The many helpful responses Luke gets:

"Who wants to know?"
"Whaddo I look like, yer mommy?"
"Nope."
"...Do I know you?"
"Ain't you never been to Nova City before? Cripes, kid. Use a search engine. Use a phone book. Amscray."
"It isn't safe to talk here. Meet me by the space docks, at midnight."

Luke takes the information he gets--or rather, the lack of information--with a grain of salt. Nobody seems keen on talking with him.

Ultimately, he goes back to Satsuki with a little frown.

"The only thing anyone said to me was that it's not good to talk here, and that we should meet to talk at the space docks. At midnight."

The boy ponders this for a moment, tilting his head with a little frown. "Nobody wants to talk with you though, Miss Kiryuin. I think I might have to go alone."

Poor Luke.

As for his suggestion, the look that Satsuki gives him might very well strike a taste of fear in his heart. Her eyes narrow with a cold gaze fixed upon him, her frown bigger than he had ever seen it before. "You will do nothing of the sort, Triton."

She then glances to the side. "I find that bit of information troubling, but if it is a legitimate lead, we will approach it in a different manner." Thankfully she has access to a double-agent. "I believe this is all we will be able to collect for now in Nova City until Midnight since we are at a disadvantage. Shall we investigate another district?"

Is he looking like he's going to follow those instructions? Luke can be an appropriately defiant little kid at times, though it isn't commonplace behavior for him.

"Maybe someone can come too. That's the only person that wants to tell us anything at all! And if someone else goes then they'll know that I told someone, and then they won't talk at all."

He crosses his arms. "Besides, it's important that people don't think that we're trying to trick them. Then nobody will tell us anything."

Do you get the point, Satsuki? Luke is basically telling you that he's going. He's just asking you to find a way to approve of this behavior. ~~Not that it matters because if you don't he's totally going anyway~~

Hmn.

It would appear that Satsuki hasn't made it very clear what their relationship is supposed to be like. Perhaps she shouldn't be surprised by his defiance, but obviously she doesn't like it.

"Do not make me repeat myself, Triton. Show patience; continue do as I say and you will one day have your moment. Tonight is not that time."

There's a moment of silence that follows, then, "Let us get going. I will need to stop by the apartment to make a call."

And so Satsuki contacted Mamizou with the intent to make use of her special ability. The plan is a simple one; for the tanuki to meet the stranger at the Space Docks at midnight, disguised as Luke, and obtain the information that was promised. Of course there is the possibility it is a dead-end or a trap, and she is certain to warn her associate as such.

Judging by Mamizou's performance during the Genessia disaster, she should be just fine.

Against her better judgement, she didn't place a bug or tracer on the tanuki, and at first resided with Luke at the Guardian HQ to await the results of the investigation. Unfortunately a situation that needed immediate law intervention came up at about 11:30p which had forced her to leave the premises and only has Luke's word that he will not budge.

Though who knows, maybe he'll pass out by then anyway.

And it seemed the woman was more then happy to play her part. It was a pleasure to finally get a chance to use her ability for something like this. Though she hardly knew all the details, she got as much info as she could as she prepared for her performance.

While a small part of her didn't like imitating someone she hadn't had any time to study, it seemed likely the informant she was supposed to meet wouldn't know the difference. All the little mannerisms wouldn't be right, but she'd insisted on at least getting a voice sample so she could at least get that right.

With all the preparations complete, and Satsuki having to tend to another bit of business, the woman in the form of a young boy makes her way to the meeting place presumably all on her own. She makes no effort to conceal herself. How else would the mysterious stranger find her if she was hidden?

Under the cover of a leaving spaceship, out walked her contact. It was yet another shadowy man in a trench coat, using the night to obscure his person. He cleared his throat, though if one paid attention, his movements seemed jerky and unnatural. Luckily, the one he planned to meet was under a lamplight, and he had no trouble seeing "Luke". He did have some trouble about his coming alone, though.

"You're here by yourself. I had hoped you might come with one stronger than a child, but as the saying goes, 'beggars can't be choosers.'"

He looked around, making sure there weren't others. "Did you bring the credit card, belonging to one 'Morgan I. Taylor'? It is his. Er, mine."

Inwardly, the tanuki can't help but feel amused at this man's choice of words. He'd hoped for someone more powerful? If only he knew just who he was talking to. The true form of the young 'boy' was quite literally a creature of legend.

But she was also one that made a habit of closely observing others. It made it much easier to assume someone's form if you knew as much about them as you could, and the odd manner of walking does not go unnoticed. Maybe the man got hurt in all of this?

"I'm plenty strong." Mami does her best 'defiant child' voice, clenching fists in a way she isn't even sure Luke would do. She crooks her head to one side curiously. "So, the card is yours?" She doesn't answer if she has it or not. She's curious to see just how important it is. The unusual method of claiming it also puts her on edge. Something really felt off about this 'Morgan Taylor'.

He couldn't rule out the possibility that he was, infact, talking to a strong child. Possibly a general's son, or a savant. Still, that was remote.

"You're certainly confident, but more will be required of you, should you wish to ally. And yes, it is mine. In a manner of speaking. I was the one who left it in the shop, so that someone would find me."

It was time for Mami to push her pride aside and get down to what she was here for to begin with. It was better off this man thought she wasn't strong, it'd mean that she was playing her part correctly. Still, she had to show that she wasn't ONLY a simple minded child.

"Well, then it doesn't really matter if I have the card at all, right? It did what it was supposed to." She looks upwards at the trench coat clad figure. "And what do you mean, ally? I thought you just wanted to talk. You DO know something about all this, right?"

"I mean just that: ally. And yes, I do know something about all this. Likely more than all involved." Sorry, raccoon girl. He's a bit of a stodgy conversationalist.

"The card, ultimately, is insignificant. Still, giving it back would save him an inconvenience, and prove that you are sympathetic to my mission. I would share what I know, but beware. The one you are seeking has been toying with you; once the chase begins in earnest, stakes will rise. In other words, sharing my information with you may put you in grave danger. Both from my target, and myself. If you misuse my confidence, then I will hunt you down to the ends of the earth.

Are those terms acceptable?"

It was a lot to ask of a little kid! Or at least someone that seemed to have the appearance of one. Perhaps Satsuki was wise in showing a bit of discretion about who she sent, things had very quickly taken a turn for the more serious. That sounded like both a threat and a warning.

She was, of course, confident in her ability to keep herself concealed if it came to it. This man didn't seem to have any sort of mind reading ability, or else he was rather good at hiding it. Still, the words bring the disguised woman to a pause. There is no immediate answer.

Was she really this devoted to all of this? She was here because Satsuki had asked, and really that was it. The normally spontaneous woman spent a few seconds thinking about it before giving her answer.

The answer comes in the form of 'Luke' reaching into his pocket, and pulling out a small bag. It contains what appears to be the credit card in question. But she doesn't hand it over right away. "You keep saying him instead of me. Why are you doing that?" The 'boy' holds the bagged card close. "But don't worry, I'm not scared."

If a kid was his only option, he'd take it. Any spaceport in a storm.

His eyesight was acute, and he saw the card. "Yes, that is it. Please put it in his - my pocket. I will not move."

He paused at the question. "I am...not used to here. I am not sure how to refer to myself; I am unlike you and your kind."

He was unaffected by the mock display of bravery. "Then you are either able or foolish. He is a dangerous adversary, such that even great power will not suffice."

The answer she's given is one that is more then a little interesting. This 'man' was no more what he appeared to be then 'Luke' himself was. The big difference here was that she knew it and he didn't.

"But you don't look that strange." Trusting that either that card was the real thing or that it was a good enough fake that it wouldn't instantly be obvious, Mami does as directly and places it inside of one of 'Morgan's' pockets.

"I don't depend on power if I can help it. Anyone can have power, only some people can be smart enough to know how to use it."

Maybe not that acute; as 'Luke' approached with the card, he saw that it had been damaged. It may not even have been the original. He took it out once Luke had backed up, and sure enough, it was obvious that it had seen better days.

"This is not it. At least, this is not how I left it. What happened?"

He wasn't sure what to make of it. A good interpretation would be that, even though it was damaged, they were honest enough to present it. A neutral one would be that they were careless, an attribute less than suitable for what he had in mind. A bad one is that they're paying him an insult.

Which was it, Tanuki?

Perhaps the fact that the boy doesn't seem to panic nearly enough is a sign that he himself is either not all he seems or simply more reliable then his youthful outwards appearance made obvious. A small, slightly sad smile, touches his face.

"Sorry, but that IS it. At least it is now. I don't really know the details, I wasn't told anything, but apparently some tests were done to see if it was even a real card or something else. It probably isn't any good anymore, but at the very least 'he' won't have to worry about it being used by anyone else. Its not as good as just getting it back, but it should still prevent a lot of problems, right?"

Though the man was strange, the one he was talking too seemed stranger. The one he had met asking questions of pedestrians had seemed more innocent, trusting, and eager to please. This one seemed, by contrast, cockier. He couldn't imagine a kid talking about power whatsoever. Well, it wasn't like he had many options.

"I see. He'll need another, then. I wished to compensate him for his service. That will have to come later. While the caution of your superiors is well-placed, they should not make a mistake like that again. It might cost them dearly."

He paused for a moment, then picked up right where the last conversation left off.

"So, do you accept my terms?"

Mistakes like that might not have been made if Mami had more time to find out just what sort of person Luke was. She normally didn't try to imitate a person until she knew that person well. This whole idea had been spur of the moment, though. She had the most basic amounts of knowledge and that was it.

"Sorry about that. It wasn't really something I could control. I am pretty sure they didn't even want me coming out here, but if there was a chance to help, I knew I had to do it! But I'm sure that we can help 'him' after everything settles down."

The boy seems to have accepted that the person they are talking to isn't a person at all. It might have been harder to believe for the real Luke, but to Mamizou, the concept of the supernatural was commonplace. It could be argued that it was simply natural to her. Was this some sort of ghost, or perhaps something else?

"I accept. I want to do what I can to make things right."

It was such a cheesy line, Mamizou felt like she might have to apologize to the real Luke once she met him face to face, simply for having him say such a thing.
