GSRF Official Report: Dream Docks

Those of you who know me know I took a trip to the Dream Docks a little under a month ago. Most of you didn't know that it wasn't just for fun. City Guardian David Haller and Levy McGarden assisted me in determining how the Dream Docks work. Using a telepathic link established by David Haller, we learned the following:

1. No one physically leaves the Dream Docks. You don't actually "go home" at any point during the process.

2. Your mind is not directly connected to another person during the process.

3. Memories appear to be added to your mind through whatever the Dream Docks process is, even if it feels like you have actually gone back and lived your life during this time.

Duplicating this test would be difficult unless anyone else is willing to let one of the telepathic people here in on every little detail of their life, so re-confirmation of these results isn't easy. Sample size is 1 (me) so there's a chance it could be different for other people, but we don't have enough data to say either way. I still wanted to share what we do know.

Less business-related: Is nitrous oxide legal in Genessia?

[ There is definitely a car behind her. It's definitely not her normal SUV that she drives around.

She may have eaten a street racer. It may be a good time to ask her about cars though, since she's got mad auto-mechanic skills at the moment. ]

I'd offer my scientific expertise to your cause but it doesn't actually exist outside of accidentally becoming a horologist and having a mild fascination with paleontology. So, useless over here. Hopefully some wicked smart nerds come flowing in from the smart galaxy for you.

Okay. Cool. Those can be on the backburner. That nice pile of "stuff that's totally useless until we figure out how to not make it totally useless because we have no idea what we're doing and it's a bunch of half-finished studies." Pretty sure there's not a lot of fossils to go digging up and examining in jars or anything. I mean, I guess I could go back and time and try to find a starting point for those docks but...

[ what a completely useless skill to have right ha ha ha ] Yeah.

Is that car related to science? Or are you just full of really awesome side-hobbies?

[ shit. muttery word vomit. ]

What the horology? You said it was currently useless but okay. What about it?

Go back in time and peek at them. [ ... ] I think that'd make me chronologist, actually. Hornologists make watches, right? But hornologist was funnier to say. Either way should, by default, be considered an expert.

[ this poor hot goth scientist with the car shouldn't have to put up with this. he'll stop. ]

I could time travel. If that helps. I guess.

Probably. Just because it's running on different time as the universes everyone's coming in from doesn't mean it doesn't have it's own time going on. There's places where it doesn't really go linearly but that's not here or you'd notice. It's got it's own timeline, which may or may not interact with the other universes depending on the shenanigans ensuing. But yeah, granted we're an alpha and not a doomed timeline, it should be ticking alone fine.

Is there a blanket science for just studying time as a thing?

Yeah. It's pretty obvious those are a thing.

[ this is coming out a little fast and with a lot of gesticulation ]

Not to give a lesson on time travel here but like all things are technically happening all the time always simultaneously everywhere and have happened and will happen. But the alpha timeline has everything happening that's supposed to happen because it's the alpha and it's in charge because that's what alphas mean. Haven't you learned from the wolves? But since everything that ever could happen also is happening or happened always forever you've got these other timelines where things that aren't supposed to happen happen.

You've got some major event-changing choice that you probably have no idea is important. And you pick B but on the alpha you picked A so you're on a doomed timeline now and as the name implies, everything eventually destroys itself on there and the timeline has a clear end game because B is for bad fucking choice and you're the reason everyone got crushed by a meteor or whatever.

I used to know because something I already went back and did would become impossible to do later. You know, paradoxes. Because I'd make these time loops and have to do them all. If I couldn't go forward after doing everything I already did then obviously something wrong happened. ....I guess you wouldn't know.

[ he pauses, considering. looking off at some point that's not her on the screen ]

If there's still a chance of fixing everything, you're fine. I wouldn't worry about it.

For me to do it at all? Yeah, I guess I should probably run a test and go back in an hour and give myself a solemn little nod that shit still works if you want it to be any kind of useful.

[ turns his head to look around where he's sitting ]

It probably doesn't and I'm just as useless as any teenager should b-- ah fuck. There I am with the nod.
