video;

My motel room's thermostat broke three days ago. The manager said it would be fixed by yesterday. I would normally take it that it would be fixed by yesterday so I guess my real question is: who do I complain to about motel managers who don't get the heat fixed when they say they will?

[ This all comes from Emerald, who is currently making this call wrapped in multiple blankets. Which is probably explained a moment later she follows up with a dismissive: ]

Mmeh, at least they gave me these extra blankets.

[ "Gave" is a loose term here. She may have borrowed them without permission from the housekeeping carts. Two or three of them. But who's really counting? Probably the manager but he doesn't know who has them, no harm, and if he can't fix the heating? She deserves more blankets. ...It would probably help if she had something to wear besides a shirt containing no more fabric than a sports bra and a pair of capris. It really would. ]

How cold does it get here anyway?

[Private to Roman]
You wish is my command. But perhaps bring up that idea with Cinder. Make it sound like it was her own little idea to get her in the spotlight of good citizenship. A little push to get these citizens on her side, perhaps?

Ah ah, cholesterol, love. Can't get too feisty.
[Waggles a finger to Roman through her feed.]

Deal and deal. We'll meet you there but somewhere off the beaten path of onlooking eyes.

[A little bit half-baked, but mostly Roman is confident that he could make Emerald's life hell until she held up her end of the bargain. It's not like he'll request anything unreasonable anyway. He's a businessman at heart. His deals may not be fair, but he knows better than to change the terms halfway through. Pull that a few times and suddenly no one's willing to work with you.

He hangs up and looks down at Neo.]

It's worth a shot, Neo. It'll take some planning but I think we can pull it off. Do we have any idea what those brats are wearing these days? Photos or anything?

[He sheds his coat and tosses his cane aside as he heads for the door. It's not exactly a disguise, but they are his most distinctive possessions-- aside from his hat, but he is not leaving the hat.]

[Tipping her head from side to side, she gave a small shrug at that. Who knew what atrocious thing those girls might be attempting to dress themselves in.]

Shouldn't be too hard to figure out. They're not exactly secretive.

[Sadly, everything on her is rather noticeable down to her hair but to at least keep from standing out TOO much, she at least changes that to all brown before joining after him, umbrella open and over her shoulder.

And wait they did, a little inconspicuous outside the mall in an alleyway but even Neo had to admit that it was getting dang cold out. While her attire covered most of her, the bits of skin exposed were indeed cold.

Spotting Emerald, she tipped her head and nudged Roman in the side to look alive.]

[To be fair they weren't infamous here as they were in Vale-- not yet. If it weren't for Emerald's cover, he wouldn't make even this half-hearted effort at hiding. Can't have anyone connecting them when his face inevitably pops up in police bulletins in a week or two. He'd pick up some sunglasses for good measure, but frankly people wearing sunglasses indoors tend to draw more suspicion.

He looked up when Neo nudged him. He could call out to Emerald or text her to get her attention, but what fun would that be? He held up a finger to signal for Neo to hang back for a second and crept to the mouth of the alley, clinging to the far wall so he was out of sight until Emerald was passing. Then in his typical mix of overconfidence and poor impulse control he grabbed her from behind, clamped one hand over her mouth to keep her from screaming too loud, and pulled her into the alley. Just a harmless prank between coworkers, right?]
