[Video] Newsflash: Genessia's barrier is freaking weird
[Pascal is in the GSRF lab. It looks like it was nice and new before she moved in, but right now it's a mess of papers, books, and random equipment in various stages of assembly. She's as chipper as ever but her smile doesn't quite reach her eyes, her movements are a little less enthusiastic, and she's actually speaking at a normal volume for once. It'd be weird to say she's still recovering from the ghosts-- it's not like she was hurt, you know? She just feels... a little faded, still.]
Hey! It's Pascal at the GSRF, and I've got a quiz for you! What's shimmery and liquid and totally defies physics?
[She turns to a bench with a hammer, an empty petri dish, and a vial of clear liquid that crackles with faint light. She pours the vial into the petri dish and then flashes a mischievous grin before swinging the hammer at it. The liquid appears to solidify right as she hits it, and the hammer rebounds.]
I'll give you a second to think about it.
...Okay! The answer is: I have no idea!
I took this sample from the barrier when it was all cracked and easy to chunk-chunk away at it. It's got a bunch of organic molecules in it too, which is totally weird for a piece of architecture!
But biology isn't really my thing, so I'm just kinda hoping that there's a biologist or a doctor out there who could help me out. You can message me over the network or just drop by the lab any time. Thanks!
[She's done with her announcement but she doesn't cut off the video. She just eyes the camera uncomfortably.]
Also, uh. I think I might've trashed a couple places when I was all ghost-zapped, so y'know... Sorry.
I can help clean up and rebuild though! I'm really good at fixing things. So yeah, that's it. Pascal out--
[She's to eager to be done with that whole awkward thing that she cuts off before she's even finished the word.]
Private video to Weiss
Heyyy, so you saw the news, right? The barrier expedition was a total success!
[Aside from her getting drained, but hey-- she got better! ]
Anyway, there's probably gonna be some people visiting the lab and I've let it get kinda disorganized so I should probably tidy it up a bit before they come by. I know you're pretty good at that kinda thing, soooo... wanna help me out?
[She whips out a banana pie from behind her back-- the ultimate incentive, obviously.]
I'll give you pie!
((OOC: Yes, this is mod-given correct info about what the barrier is made of! And please say something IC or OOC if you have a character with bio or chem skills, because there's even more interesting stuff to learn if someone helps Pascal out!))

I think I've seen something like this in a book. Do we know how it interacts?
[Because magic or biology, how something interacts with something else can tell us a lot.]
no subject
We can fix that though! We've still got a lot of budget so if we figure out what we need to do, I can totally build a thing that'll do it.
((OOC: By the way, let me know how detailed/scientific it's ok for me to be here! I usually keep it generic for RP purposes but if you and/or Levy would understand what I meant talking about different methods of analysis and stuff, I'm up for it. I live and breathe bench science.))
no subject
We should find out what it's made up of and in what way it reacts to other things. If you can build something that can easily test that.
(OOC: You are welcome to be as detailed and scientific as you want While Levy might not understand all of it I will! I'm a Mech E by degree but I love Science and ALL tech >.<)

[She hops off the table and the camera spins wildly as she prances across the lab. The camera settles on her grinning face next to the jankiest mass spectrometer man has ever seen.]
This is how I figured out it's kinda organic! Isn't it cool? It's all pew pew and the sample's like OH NO I'M FALLING APART and then the computer's all I'VE GOT YOU NOW, MUWAHAHAHA!
[That's a bit enthusiastic even for Pascal so she looks a little sheepish and clears her throat.]
...Or something like that. So we can use this to see what it's made of, but I dunno what kinds of things we should put it with to see if it interacts.
((OOC: It'll all be filtered through Pascal-speak for extra confusion, so sorry Levy. You probably know more about Pascal's skillset than I do since I'm more of a molecular bio guy... oops. But it'll work out!))
no subject
I think I'm following. [Though her description is making Levy smile because it makes the whole process sound very fantastic.]
I think we should test if it interacts with different chemicals and then different magic, also temperature changes though if it's around a city I don't see that being a problem.
[Not that Levy is extensively familiar.]
((ooc: Hehee, I already love Pascal <3 and it's okay. I don't think I could ever do bio anything >.< I'm better with gears.))
no subject
[Because she can totally handle several large-scale projects at once, right? Yeah, this is why she needs people like Weiss and Pidonus around to keep her in check.]
Sooo, Levy, wanna come over and check out the lab? I'll talk to Weiss about making you a consulting scientist or something, and we can go ahead and test out some stuff! I've got a little cryas magic of my own, and uh...
[She trails off, scanning the lab with a thoughtful frown.]
...Rocket fuel?
((OOC: Loving Levy too! <3 I went ahead and added you on Plurk, hope that's ok. But I forsee fun times with these two and you seem pretty cool, so yup.))
<3
I'd love to come by!
[It sounds like an amazing place and the chance to help would be an amazing experiance.]
I know about magic from my own world, though it might be different from others. Everyone's magic forms differently and while it can be taught it is still shaped by it's user.
Sort of like energy.
[Levy has no comments about rocket fuel though she's familiar with explosions.]

[She sends over an address in Nova City, by the Schnee Company branch there.]
There's a lot of security because Weiss is kinda like that, but don't worry about it. Just let me know when you're headed over, and you can tell them you're with me.
[She winks. One of the perks of actually being employed is that she gets to say stuff like that, which makes her sound way more important than she really is.]
My world's magic was kinda like that too. It's got three basic forms, but everyone uses it differently cause you can do all kinds of stuff with em if you're creative about it.
no subject
That sounds amazing and I'll make sure to contact you when I get near, from where I am it looks like it is about an hour walk. [She's more or less memorized the map and distances.]
I don't think I've been to Nova City yet though so I'm excited to see it. It's more hi-tech right?
[She isn't used to using machines but she isn't against them. They just aren't her forte.]
Do you mind if I ask what the forms are?
no subject
[Nova City has become her second home and she's every bit as proud of Nova City as she is of the Amarcian Enclave. Not that she needs an excuse to gallivant around town, but it's always nice to share it with a new friend.
It totally counts as friendship after 10 minutes, right? In any case, it's been a while since she's gotten to nerd out about eleth so that's great too!]
Sure! Everything back in Ephinea is made up of water, fire, and wind eleth. You can use them straight up, but if you mess with them a bit you can combine em to make stuff like lightning or earth artes. You can also use them to heal people or shove em in a vessel like an eleth mixer to create new materials.
There used to be these people called the Amarcians who were really, really good at it and they could do stuff like zap you between places and make crazy holograms, but we lost most of their tech.
no subject
I'd love to see the city. Only! If you are the one to show me around because I'd like to see all your favorite places. [She pauses.] And if there's a library.
[She's used to making friends quickly and Pascal seems like a nice person. She's fun and energetic. Levy likes her and she can't help but smile.]
Eleth? [Has she heard that before?] That sounds amazing! I'd love to study it. In my world magic is more... volatile I guess. Everyone's magic shows its self in different ways and they usually have to do with the casters personality.
no subject
Eleth is just what we call the stuff that everyone else calls magic. So the magic in your world... is it only in people? Like, there's none of it in crystals or plants or anything?
no subject
[Levy laughs.]
Why don't I head over now? I have the afternoon with no plans and I'd love to hear more about magic and talk with you more.
no subject
[She putters around the lab for a bit longer after ending the call, then heads out front to wait for Levy. Granted, she heads out significantly earlier than necessary-- it's a combination of excitement, and she forgets that most people don't move quite as fast as she tends to.
Speaking of which, Pascal has the energy patterns of your average toddler. She has two speeds, turbo and off. Lately all these curiosities have kept her going non-stop, so once she actually sits still... well, she'll be out cold by the time Levy actually arrives. She's slouched against the building in an awkward position and snoring in a most un-ladylike manner.]
no subject
Hey, if you are tired I can come back but you shouldn't sleep here.
no subject
I can sleep with the marshmallow if I wanna... mmm.
[There's a pause while she shakes off the fog of sleep and realizes that yes, she actually does know who Levy is and why she's here.]
Oh hey, Levy...
[She sits up, still rubbing her eyes but at least she's lucid now.]
Nah, I'm good! That sure put a crick in my neck, though. Ugh.
no subject
I bet. You sure you don't want me to come back later? You look really tired and rest is important.
[Take it from someone who often over works herself.]
no subject
Nah! You came all this way, and I'm gonna be honest here-- if you left, I'd just head to the library and check out biology stuff anyway.
[Pascal isn't your typical workaholic, but when she goes on a research binge it's impossible to get her to stop. She gets to her feet and stretches, reaching arms over her head and standing on tip-toe. By the time she's done, the bounce is back in her step.]
So! Where do you wanna start?
no subject
[Levy loves books and since arriving in Genessia books are the only thing that she's really collected. She has a few trinkets but her room is mostly filled with books.]
If you'll be so kind to lead the way.
no subject
[Sorry, Levy.]
But we've got the internet, and that's like a billion libraries put together! And, y'know, a few cranks who think the Guardians are leaving mind-control chemtrails in the sky, but whatever. I'm sure we'll be able to figure something out with it.
no subject
Well, I've seen that Library. Why don't you take me to your favorite spot?
[It seems easier.]
no subject
[She pauses and then rubs the back of her neck sheepishly.]
But that's probably not the kinda thing you'd like if you're more book-y than tech-y. We've also got this huuuuge museum of-- kinda a museum of everything, and a planetarium with space stuff and one of those big projector shows. Or there's a cafe where they 3D print sweets on demand and this diner with a robot bartender. Or if we take a hovercar and use a little zappity-zap to get by security, there's a skyscraper rooftop where you can see the entire city below you! It's awesome.
So uh... pick one of em, cause I can't really choose a favorite.
no subject
That all sounds like fun. [A scrapyard might be fun but it makes her think of Gajeel since the young mage ate iron.]
Did you still want me to look at that organic?
[She vaguely remembers what their conversation had started with.]
no subject
All of it? Even the scrapyard?
[Oh man she has chosen the perfect nerd!]
That's it, we have got to be friends.
--Oh yeah, but you should totally check that out before we go. We'll have to scour the library and the internet for info later, but you don't know what to look for until you look at it, right?
[She rummages in her pocket and produces a security badge, then holds it up to the keycard reader until it beeps. She opens the door and motions Levy inside.]
C'mon in!
no subject
I thought we were already friends.
[She flashes Pascal a smile before following her inside.]
So do you work here or live here?
[Levy half lives in her library so she can understand living where you worked.]
