[ ozpin has collected all the information he needs to feel relatively comfortable finally introducing himself. he knows there are enemies here, and he knows there could be more enemies to come. he knows the majority of his students have experienced quite a lot of trauma in recent weeks, and he knows that he seems to be the only actual adult here to deal with any of it.
worst of all, most of this is his fault, and ozpin seems to be delightfully absent for most of it.
so, after dwelling on that for a moment, the feed turns on to show ozpin in a chair, in a corner of a bookstore that seems to be mostly empty. his cane is leaning against the table and while he still looks somewhat tired and worn down, his eyes are bright and he has a warm smile in place. ozpin has always been horrendous at playing the game, especially when such things are at stake. perhaps peace has made him lazy -- or perhaps he just genuinely believes that everything will be overcome.
at any rate, his students (and the others here) need him to be the leader that he proclaimed to be before everything went to utter hell, and so when he speaks, ozpin sounds like a conversationalist, calm and at the ready. ]
Hello.
[ it's almost like today is a normal day, with yet another inspirational monologue from professor ozpin. ]
It seems that quite the collective of my students have taken root in this city, and transformed it into their own. [ weiss. ] I wish I could say that I could bring half of what they have to this place, but I'd rather not disappoint you all.
[ probably too late for that. ]
But as for introductions -- my name is Ozpin. I am the Headmaster of Beacon Academy, for those from Remnant who may not recognize me. [ which should be no one, but you can never be too sure. ] I've already spoken with several of my students, and it seems that our world has become rather popular in terms of new arrivals... but to the students I haven't yet had the opportunity to see, and the students that I don't have the pleasure of calling my own... I would very much like to speak with you. Privately.
[ the slightest hint of his teacher voice, but it's gone in an instant, and ozpin returns to his faint smile. he's not going to waste time concerning himself with roman torchwick or emerald or anyone else who happens to show up. they will come find him if they wish to speak more. ]
As for the rest of you, if you would indulge me with suggestions on where to locate a decent cup of coffee, I would be forever in your debt. In addition, I would also like to hear some of the positives of this place -- what do you like to do? What are your hobbies? Your work? You would be surprised how effective positivity can be in curing most problems.
{ ozpin inclines his head toward his cane (and the untouched cup), with a slightly knowing look. ]

I've had something of a rough week.
Video; Private
I know a nice little cafe that has some decent coffee. How about I show you it? [Excuse to finally talk to him? Yes.]
Video; Private
asking if she is alright is pointless. surely someone has told her by now -- probably not ruby, or blake, but perhaps weiss. asking if she has questions is also pointless, and apologizing is something to be done in person. so, all business: ]
Of course.
[ without hesitation, as he stands. ]
I will meet you there, so long as you tell me where to go.
Video; Private
Okay, I'll see you soon then.
Video; Private > action
slowly. he's still recovering from his fight. but he's a lot more refreshed than he was when he got here. and soon, he comes upon pyrrha outside of the cat's eye cafe, and he slows to a stop to look her over. instinctive, and then, with a faint smile: ]
It's good to see you, Pyrrha.
[ gently, using her first name. ]
Action
You too, Professor. Shall we?
Action
[ he takes a few steps forward, watching her -- it's a bit of a piercing look, but he soon rests his weight on his cane, and his expression melts into something a lot less severe, and more tired, with the tiniest hint of guilt in his eyes. ]
What have you been told?
[ his tone is quiet, gentle -- his expression showing that he knows, if pyrrha knows why he looks the way he does, and he ducks his head to catch her eyes, his lips twitching into a frown.
he would much rather have this part of the conversation outside of a potentially crowded cafe. ]
Action
If it's not clear from the way that faint smile dropped from her expression, the clear trade off of a pained look took it's place.]
I was wondering... why some of them couldn't even stand to look at me... They'd avoid my questions and try to change the subject on me.... No one was telling me anything, but I guess that's an understandable response to seeing someone who's supposed to be dead alive and well.
Well... physically anyways.... [There it is...]
Action
her death is his fault. point blank. and he's been steadily shoving that aside to focus on his other students, but seeing pyrrha herself has brought it back to the surface, in a crushing way. this is his fault. and even moreso, because had he just stopped cinder --
he's silent before taking another step forward, and he extends an arm, his own expression very clearly showing his own distress, and he asks, quietly -- ]
May I?
[ she, above all else, looks like she probably needs a hug, but ozpin has been training soldiers for far too long to automatically assume students are alright within having their personal space invaded without clearance. ]
Action
I'm sorry. I wasn't strong enough....
Action
Pyrrha...
[ if anyone should be saying that, it should be me. ozpin, who couldn't crush cinder, who needed to kill her, to protect his school, and his students. who needed to defeat her, and take the power back. but he wasn't strong enough, and he had failed. astoundingly. ]
... Pyrrha, you were destined to become a valiant huntress, for Vale, and for Remnant, who fought with compassion and for justice, for all beings in this world. No matter what anyone tells you, or what end remains, you have done precisely what was expected of you, and exceeded all expectations.
[ his voice is quiet -- carefully controlled, his throat tight. ]
Anyone who tells you otherwise has nothing but hatred in their heart. Do you understand?
Action
[But she still appreciates what he said. She took his words to heart, but it was still had to completely give up the way she thought about what happened.]
I just hope that.... my death will have meant something. Were my efforts worth it?
Action
[ warmly -- and with a brief squeeze, ozpin lets her go before ducking his head to meet her eyes, with a smile.
every single thing pyrrha nikos does is worth it. pyrrha nikos is worth it. she is worth everything -- a unique person in the world, that can never be replaced. of course her efforts were worth it, because they were done by pyrrha nikos. ]
I could not be more proud a student, Miss Nikos. All that you have accomplished will not go to waste. I promise you.
[ ozpin will take cinder to the grave with him if his life depends on it, but pyrrha will not have died in vain. ]
Action
Okay. As long as... it meant something. That's all I ever wanted. I wanted to make a difference. I have faith in Ruby and the others.
Thanks, Professor.
Action
{ gently, and ozpin delicately steers her toward the door of the cafe. ]
You will know you have made all the difference in the world, by only giving them the privilege of knowing someone such as yourself.
Action
I just hope it doesn't make them act... strange around me. I mean... talking to someone who's supposed to be dead will do that but... I don't want that to make things more awkward than they already are.
Action
[ it's a delicate way of saying that he's talked to a few of them about pyrrha, and none of the conversations have been very pretty. ozpin glances around the cafe, letting his eyes scan over the patrons quickly, before his eyes land toward a table in the corner, by the window. ]
Over there, I think, will be fine. Allow me to sit against the wall, please.
[ ozpin is relaxed, now that he has pyrrha in his sights, but it's hard to undo the paranoia. he will watch the door, and pyrrha can have the most distance to leave immediately if necessary. and he offers pyrrha a tired smile before glancing up at the menu. ]
Once we have what we want, you may ask me whatever it is you would like to know.
[ she deserves that much ]
Action
Okay. [And lord knows she has countless questions for you. But for now, she'll scan the menu.]
Action
preparing himself for recounting events. ]
So.
[ mildly, and he reaches forward to pick up his cup. ]
Where do you want to begin?
Action
Action
... the Vytal Tournament fell apart, after an incident between two students. The White Fang appeared, along with Roman Torchwick and his collective. Cinder captured communications, and hundreds of Grimm descended upon the city. They declared war. It was a trap.
[ ozpin pauses to take a sip of his drink, ruminating on that thought for a moment -- war... and ozpin sighs before setting his cup back down, looking tired. ]
I found you, in the courtyard, after it became clear that we could not fight back against Cinder and her army. You, myself, and Jaune descended into the Vault, in order to transfer Amber's power to you. But Cinder followed us, and attacked -- she killed Amber, and took the Maiden's power for herself. After I released you from the pod, I told you and Jaune to run -- and you both left the Vault.
[ he pauses, again ]
I fought Cinder, and was defeated. I am not dead. [ he says it at once, before pyrrha can say anything, or be worried ] I believe she took me somewhere, and I am being held captive, for whatever reason. After that, I have been told Cinder ascended to the top of the tower, to destroy it, and cut off communications.
[ here, his expression turns somber ]
I am also told that you followed her.
Action
But Cinder taking the power for herself is what stuck out the most to her besides Penny. It was enough to distract her from feeling terrible about Penny's demise as it shifted on larger matters.]
....... And I wasn't enough to stop her..... [She can piece that together at least...]
Action
[ firmly, and ozpin shakes his head ]
I was not enough to stop her. You did everything you could possibly do, Pyrrha -- none of this lies with you. All of this... none of the fault lies with you.
