'll do the best I can, Miss Satsuki."
no subject
There's something about the way he says this, firm but understanding. His mind is on the times he'd had to say the same thing to Stein--over. Over and over and over. Lord Death is the god of order and we are tasked with upholding that order. His order. Not ours.
Blue eyes darted to Maka as she mentioned being unable to help. If he didn't think he'd be on the receiving end of a painfully familiar Maka-chop, he would say something. Yet in the same token, he felt rather similarly. He can't do much without a meister, after all.
"Wherever and however I can help, please let me know."
no subject
That said, Satsuki enjoys the company of those who wish to cooperate with her. "Everyone within Genessia has some way or another to aide my cause. It is a simple one, but made of various and sometimes complicated steps. This, of course, is discovering a way home."
"The first part of the plan involves the Academy in which I am building, in which the end goal is getting as many of us working together as possible. While I may not have a means of making use of your combat skills at this particular time, recent events have shown me they will be invaluable in the future. In the meantime, I would like you both to consider enrolling and becoming a student and teacher."
no subject
It was good to feel useful again, and even better to be working toward Satsuki's goals again. Overall, today had been a rather fruitful day.
no subject
At the offer of Spirit being a teacher, though, she looks up at him and lids her eyes suspiciously.
"Mm...keep a close eye on Papa around any female staff, though. He's a womanizer."
At least she...didn't suggest that he would harass underage students.
no subject
And then Maka snapped something about other staff and he felt... He wasn't quite sure how he felt. Obligated. Obligated to prove her wrong? He wasn't sure.
He doesn't turn to glance at her, and instead clears his throat nervously. It had been an attempt to sound confident: one he knew had already failed miserably.
"It's something to keep in mind. I don't know that there's much I can teach, though."
no subject
"That aside, I shan't force you into a position you are not comfortable with. The idea is, technically, still under construction, though there may be another form of work I can find for you if you haven't done so by it's opening."
"On the subject of keeping things in mind, there is one more thing I am curious about." she adds, "You say you can adjust your wavelength to anyone? I would like an opportunity to try wielding you sometime, Spirit."
no subject
"As head of Honnouji Academy's Disciplinary Committee, I assure you, I will be monitoring the behavior of all faculty to maintain a proper level of conduct among all faculty."
And students too, but that's not the issue at the moment and decides to leave that out.
no subject
He simply nods at Gamagori, frowning slightly, before addressing Satsuki directly.
"The honor would be mine, Miss Satsuki." And he isn't trying to flirt; there was a sense of distinction that he felt from her, a sort of dignity. "Though Maka did make a point before that thoughgh I have with those who are not meisters, they were still associates of the Academy. We would have to be very careful. 'It hurts' is a gentle way to describe meister-weapon pairs that are unsuccesful."
He pauses. Though the skill of working with anyone was one he is white proud of, it always came with unique challenges, not the least of which being making the decision itself, followed by the first moments if resonance and the generally intense discomfort that came with it. A people person he may be, but Spirit's unadulterated soul wavelength didn't automatically work with everyone.
"I am unable to see souls. That final judgment belongs to Maka."
no subject
Again...someone wants to wield her father. This shouldn't be worrying to her, it's just how her dad is--always flitting from one connection to the next and leaving her behind. If the demonstration showed anything, it's better that they're separate, she matured past needing a father a long time ago. But Maka doesn't know any of the people here, she doesn't know if they'll hurt or abuse her family and friends, it worries her.
"If anybody can adjust their wavelength to suit a non-Meister, it'd be Papa definitely, but...no offense meant to you, Miss Satsuki, I don't know you or if I can trust you with him. So I'd rather scan the soul of everyone first--the fact that I did it to Mr. Gamagori in battle was...habit, if you don't keep an eye on the soul of your target at all times you'll be killed." Grim things to say, certainly, but they're true and Maka has the feeling it's not a concept so shocking to this unusual pair. "And like he said, even if he can adjust his wavelength, he can't stretch himself so thin that he totally loses control, so I'd need to see the nature of your soul too. I guess you can say in that, I'm his gatekeeper."
Ironic since Spirit tries desperately to be the gatekeeper for her against (imagined by his paranoid fatherly instincts) suitors.
no subject
God forbid someone ask to wear Ryuko.
"No offense is taken, Maka, but I do have a question about the process you have mentioned." She doesn't appear to be shaken by the concept; she's arguably had worse invasions from certain Satori, but meddling with souls? "How does scanning souls reveal if one is trustworthy or not?"
no subject
She gestures at Gamagori, using him as an example.
"Mr. Gamagori here, his soul tells me that he's dedicated to his duty and the protection of the people important to him. Heavily shielded, but pretty caring underneath. While I'd trust him with wielding my dad, since he doesn't have a bad soul, they probably wouldn't resonate well since he'd rather take the shield approach and Papa needs offensive and defensive styles in order to really work. That's kinda the point of a weapon, after all."
Yes, Maka did just casually expound about Gamagori's nature in addition to how disastrous it would be if Spirit was partnered with him.
"I can just...I don't know." The girl thumps herself in the chest, right at her heart. "Feel it."
no subject
She glances briefly to Gamagori, then back to the young girl- while she is impressed, she appears rather neutral. "Interesting. I am not particularly fond of the procedure, but I do admit I am interested in hearing your analysis of my soul. Fine then- I propose that exploring Everglade,in the near future, may be a good opportunity to try things out."
Sorry for the delay...mind was elsewhere
