Hallo! [Waggles fingers at the screen in a wave.] I'm Rose Tyler and I run Torchwood here, pretty much de facto. Long story. Anyway... We are hiring for just about anything, depending on your interests! But I'm stopping all investigations into the void beyond the barriers, [Holds up a finger.] Unless you want to go back to your own time. Because I've had like... [Mentally counting and holds up her hand.] Five scientists, engineers, best friends, and even lovers, [She might be a touch tipsy to say that last part. Then again, this is the girl who got arrested for sex on a carousel after hours, so maybe not!] all disappear pretty much the second they started their own investigations on it. And maybe it's coincidence. But five? Isn't that a lot? You only need three for a pattern. Bluh. BUT If you DO want to go back to your time, I'll give you all of the Doctors' data that is left behind and the sensors and the analyzers and maybe even your own lab, because I've got like... three now that are doing nothing. It's terrible. I even have a TARDIS of my own?

Yeahhhhhhhhh. So you know. I'm still running the company and all, but I'm taking a mini-half-sort-of-semi-vacation to work more on Uni and bass and band and OH! OH!!! You should all sign up to join the Professor's music contest, okay? It'll be really fun, really great for your image, and you might win a lotta red bills, yeah? No Losing. Okay! See ya around!

Oh. I mean, sometimes we'd stop at interesting islands and take a break. But there was usually a goal behind it. It wasn't bad, though. We had a lot of fun no matter where we went. That's the kind of family we had. We were always pretty happy together. So we didn't need to take vacations. We kinda made our own whenever we had some spare time.

[Ace nods.] Then it's just you and me. We'll have fun with it, we'll get popcorn and snacks and get drunk. It'll be amazing. What kinda booze do you like?

Sounds fun! Like me and -- I know I namedrop him a lot, but -- [Giggles!] I can't help it! When I was on my own, I was too busy! I always had a mission or something. But when it was just me and the Doctor every day was a vacation, pretty much. And even when we had Jack, we made all our missions vacations too!

Ehhhh depends on what I'm drinking for. I've just been downing vodka since it's fastest. I like whiskey sours, but I'm not really a -- drink for the taste or party type, like my boyfriends. Jack never had me try a hypervodka, but usually we'd just drink vodka um, on times like this, yeah? If you think I've had a wild life, that's nothing on Jack. [Giggles.] You'd love him. You're a lot alike. Except he's probably a bit more -- [Assassin. Murderous. Dangerous? No. What's the word she wants here... Definitely not "ancient" no matter how true. Ah. She knows.] Secretive. [Even though that's only partially true. She knows Jack's secrets really well, but enough to know that they are also quite secret. Time Agents and all. Meanwhile, Rose has no idea how secretive Ace is or not. Maybe he's like Jack, and only open with her.]

[A head shake.] Not secretive. Masked? He used to work for an organization that had him go through like... 80 disguises or something ridiculous. Torchwood too, even if I would never have him do that here, obviously. Hum... he's part of why I wanted it set up here, yeah? Because... [Distant look!] I couldn't be there for him in his universe, and it's not really the same in Pete's Universe. I think. [Ugh. Heart. Ache. Let's focus on movie. They should find the trashiest dumbest MOST HILARIOUS movie possible.] So. Vodka. I'll get the drinks, you can be in charge of popcorn. Unless you need me to grab that too, because I MEAN I am pretty much the only CEO right now. So I have redbills. And even if I didn't. The Doctor does. Which is a first and only for him. He's usually a completely broke hobo.

We really had fun. All of my brothers and I had a good time no matter where we ended up. The best part of those islands was trying new foods, and seeing stuff that didn't exist anywhere else we'd been. So maybe just being a pirate was like a year round vacation. With some hard work thrown in here and there.

[Ace listens to the talk about Jack, he can't imagine liking someone who's secretive. It's hard enough to find anyone trustworthy to waste time with. But if he drinks, and enables bad behavior he might just be someone that Ace ends up liking. If he ever meets him, that is. For now, Ace is content to just move on and not bring him up further.]

Okay. So you get the vodka, that's good. [Not his favorite booze but he's not going to argue with it.] I can get it. I've got some pocket money. I'm good for it. Anything else we need?

Sounds like a blast! That's always been my favorite part of world travelin' too! I mean... most people don't really go in for it. You get gravy slushies in the year 9 billion, or whatever, and awful blue peppery chips on another planet, and just straight up brown or blue sauce served by an ood, and to pretty much everyone it's just bare essential vitamin sustenance to stay alive. But that's why I have Dad's Vitex here and made Fluffy work on plasma flavors. 'Cause everything can be so much more than just the bare minimum it takes to survive, right? Surviving isn't a big neat trick. But really enjoying everything? That's the important thing. At least to me.

Nope! Just bring yourself and we'll have fun!

If you don't throw yourself into everything you do, you're wasting your life. No one knows how long they're gonna live. [Ace is quiet suddenly. He adores Rose, and he's not exactly secretive about his death to people he knows, but it's still something that's painful to think about. Something that drags him into nightmares, leaves him panicking. So the start of telling her falls quickly.] Like I said, you never know. So if you can live every day like it's your last, you're doing better than most people would. And eating shitty food and trying dumb stuff is part of that, even if you know you won't like it. It's part of really living. [Ace nods.] I wanna enjoy every part of this life. I want to be so happy that I don't know what to do with myself.

Got it. Where do you want to meet up?

Good plan.

[Yeah, see? 100% like Jack. She recognizes it, even if she isn't consciously analyzing it to put it down to "has died and come back from that" the way only the most important people in her life have.]

I'm in Attleton, but I'll go to any theater you like. I've got no idea what's playing in any of them. But I expect Nova will be a bit more robots and death rays and sci-fi. Genessia might still be digging westerns. They can say it's a coincidence after that recent portal thing, but I'm seriously not sure how much I believe in coincidence anymore.

I'm good with Attleton, it sounds like it's got the biggest chance of something surprising. Want me to head over there now?

Sure! I'll ride my skateboard! Since it's not far enough to need my motorcycle.

Got it. On my way. It'll take me a little longer, but I'm still gonna get there fast.

[And with that, he gets as properly dressed as he ever gets, and heads out and to the theater.]

Boss. I'll go see what's playing, but I'll wait for you for final decision.

Boss? I've been a division commander, but never a boss. [He assumes she didn't mean it in a literal sense, and he laughs as he ends the video.

Ace arrives in Attelton relatively quickly, all things considered. He'd expected the trip to take longer. But once there, he makes his way to the theater.]

Slang. Means excellent or fantastic.

[All ready and raring to go, and with a purse full of booze. She actually did bring Ace rum, because he's a pirate, and the space pirates were also pretty big on rum being better than vodka.]

Any idea what you're in the mood for movie-wise?

[Ace grins, and waves excitedly when he sees her.] I dunno, something dumb and funny is always good. But it's whatever you want tonight. [He'll be so happy when he finds out she got him rum.]

[That will make her twice as happy. She was worried it was stereotyping, but she meant well with it!!!]

Dumb and funny is exactly what I'm in the mood for.

[They're totally going to watch the Emoji movie but a Doctor Who-One Piece mashup version because this is Genessia and I haven't seen the Emoji movie anyway.]

[There will still be talking poop however, because One Piece.]

[If stereotyping gets him rum he'll even dress up like a storybook or movie pirate. Marco would make one hell of a parrot too.

Let's get to it. If I give you some red bills will you go get tickets? I'll grab the popcorn while you do.

Sure, but you don't gotta do that. I'm basically sole owner of Torchwood right now, and it's kind of... harder to direct funding to projects without the Doctor. And I've got like... music royalties from the Professor... Point is, let me just take care of it, okay? It's something I could never do back in the universe I was born in. [Winks. Well, she DID always cover the Doctor back then, but still.]

[Ace should also totally dress up as a stereotypical pirate, Rose will run a theme restaurant, and Marco would get a huge kick out of surprising the tourists. In deadpan.

You sure? [He nods after a moment. He knows that sometimes it just feels good to be able to be the one to pay for something or take care of an issue. It gives a feeling of power and also a warmth too. So he won't argue.] I'll go in and grab the popcorn.

[Ace ends up with a couple of massive buckets of popcorn, and some sweets that he ends up shoving into pockets haphazardly. And balancing the buckets in his arms, he waits for Rose to get to him.

[Jogs up and hands him the ticket stub.]

'Ere, I'll give you the rest inside. [Gestures with a finger over her lips and whispers.] You're not supposed to sneak in booze. Oops!

[But as they settle in, she hands him the rum with a wink.] Cheers, ta!

[Ace grabs the stub, grins, and nods about the sneaking in business. He knows you gotta be secretive sometimes! But once they're settled in, and he's got his rum, he hands over her popcorn.] Thanks. [Ace looks up at the screen with a bit of amazement.] I've seen movies before, but never anything in a theater. It's huge!
