[ ozpin has collected all the information he needs to feel relatively comfortable finally introducing himself. he knows there are enemies here, and he knows there could be more enemies to come. he knows the majority of his students have experienced quite a lot of trauma in recent weeks, and he knows that he seems to be the only actual adult here to deal with any of it.
worst of all, most of this is his fault, and ozpin seems to be delightfully absent for most of it.
so, after dwelling on that for a moment, the feed turns on to show ozpin in a chair, in a corner of a bookstore that seems to be mostly empty. his cane is leaning against the table and while he still looks somewhat tired and worn down, his eyes are bright and he has a warm smile in place. ozpin has always been horrendous at playing the game, especially when such things are at stake. perhaps peace has made him lazy -- or perhaps he just genuinely believes that everything will be overcome.
at any rate, his students (and the others here) need him to be the leader that he proclaimed to be before everything went to utter hell, and so when he speaks, ozpin sounds like a conversationalist, calm and at the ready. ]
Hello.
[ it's almost like today is a normal day, with yet another inspirational monologue from professor ozpin. ]
It seems that quite the collective of my students have taken root in this city, and transformed it into their own. [ weiss. ] I wish I could say that I could bring half of what they have to this place, but I'd rather not disappoint you all.
[ probably too late for that. ]
But as for introductions -- my name is Ozpin. I am the Headmaster of Beacon Academy, for those from Remnant who may not recognize me. [ which should be no one, but you can never be too sure. ] I've already spoken with several of my students, and it seems that our world has become rather popular in terms of new arrivals... but to the students I haven't yet had the opportunity to see, and the students that I don't have the pleasure of calling my own... I would very much like to speak with you. Privately.
[ the slightest hint of his teacher voice, but it's gone in an instant, and ozpin returns to his faint smile. he's not going to waste time concerning himself with roman torchwick or emerald or anyone else who happens to show up. they will come find him if they wish to speak more. ]
As for the rest of you, if you would indulge me with suggestions on where to locate a decent cup of coffee, I would be forever in your debt. In addition, I would also like to hear some of the positives of this place -- what do you like to do? What are your hobbies? Your work? You would be surprised how effective positivity can be in curing most problems.
{ ozpin inclines his head toward his cane (and the untouched cup), with a slightly knowing look. ]

Anytime, Ozpin. Professor Ozpin.
[ She's going to end up flipflopping between the two names, just you watch. Not out of disrespect or anything though - it's just the way she is. Her own guild masters she flipflopped between calling them Master Makarov/Mavis, and not using the title at all. ]
What kind of stories? Hm - all kinds, actually. I just finished a few books in a mystery, detective kind of genre that was fun to write. And of course, there's fantasy and magic. I think the next one I write will be a swashbuckling epic.
I don't write romance novels though... and I do have other stories I've written, but those ones are based on the adventures I've had with my guild, before coming here. And.. those ones I'm not going to publish, I think.
[ Video ]
ozpin was right to ask people what made them happy -- it's putting him in a much better mood. ]
You may call be Ozpin, or Professor Ozpin -- whichever makes you most comfortable. I hardly mind.
[ lucy, after all, isn't one of his students -- and even then, ozpin isn't really bothered by titles. ]
I rather like detective stories -- perhaps I'll pick one up, while I'm here.
[ Video ]
Well, if you mention my name I can make sure you get a discount on it if you do! [ She propped her chin against a hand, suddenly 'oh'ing. ]
That reminds me... I hope it isn't presumptious to ask or anything, but would mind telling me if you're staying in Fayren? There's a very good reason for my question, I promise.
[ Video ]
I will be sure to do so -- and no. I actually haven't figured out where I'm staying, permanently, yet.
[ somewhere with a view, up high, with plenty of room for books, certainly, but ozpin hasn't really paid much thought to it yet. ]
Why Fayren?
Re: [ Video ]
If you were planning on staying in Fayren, I wouldn't want you to show up without that information. My partner and I have been using the guild as a safe haven for mages and non mages who are worried about them. Fayren is usually nicer than this though, honest.
They've been pretty quiet the past month though.
[ Video ]
ozpin's brow furrows slightly, looking more than a little concerned with that. that sounds super familiar. ]
Why threaten those who can use 'magic'?
[ dust is not magic okay it's a different type of sparkly-sparkles ]
[ Video ]
Because they're idiots? [ Yeah, she's taking it personally. ]
It can't be just fear- there are tons of mages in Fayren that just want to live their lives, and don't cause trouble. Heck, Natsu and I have gone around the city helping out people who needed it on our own.
It seems to be more of them thinking magic is unnatural and 'unwelcome' as far as they're concerned. It makes no sense. They essentially said if mages don't get out of Fayren, they were going to release a toxin that would target and kill anyone with magic.
Just a little while ago someone released a bunch of monsters in Fayren and ...despite our best efforts, there were people who were injured, and killed. Though the number was lower than it could have been thanks to the people who answered the emergency. [ But Lucy was still unhappy about it. ]
The authorities claim it was a summoner who did it and killed his wife, but... I don't buy it.
... Sorry, I shouldn't be warning you about this kind of thing so soon. It's probably the last thing you'd ever wanted to hear.
[ Video ]
[ mildly enough, resting his hands in his lap. ozpin is pretty sure "the last thing you'd ever want to hear" has already been accomplished for this week. monsters invading cities? that sounds like a tuesday. ]
Are the monsters still inhabiting the city? What are the monsters, exactly -- magical beings, or just beasts?
[ Video ]
No, no the monsters were turned back some time ago, thankfully. Ah, it was a combination of normal beasts and magical. Giant boards, skeltons, clockwork roaches, fire bats... that sort.
[ Video ] 1/2
[ kindly, though he appreciates the concern. ]
And that is good -- fortunate, really, that the city had such able bodied soldi --
[ Video ]
-- excuse me, clockwork what?
[ CAN HE GET ONE AS A PET ]
[ Video ]
I'm sorry - aheh, um. Clockwork Roaches. Or ...Clockroaches. Something like that - They're fairly large but they look like...well.. roaches. [ She shuddered a little. Roaches. YUCK. ]
[ Video ]
phenomenal tbh ]
Cockroaches, but made out of clocks.
[ glynda is almost certainly going to kill him but he's totally investigating this ]
Re: [ Video ]
I...assume so. I took them out from as far away as I could to be quite honest, and I didn't try dissecting them to see if gears fell out...
You...
aren't thinking about catching one...are you?
[ pls say no for the love of everything. ]
[ Video ]
No, of course not. That would be ridiculous.
[ he is totally going to catch one ]
Re: [ Video ]
Aaha -- well, hypothetically if you were to do something like that, I'd hope you would be careful.
Not that I'd have to worry of course. [ Because he's so obviously not going to look for something like that! ]
[ Video ]
[ 100% facts ]
Though I am touched by your hypothetical concern, and I hypothetically thank you for it.
[ Video ]
[ She laughs at the bizarre turn the conversation took - which is worlds better than the grim (not the Grimm) one earlier. ]
In any case, if you have any questions or if you ever need anything, you can always call on me or Natsu. He's my partner in the guild. [ Well -- a bit more than that nowadays... ]
[ Video ]
[ because honestly, fayren sounds like the best place to lie low and be left alone for awhile, though he'll have to see how the pieces move first. where will emerald go? mercury? cinder, if she shows up?
we just don't know. ]
Thank you, for the warning -- I will have to ask my comrades what they would like to do, but I appreciate the knowledge.
[ glynda and james will ultimately probably make the decision on where ozpin is going to stay, given he's grounded ]
[ Video ]
You're welcome! If you do go to Fayren, there's a nice Inn that we stayed at when we first arrived - the innkeeper's a sweet old lady. She'll look out for you. It's the Dewdrop Inn. From the Fayren gate, just head straight past our guild and over the bridge into town, you can't miss it.
[ Video ]
[ he's curious, anyway, about the surrounding lands. it almost (nearly) feels like home. vacuo, haven, atlas, and vale... remnant is in turmoil, but this place seems calm.
he can regroup, here. ]
