[Ruby is already making her way back to the Remnant House as she looks... kind of anxious. A lot of stuff has happened, and she's... not entirely sure how to process coming back here.]

Well... didn't expect to be back here. Doesn't... seem like a lot of time has passed here, which is... weird.

[She sighs and adjusts the backpack full of stuff she was carrying before speaking again.]

So... did I miss anything?

All I know is that if I see Emerald again, I have a lot of questions.

[She shakes her head.]

Not that I know of.

I would be extraordinarily surprised if she supplied answers, and I don't need to tell you to be careful, should you suspect her of rigging the tournament to her benefit.

[ a bit tiredly, though ozpin finally collects up his cup, eyeing the coffee in it for a long moment. he almost sips it, but seems to hesitate, and refocuses his attention on ruby once again. ]

Is Pyrrha here, Ruby?

[ it's said gently -- not wanting to stir up a wound, but needing to know, all the same. and, the other unsaid question -- does she know? ]

If I can just provoke her enough to use her semblance... that would be enough.

[She nods.]

Yeah... I don't think she knows, and I couldn't... bring myself to say anything.

[ ozpin frowns, slightly, at her first assertion. provoking anyone into using their semblance just seemed like a patently stupid idea, but ruby has been through a lot, and no doubt wants answers. he would just need to find emerald first, if she is here.

but the next part is far more worrying, and he exhales. ]

It is not your responsibility to tell Pyrrha. I wouldn't expect that of you.

[ if anything, it's ozpin's responsibility, seeing as he got the girl killed. ]

I will tell her myself, if necessary. I would much rather her hear it from someone who cares about her, rather than someone who does not. Does that sound fair? Or would you rather her not know?

[ it's a serious inquiry. ]

I... I don't know what to say to her.

I want to tell her about Penny, warn her that the fight will be tampered with in some hope that when she goes home she'll know and Penny will be okay, and everything doesn't... end up like this and she won't...

[She trails off, the emotions she had been so desperately holding in starting to leak out as tears start to flow.]

[ oh, ruby.

ozpin's expression immediately melts into concern, sympathy -- heartbreak, really, for the girl. and he draws in a breath before collecting up his cane, standing in a relatively graceful moment before reaching out to touch her shoulder. ]

Come on, Ruby, outside, with me.

[ quietly, to steer her out.

ruby needs to cry, but ozpin doesn't want her to have to do so in front of strangers. ]

[Ruby wipes at her eyes as she allows Ozpin to guide her, coffee completely forgotten at this point. It takes her a second but she manages to calm herself down long enough for the tears to stop.]

I... I'm okay, Professor. I'm okay.

No, you are not.

[ it's said heavily, and ozpin squeezes her shoulder briefly before returning his hand to his cane, breathing in the fresh air once they've stepped outside. he pauses for a moment before offering her a faint smile, though it doesn't reach his eyes. ]

But neither am I, so I suppose we will have to be not okay together.

I don't... have any other option... Someone very wise once said 'If you're not constantly performing at your best, what reason do you give others to follow you?'

[She wipes her eyes again, quoting the lesson more for herself than anything.]

I'm fine... I promise.

[ there's a pause, at that, and ozpin's smile becomes instantly genuine. ]

Would you like to know a secret, Ruby?

[Ruby blinks a couple times, glancing up at Ozpin. Her eyes were still a touch red, but she'd calmed down considerably.]

Uh... sure.

It comes in two parts -- one, I tell myself that every single day, because it's extraordinarily important to remember.

[ ozpin offers ruby a knowing look before clearing his throat, allowing his eyes to scan the road ]

Secondly, I stole that line from your Uncle Qrow.

[ ... a heavily edited, profane-fee version. but idea plagiarism is more honorable, isn't it ]

[Okay that actually gets a giggle out of her. As much as she idolizes Qrow, she's never seen him as the philosophical wise teacher type that she sees in Ozpin.]

Hard to imagine him saying something like that.

That is because it is heavily edited.

[ lightly, and he inclines his head toward the street. walk with him, and show him around? ]

You would be amazed how most poetry comes about, once you delete a few words.

Heh... yeah, that sounds more like Uncle Qrow.

[She nods, gladly focusing on the task at hand.]

Indeed. And with any luck, he will show up next.

[ qrow is a useful ally, loyal and stays true to course.

he also actually listens to ozpin like 54% of the time, which is a higher percentage than most of his friends or students. ]

That would be nice. ...Kinda worried dad might show up too. I mean... I love him and would love to see him again, but... Not sure he'd approve of the living situation. ...Or me sneaking off with Jaune, Nora, and Ren.

[No way in hell she was just going to sit around and do nothing, and Tai definitely wasn't going to let her go anywhere...]

Something tells me Taiyang will be far more concerned with yelling at me, rather than his daughters.

Heh... just wait until he hears Jaune is living with us. Not really sure how he would've reacted if Yang or I wound up on a team with a boy.

[Ruby is just trying to hold on to those thoughts of normalcy for now.]
