[Ken has been here for a little while, has gone through the documents, tried to make sense of things - but honestly, there was only thing he was really worried about.

Or rather, someone. Someone that he knew was with him shortly before he woke up here.]

Wormmon? Wormmon, where are you?

[Because he knows that the Digimon was an over protective little digital insect and wouldn't leave him alone unless something happened.

But Ken couldn't remember what that something would be. He sighs before he suddenly remembers the device in his hands and looks down at it, slightly startled to see that it's apparently recording?

Huh.

Well. He might as well take advantage of it, right?]

Ah, excuse me. My name is Ken Ichijouji and I'm looking for a little green worm called Wormmon. I don't suppose someone has seen him?

You mean like a D-Arc?

[He stares.]

...But aren't they way too big to fit inside a computer? The one Guilmon found was bigger than I am!

Maybe...? It's what connects us to our partners and part of what allows them to evolve.

[ You know, besides the fact that they're chosen Digimon. ~~Ken's Crest of Kindness? Eh. Who knows about that thing.~~ ]

It's a computer program. That's how we access the gates - with a computer.

[Takato fumbles though his pocket and pulls out a white device. It was large, almost big enough to need two hands to hold, with a slot on one side and an electronic screen in the center. Around the a golden ring was inlaid. If Ken looked close enough he might recognize the digicode written on the gold ring.]

This is my D-Arc. My digivice. But I don't think it's ever opened anything like that.

[He looks confused.]

Wait, you can just go there any time? With a program?

[ Ken leans closer so that he can inspect the D-Arc. After a moment, he leans back, digging into his own pocket to pull out his own D-3. ]

Well, now we can. The gate was closed for about two or so years between the last group of Chosen and the current one.

[ For the most part. And he's not about to admit that he's the danger that caused the gate to re-open again. Because the Digimon Kaiser is not something that he plans on admitting to at the moment. Or for the foreseeable future. ]

[Takato leans in to get a better look. ]

I've never seen one like that before. How do you scan the cards?

...It opened again? It can open again?

[Look, you've nearly made Takato cry. ]

Cards? What cards?

[ And Takato has completely lost Ken. Or at least to an extent. Because he has no idea what the other boy is referring to.

But he nods at the second (and really, third) question. ]

It did.

Um, option and item cards? You know, from the Digimon card game.

Then maybe if I can get home from here...

There's a card game? How is that possible? I mean, other then a few sightings and what happened in Odabia, most people don't even know of the existence of Digimon, let alone there being some sort of card game based around them.

Um, I'm not sure what you're talking about. I mean, sure people didn't believe that digimon were real. Not until the devas and the D-Reaper.

But almost everyone had heard of them. Not always the card game. But you know, there are movies and tv series and video games.

...What happened in Odaiba?

[ Sorry, Takato, Ken is just going to. stare. at. the. screen. because WTF.

It takes a few minutes for his brain to reboot and come back online. ]

There is...? Most people aren't supposed to know about them.

There was a Digimon who took over the convention center and kidnapped a lot of the families. I live in Tamachi, so I only heard about it afterwards.

Well, Hypnos seemed pretty determined at first to keep the real digimon a secret. [He frowns slightly in remembrance.] But I guess after Vikaralamon they had to give up on that. Between all the streets in Shinjuku he destroyed and the earthquakes he set off...

Maybe he was just too big to keep a secret any more And then there was the D-Reaper.

[He frowns in confusion.]

In Odaiba? But that's only thirty minute away. I would have thought we'd hear about something like that.

I've never heard of Hypnos before.

[ Ken's voice is thin and bewildered because he so is ].

I think a lot of it was covered up. I'm not sure how it was explained away, but I only know the finer details because I have friends who were there. I didn't become Chosen until after that.

Well, I guess not everyone would know about them. They're the part of the government that was monitoring digimon.

[The concept of a secret government organization was lost on Takato. ]

Maybe Hypnos had something to do with that? I mean, I know they used to cover up some of the Wild Ones attacks.

I was under the impression that someone from the Digital World had a hand in that.

[ Like Gennai and his 20 twins or whatever that had been. ]

...I don't think anyone there would want to work with humans.

I mean, Azulongmon seemed to think we could work together. But a lot of the digimon there really don't like humans at all.

Most of the Digimon that I've seen are normally accepting of humans, unless they've been brainwashed, evil or have some other reason to fear or distrust them.

[ Unfortunately, Ken has given them many reasons to. ]

You've met Azulongmon too?

[Takato suddenly had the feeling that mentioning that he'd climbed on Azulongmon's beard would not be helpful here.]

Yeah, when I was in the digital world. Though I've met Zhuqiaomon more times. He really doesn't like humans at all.

[He shakes his head.]

I've met a few groups that were friendly with humans. But I've also met a lot of digimon who thought our digimon friends were traitors for partnering with us. Or they thought that they could get stronger by taking the data of a tamed digimon.

[It had been starting to get better, because with the D-Reaper everyone had been forced to work together. He often wondered what it was like in the Digital World now. With evolution released, were digimon still trying to delete each other to get stronger? ]

[ Takato. Stop confusing him. ]

What do you mean, 'taking the data'?

Before evolution was released again, a lot of digimon thought that the only waty to become strong enough to evolve was to delete other digimon and absorb their data.

(It upset Takato now to think about how it had been then. And knowing that none of it had been necessary. It wasnt data that made digimon strong.)

[ It takes Ken a long moment to formulate a response. When he does, it's quiet. ]

So they killed each other...

[ His hand clenches into a fist, trying to hide the fact that it was shaking. He knows far to well what it was like to lose a Digimon, only then, it had been because of him and his own stupidity.

And because Wormmon was a far more caring soul then he ever would be.

Then he pauses, when he really thinks about what the other just said to him. ]

But... but how are they reborn then?

[Takato stares at him in complete confusion.]

What? I don't know what you-

[He cuts himself off and drops his gaze to stare sadly at the ground. ]

...Digimon can't be reborn. They can't come back. Not ever.

[Not even Leomon.]

[ Ken's brow furrows, confused as well. ]

That's not -- no. Wormmon did. Wormmon died because of my stupidity and was reborn as a Digi-egg.

[ Unlike Osamu. ]

...He came back?

[But if digimon could come back, what about Leomon? What about Juri? ]

He did. I had to travel to the village where the eggs were and find his with the Crest of Kindness, but Wormmon came back to me.

But... that's impossible. Digimon- No, not a single digimon ever came back. Not even Leomon.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm glad that you were able to get your friend back. But-

[Juri. She was doing better these days. So much better. But even now she was still so sad. And Takato couldn't help but feel that it was partly his fault. If he hadn't gotten her interested in becoming a Tamer, she never would have had to live through all that pain. She never would have lost Leomon.

And if Leomon hadn't been there with Juri, maybe he wouldn't have died.

How was it possible for digimon to come back? And how could he ever tell Juri? If they could come back, then why hadn't Leomon?]
