[ It's impossible to tell what's going on at first - the video feed seems to be whirling about rapidly, the audio picking up nothing but the sound of rushing air. The motion stops briefly as a hand darts into view, only to begin the process anew - anyone sharp enough to figure it out will realize the person on the other end is literally tossing their video phone up into the air repeatedly, catching it just to toss it again. It's after about thirty seconds of this that it finally stops entirely, giving a view of nothing but a pair of boots... boots which seem to have some weapon-like attachments.

A long, melodramatic sigh... ]

Well! This is a pain, isn't it.

[ A brief flip of the videophone reveals Mercury's face, wearing a relatively unfazed smirk. ]

Don't waste your breath explaining what's going on - I've done my homework. I guess all I have to say is that you can call me Mercury, and... let's all get along, mmkay?

[ There's a widening of his smirk into a grin, and it's hard to tell whether he's being mocking or genuine in his greeting. ]

--Ah, and if I'm not mistaken, I think I even sort of know some of you. Lucky me! Us trainees gotta stick together.

[ Both because Ruby literally knocked herself to the floor, and because Emerald was the one she crashed into. Emerald's suffering always brought a touch of mirth to his heart. ]

[She's still.... iffy about that. She doesn't want to come off as better than everyone else or something along the lines just because Ozpin allowed her to come earlier.]

[ H u h. This was someone to keep tabs on, then. Beacon didn't make many exceptions of that sort from what he gathered, so she must be something interesting. ]

Should I feel intimidated?

There's plenty of other amazing people around, after all.

Well... I got in a fight with Torchwick and his cronies and the headmaster and Professor Goodwitch caught me.

I bet Torchwick probably felt pretty ashamed to get beaten by someone so young!

Maybe. I still think I almost had him.

He's got enough bite, but I feel like I can still fight him easily enough.

Hopefully, you won't have to find out. I'm sure the proper authorities will actually start doing their job and catch him eventually.

I guess we don't have to worry about him here, but I've heard there's other issues. Granted, I doubt there's any place... or world... that doesn't have their own problems.

[Ruby can only shrug to that. The vigilante justice bit is questionable, but as long as he wasn't causing trouble to those people who didn't deserve it? It was hard to really have a standpoint when she barely knew him.]

Of course that changes if he's putting innocent people in harm's way at the time! A Huntsman's duty is to protect others, after all, even if we are still in training.

No, not really. I just got here not too long ago.

From the sound of things, some people have been here quite a while. Doesn't exactly make the idea of breaking free sound too promising.
