[ Regan is using her device today to introduce herself to the town at large and she looks a lot better than she did before. For starters, her clothing is new and her hair is tied back in two semi messy French braids. And she’s in a bedroom that’s starting to show signs of a young girl living in it. To her left on the desk she’s propped her device on, a white board and colorful erasable markers. To the right? A pile of cochlear devices. She picks up the whiteboard and scribbles out a message for all to read. ]

Hi! My name is Regan. I’ve only been in town for a couple weeks and I have a question.

[ Erasing that message, she writes a newer and slightly longer second one. ]

I was born deaf, so I use American Sign Language to communicate. Back home, I had a lot of people in my life who understood it and could communicate back. But here? I don’t have as many. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in learning so that I had more people I could talk to?

[ Its really not a bad idea, honestly. She gives people time to read that one and then writes again. ]

I also need a job. I have no idea what I could do or anything done I haven’t had a job before. So if anyone has anything a deaf thirteen year old might enjoy, please let me know. Thanks.

Good morning Regan. I for one would love to learn sign language, if we've both time enough. I'm American too, so it ought to go smoothly. As for work, if you insist working so young, a woman named Orihime runs a shop called "Cake Town." If I recall correctly, she's still hiring for a floral arranger, which seems light on talking to or fro.

[The first thing he'd like to teach is how to use the texting on the device. The markers were fun, but looked exhausting.]

[ Instead of writing back in text, it's a far more logical route to simply communicate in a preferred method, signing back with incredibly practiced hands. American Sign Language comes as a language feature pre-loaded in most androids, though he probably will be coming off a lot more mechanical than the others might have. ]

Hello Regan. My name is Connor. I'm sorry there aren't more people familiar with your communication method. I've been told I'm not the best conversationalist but I'd be happy to chat.

There is a university here. Perhaps you could combine teaching people the language and employment by holding a class for sign language. There would be no age-restriction or prior employment experience necessary for teaching something you are an expert in.

[Kirika sets up her phone far enough so from her torso and up are visible. She knows various of languages, American Sign Language is one of them. She starts moving her hand and well, 'talk' to her. Don't mind the deadpan girl.]

'Hi. There is someone else here who knows Sign Language and myself. The person has some kind of special gloves which speaks what you say like this, if that helps.'

[ Emma's out (obviously) but she still saw the message and she texts Regan a couple minutes later. ]

You know you don't HAVE to get a job, right kiddo? I know the whole public school thing isn't really gonna be in your wheelhouse and I get that, and I get wanting to earn some of your own spending money, but it's not a HAVE to.

I'd love to learn! I'm not a great student though, so I hope you won't mind if I ask the Doctor to give me extra help.

We could probably hire you at Torchwood, yeah? You should still go to school, but if you wouldn't mind being both test subject and helping us refine our work, we do need specialized help with that.

I would be quite interested in learning. I know a little of British Sign Language, but none of American, and would be quite curious to know how to sign.

As far as employment, if you are only thirteen, you might wish to enroll in one of the schools here, instead. I teach at the one in Attleton and can recommend it as a fine place to learn.

[It's been a really long time, but when he sees the kid on the network, and the cochlear devices at her side, he's more than a little enchanted by the industrious kid.

So instead of a text, he starts a video, props up his device, and takes a second to think before he begins to sign, hesitant and a little clumsy.]

Hi! My name is Derek. [He pauses to spell out his name, then shows her his name sign: the sign for 'wolf,' ending with a letter D.] Do you read lips? I know some sign language, but not much. I'd love to learn more, and I promise I'm a quick study.

Hello. My name is Neito Monoma, and I would be willing to learn. I tend to learn things quickly.

[His powers involve copying the abilities of others for a short time, after all. He has to learn how to control them.]

Hi Regan. I'm Eli.

[ He wishes he could write for her but writing is as much of a problem as reading. So he does his best between texting and speaking. ]

I don't know how to sign but I'd love to learn.

[ He thinks it might help, since reading faces and bodies is easier for him than words. ]

You might be able to teach a small ASL class at the Red House. It's a home for kids. And we have the space for it.
