My motel room's thermostat broke three days ago. The manager said it would be fixed by yesterday. I would normally take it that it would be fixed by yesterday so I guess my real question is: who do I complain to about motel managers who don't get the heat fixed when they say they will?

[ This all comes from Emerald, who is currently making this call wrapped in multiple blankets. Which is probably explained a moment later she follows up with a dismissive: ]

Mmeh, at least they gave me these extra blankets.

[ "Gave" is a loose term here. She may have borrowed them without permission from the housekeeping carts. Two or three of them. But who's really counting? Probably the manager but he doesn't know who has them, no harm, and if he can't fix the heating? She deserves more blankets. ...It would probably help if she had something to wear besides a shirt containing no more fabric than a sports bra and a pair of capris. It really would. ]

Obviously you threaten them until they get it done properly. That's just lazy, irresponsible and frankly, disgusting.

From the feel of the weather, it will certainly be cold enough that you'll freeze to death in that so called attire of yours.

The authorities won't care about sleazy motel managers, but the library has resources on hypothermia if you want to be educated as you die. Alternatively, you could put on some freaking clothes.

The little lady's got a point! There's plenty of fine clothing establishments around here. You could even pay them if you're that worried about your cover, but you can't stay inside forever and you can't wear blankets around town.

[He pauses, then cringes. He was joking but her taste is so horrible that she might actually consider that.]

Please don't wear blankets around town. Your undercover mission will end eventually, and I won't be associated with 'that girl who wore blankets all winter.'

I don't believe there is anyone you can complain to, but you can call someone else who could fix it much quicker if the manager won't do it.

[In her case she didn't have to back home since it was an old fashioned inn, but they always made sure that the customer always went out happy.]

Usually hotel managers have places they would call should they not be able to do it themselves. That would mean it would be cheaper to go through the manager, but I'm sure I could try and pull some strings if it gets worse.

Though I wonder why the manager hasn't done it when he said he would. That just seems like a very bad idea. After all you are meant to make the customer happy so that they would come back more and more.
