Operation 36 | [Mingle Action]

Following the recent spooky happenings in Everglade and Fayren, people could use some time to wind down and cool off after the fact. Knowing this, Gale sent out a mass invite to come by Hangar Queen for a day of mingling. He's waving the cost of food and drink for the day (given what he makes, he can take the financial hit), so people can just relax and have a good time. A special note is made to remind people that all ages are permitted and alcoholic and non-alcholic drinks are available, with alcohol available for ages 16 and over. Just don't cause any trouble and Gale will see no reason to throw anyone out. The club's mascot is even there for pictures! So why not swing by, even if for a short while? There's nothing to lose. Except your time.

Just be prepared to hear Danger Zone played a lot. It's a moral obligation for this club. Sorry (not sorry).

[Vaggie's hands nervously rotate the drink for a moment as she eyes the girl a little more intently. Why would anyone want to talk to her--well, that thought wasn't going anywhere. The point is she was and she was going to expect a response...]

[She'll try to wing it.]

Yeah... a lot of people got hurt and an idiot was responsible... I'd like to shove an experiment right up their ass...

So are you, like, doing rounds? Meeting everyone around here...?

[No good. She couldn't keep herself from wondering 'why are you talking to me?']

Yes, that person gave more than their fair share of heartaches and pains. I'm not much of an asskicker but I sure won't stop the people who are.

I suppose so, yeah. See, that nightmare also served to remind me that I've been throwing away my social life for no good reason, and I need to meet new people!

[ That wasn't the whole truth, but it was truth enough to count. ]

And you thought that the person you'd do this with was a girl sitting in the corner of a bar with an eye-patch by herself?

I don't know whether to think your strange or admire your inclusiveness.

Wait, no, I thought about it. Its both.

[Okay, that was... unfriendly, even to her.]

[ Konoka would berate herself from taking something from Ted's notebook, but she has to learn to talk to all kinds of people, not just the easily approached ones!

With the most chipper smile though she sat down next to her. ]

What's your name?

[She really did it, huh? Well, it was no skin off her nose, and she'll go back to nursing her La Paloma. She swirls it back and forth with a twinge of anticipation, as she's not used to Konoka's company yet.]

Vaggie.

[Swirl swirl.] How long have you been here? [Swirl.] Has this place been attacked like this before? [Swirl swirl swirl.]

My name is Konoka Konoe. I've been here for... mmmmm, three years now!

[ She looked thoughtful for a moment. Though she spoke well, she also didn't bother rushing with her words. ]

Well, attacks do happen, but... I don't think it's ever been from the same source, and I haven't seen nightmares like that before. Most times there are attacks, they're usually nowhere near as terrifying. And I don't think we've ever seen any building damage, so.

Lucky me. Glad to see that I showed up in time for things to go to shit. [She brought her drink back for a drink.]

Still... three years? Damn, that's a long time to be held captive...

Pretty bad luck, huh? [ Konoka could drink against that, so she does. ] Sometimes though, all you can do is keep hanging on. [ Those words sound… heavy coming from her, but her easygoing look never disappears, and lightens up a moment later as if it had never left. ]

But there’s a lot of festivals and stuff. And people have all kinds of interesting businesses and training, so at least you’ll never be bored—and you’ll be better prepared for next time.

Hmm... [Festivals? Nah... she never really liked the noise and all the people.]

Its not that I wasn't prepared... were it anything but what I feared I would have been fine.

Guess it makes sense you'd be used to it. You're used to this kind of crazy.

[Her kind of crazy was... different. Intense, and less likely to back away.] All a newbie can do is just grab hold and try to catch up.

Whether or not you feel lost, there are always people here to lend a helping hand.

[ Konoka learned that too, with others who helped her and figured out how to eventually gain the bravery she needed to fight the monster. ]

I suppose I am.

Hmm...

...I never asked for help.

[There was guilt in the woman's words.]

Fuck, I need another drink...

A lot of people don't realize they need the help until after they get it.

...happened to me too.

[ She already thanked Ted back then, but was still debating thanking him a second time. ]

Sure... let's go with that...

[She's not arrogant enough to think that she would do better with help, she just doesn't DESERVE help...]

[ Konoka got the feeling that there were more complicated reasons behind that, but it wasn't her place to pry. Instead, she simply laughed lightly and took a bigger drink.

...which might be a good point of discussion, now that she was thinking about it. ]

What did you pick to drink? I have a bit of a sweet tooth when it comes to alcohol but it might be a good time to expand my horizons while it's free.

[That was enough to get her out of that funk.]

Oh, uh... its called a La Paloma. Its tequila mixed with grapefruit soda and lime juice.

Its not really the drink you'd want to have if you like sweet. In fact its pretty sour. Some find it refreshing...

Can't hurt to try that anyway, right?

[ Konoka in fact, orders a sampler of it. When it comes a few minutes later, she tries it. The flavor came pretty strong. ]

Woo! That's something... You did warn me, but I had to experience it for myself!

[Vaggie chuckled inwardly. Despite that her outer tone was still dispassionately flat.]

Just how drunk are you?

I'm... tipsy I guess?

[ She's not plastered, and she still has enough self control to evade it, but the blush on her cheeks tells that this was probably far from her first drink. ]

Uh-huh.

[Her eye quickly scans the ground and looks for a stretch of floor that has a straight line.]

I doubt you can take five steps on that.

[Secretly, a part of her wanted to see her fall on her butt.]

Is that so?

[ Konoka wasn't easily baited into a challenge, but in an impish mood, she decided to answer anyway. Konoka hopped off her seat, scampered over to a straight line (it was the one Vaggie was looking at, right?) and began to take one apparently shaky step in front of the other. ]

Ah, geez. Balance is...

...shit. [Vaggie finished her sentence, taking a sip for her La Paloma.]

Alright, party girl. Get over here and take a seat. I think you've had enough for one night.

[ Konoka was not having that difficult a time in keeping her balance, but after her fourth step, she relented and meandered back to her seat. ]

Awww... I was so close.

Good for you. [In a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, Vaggie smirked ever so slightly as Konoka walked up. She did give it a good shot and almost succeeded. So she really wasn't as soused as Vaggie expected. The smirk doesn't last before she returned to the usual, morose, face.]

I ordered you a consolation prize. [She reaches over to the bartender and places her hand on a tall glass of a milky water substance. She extends it to Konoka.]

Drink it, you'll feel better later.

[It was c coconut water! A little something to drink to prevent a hangover.]

Oh, okay.

[ Konoka sampled the milky stuff before drinking in earnest. Tasted weird, but nothing dangerous, so she'll take Vaggie's word for it. ]

Huh, thanks!

Yeah yeah.

[She nurses her La Paloma again, drifting her eye away Konoka.]

Well, consider your social mission a success. You've done what you set out to do. Feel free to go save some other socially awkward person when you feel like it. Don't worry. I won't take offense.
