[ Regan is using her device today to introduce herself to the town at large and she looks a lot better than she did before. For starters, her clothing is new and her hair is tied back in two semi messy French braids. And she’s in a bedroom that’s starting to show signs of a young girl living in it. To her left on the desk she’s propped her device on, a white board and colorful erasable markers. To the right? A pile of cochlear devices. She picks up the whiteboard and scribbles out a message for all to read. ]
Hi! My name is Regan. I’ve only been in town for a couple weeks and I have a question.
[ Erasing that message, she writes a newer and slightly longer second one. ]
I was born deaf, so I use American Sign Language to communicate. Back home, I had a lot of people in my life who understood it and could communicate back. But here? I don’t have as many. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in learning so that I had more people I could talk to?
[ Its really not a bad idea, honestly. She gives people time to read that one and then writes again. ]
I also need a job. I have no idea what I could do or anything done I haven’t had a job before. So if anyone has anything a deaf thirteen year old might enjoy, please let me know. Thanks.

[The first thing he'd like to teach is how to use the texting on the device. The markers were fun, but looked exhausting.]
Re: [Text]
[ She probably does know how to text, but she's also used to the idea that she put emotions behind the words, hence the whiteboard and video. Not to mention, sometimes lipreading is quicker for her. ]
I'd love to teach you. We can work out where and when easily, I'm sure.
Re: [Text]
[She's also probably a pushover and the last person in the world who'd mark off for professionalism.]
For parity I'd love to learn. I work freelance and have a liberal schedule.

Hello Regan. My name is Connor. I'm sorry there aren't more people familiar with your communication method. I've been told I'm not the best conversationalist but I'd be happy to chat.
There is a university here. Perhaps you could combine teaching people the language and employment by holding a class for sign language. There would be no age-restriction or prior employment experience necessary for teaching something you are an expert in.
Re: video;
Hi, Connor. I think I'm going to enjoy talking to you. You're very clear. Are you deaf, too? Or do you just know ASL? ]
[ Teach at the university? Regan, thirteen year old kid that she is, thinks that'd be a great idea if it didn't make her a bit visibly nervous. ]
I thought that to be a teacher, you had to have a stack of certifications and degrees?
video;
Certifications and degrees are usually required in a professional environment and highly recommended outside of one. But with our current circumstances, employers can not prove legitimacy of any certifications or degrees since they would have been acquired elsewhere. They are overlooked in favor of demonstrations of skill and character. You certainly have those.
[ She is pretty young though. The slight displays of nervousness aren't overlooked. ]
You could start with small tutoring sessions, if an entire classroom seems daunting.

'Hi. There is someone else here who knows Sign Language and myself. The person has some kind of special gloves which speaks what you say like this, if that helps.'

"They're pretty cool gloves."
Totally bragging, because it's the truth! ]
video.
Can you do that again? I want to hear the gloves voice. ]

Re: video.
(no subject)
Re: video.
[ But then her world was full of monsters who hunted by sound. Those gloves would probably be a terrible idea, in that situation. ]

You know you don't HAVE to get a job, right kiddo? I know the whole public school thing isn't really gonna be in your wheelhouse and I get that, and I get wanting to earn some of your own spending money, but it's not a HAVE to.
Re: text;
I know. I want to be useful. Someone said I could teach ASL at the university. What do you think?
Re: text;
[ Be a kid, kiddo! Don't try to be 13 going on 30! ]
What's something you like to do? For fun I mean. What are some things you're interested in?

Video + Text!!!
We could probably hire you at Torchwood, yeah? You should still go to school, but if you wouldn't mind being both test subject and helping us refine our work, we do need specialized help with that.
Re: Video + Text!!!
[ She's not so sure about this, but she trusts and likes Rose and The Doctor. So it can't be terrible, right? It's nothing that'd hurt her. She's sure of it. ]
Re: Video + Text!!!
But I need more free time. Both Doctors and Jack get on my case about working too hard.
And we need someone to help run interference with L3 and act as a liaison for androids.
And we need someone to test and promote things like cell phone apps for speech to text or games. And Vitex. I wish my Dad was here for that. Ah that might be a little out of your expertise, but we need someone who can help taste weird flavors to decide if it's any good.
Video + Text!!! (AAAAAAA SAD ICON BY ACCIDENT I AM SORRY)
Video + Text!!! (NAH IT'S CUTE)
Re: Video + Text!!! (i love this cr. oh my god.)

As far as employment, if you are only thirteen, you might wish to enroll in one of the schools here, instead. I teach at the one in Attleton and can recommend it as a fine place to learn.

So instead of a text, he starts a video, props up his device, and takes a second to think before he begins to sign, hesitant and a little clumsy.]
Hi! My name is Derek. [He pauses to spell out his name, then shows her his name sign: the sign for 'wolf,' ending with a letter D.] Do you read lips? I know some sign language, but not much. I'd love to learn more, and I promise I'm a quick study.
Re: ;video
Hi, Derek. Is Wolf your last name?
[ It's possible. She hasn't quite enough info to put together that 'wolf' = Derek in any way. Once she does, she'll be amazed. ]
I can absolutely teach you. You have to promise to be patient with me, because I've never taught anyone.

[His powers involve copying the abilities of others for a short time, after all. He has to learn how to control them.]
Re: Text
Hello, Neito! Thank you for replying. I'm glad you want to learn. I'm looking forward to teaching you.
I'm pretty surprised how many people want to learn, honestly.

[ He wishes he could write for her but writing is as much of a problem as reading. So he does his best between texting and speaking. ]
I don't know how to sign but I'd love to learn.
[ He thinks it might help, since reading faces and bodies is easier for him than words. ]
You might be able to teach a small ASL class at the Red House. It's a home for kids. And we have the space for it.
