Migraines and things
Who: Smoker & anyone for any reason
Where: Fayren shore
What: Mr. Grumpypants marine has a migraine headache.
When: July 27th at like nearly 4 am.
[Leaving a small note, a pot of coffee sans one travel mug worth, and a pot of ramen soup sans one thermos worth, Smoker isn't completely sure that it'll be enough, but probably better than alerting any general populous that he's not there, even if he did set a couple of metaphorical watchdogs to keep an eye on things.]
[He takes along a small pocket radio, half curious if it'll even work in Fayren, and heads out to the beach.]
[For a breath of fresh air.]
[And to eat his ramen.]
[And think.]
[And overthink.]
[And over think everything ever.]
[As he does.]
[And to try to deal with a migraine headache that won't let him sleep.]
[But if he can't sleep? Neither can you.]
[Which is why he's sitting on the shore, trying to fiddle with the radio player.]
[And maybe toast marshmallows for s'mores.]
[Or roast fish he caught.]
[AND stack rocks.]
[And make a small sand castle you literally won't see until you crush it oops. That's okay, he didn't like it anyway.]
[But at least he'll get to greet the sunrise.]
[He hates sunrises =\]

[That's a ton to dump on her at once, and she doesn't have a clue where to start. By the time her brain works again, she's following him and already completely lost. But the more she thinks about it, the easier it is to zero on the question he might actually be able to answer.]
Smoker, you're living with a young girl?
no subject
I-It's not like that!
[But he is all blushy and facepalms.]
She likes motorcycles too. And Kuzan is here and... before fighting with Akainu. Time is all messed up here. That's why Portgas is alive. And there are people from other worlds. The girl in the hologram, Weiss is from another world.
no subject
[Of course, that blush doesn't go un-noticed. She stifles a laugh, quietly thankful for the one familiar face she wouldn't want to do without.]
Okay. What else should I know?
[Because it sounds like she should just ask this Miss Adela for the real dirt on what her Vice Admiral's been up to. Yes, that sounds like an excellent plan.]
no subject
There's actually a lot of call for swords here. Something about dust to make them too, that's how Weiss has a lot of money.
I'm working at the forge and doing motorcycles. There's bounties, but there are a lot more bounty hunters than bounties most days. In a good way. Like Dadi, not Roronoa.
There are three or four Whitebeards here... plus some. The Phoenix, Namur 8th division commander, and Portgas as you saw. The phoenix is also apparently married to a redhead vixen with a whip.
Other than Kuzan, another marine, Coby, is here. He's the one Akainu almost killed at Marineford, but Red-Haired Shanks stopped him. [Think think...]
There are a lot of kids here, [Well, Smoker notices them more] and Portgas unleashed a hundred puppies on the city rather than let them stay in prison.
There's a... alien? Called Frieza here. He's basically like Akainu but with Garp's haki. Not much perception haki, but the armament... He said he's going to destroy the planet, but not too many people believe him. So I told him try to demonstrating he could go outside of the city and melt everything down. [SHRUG.] So that's a thing. [... yup.]

[Her smile falters just a little at the mention of Roronoa, but she quickly recovers. There are far more important matters to worry about than one pirate swordsman.]
[Except... Smoker doesn't really seem all that worried about the pirates. The way he talks, it sounds more like he's introducing the neighbors than giving a roll call of notorious outlaws. Between himself and Aokiji, they should be a match for the pirates. Right?]
[... what aren't you telling her, sir?]
[She's patient through the rest of the role call, and thankfully for him, one point is more than a little distracting.]
There are that many children here? How dare someone kidnap that many innocents! They can't even defend themselves properly.
[Who cares about some dumb alien THERE ARE KIDS TO PROTECT, SMOKER.]
no subject
[No, no, even Smoker has enough restraint to avoid saying that. Especially right now.]
Kuzan's thinking of creating a militia to deal with emergencies, but as we've seen... you can never start too early to learn to defend yourself.
Oh, Straw Hat, and his doctor are here too. The doctor is taking care of a lot of the populous, and Weiss and the guardians have a rule about not initiating fights. Oh and Bartolomeo the Cannibal is here. And ornery and pathetic as ever. He actually got more annoying since Loguetown. Somehow.
no subject
[At any rate, she's thankful for his further explanations. Sometimes she swears it's like he knows exactly what she wants to ask before she can, but then, she's always appreciated that.]
It sounds like you've had your hands full, sir.
[She feels a pang of guilt, then-]
I'm sorry I'm late, but I'll do my best!
no subject
Like I said, you have good timing all the same.
I was just beginning to feel a little overwhelmed, to tell the truth.
[Looks off into the distance.] There's five cities here. Each is like an island onto itself. Have you seen Nova yet? It's like something Vegapunk would dream up. They have flying vehicles and such advanced technology though.
I still can't believe it's not just a dream. But Adela helped convince me it's not. Too many things she doesn't know, and her world is too different for this to still be in ours.
What's the last thing you remember of the New World?
no subject
[She shakes the thought from her head. There will be time for guilt later. Not now.]
The last thing? We were on our way to see Dr. Vegapunk, so he could help the children.
[... she has faith that even being G-5, her crew can safely escort the children. Still, the thought of not being there is a new punch to the gut.]
no subject
[So it doesn't sound like she's too far beyond him. Which means...] I guess the idea that time doesn't really pass without us stands true then.
Have you ever heard tales of the Rainbow Mist?
no subject
The Rainbow Mist? I remember seeing a book by that name, though I don't remember much about it.
no subject
Here appears to be similar. To that theory at least.
no subject
[It's a difficult concept, but it'd explain why she never thought her superior went missing. Kind of.]
[... time is hard.]
At least that means we're not missing anything, and we can focus on the problems at hand.
no subject
It's also why I didn't instantly go into arresting criminals myself. Also, I assumed whoever was foolish enough to bring me here would seek to lure me out if I wasn't doing what they wanted. And too many hands on deck can get some knocked overboard.
But it appears the idea that if we're brought here via some energy, similar to the carnivorous islands; then what we do here beyond survive might still charge the energy just the same. Tsk.
no subject
So no matter what we do, we might still be playing into our kidnapper's plans, and for all we know that kidnapper is this place itself.
[She sighs.]
How long have you been here, Smoker? I'm starting to feel like this might be a long stay.
no subject
I've been here a month, Adela's been here since spring, and so has Portgas it seems. Others have been here for years. No one has found a definitive way out.
Apparently it's a time hot pocket. We're wrapped up in it, and brought to thaw out later. Something like that.
[An elephant on a world turtle and when you flip it over? Hot pockets the whole way down.]
Whoops! I'm surprised this hasn't happened before tbh since the chair stays downstairs
She can hear both Sami and Ash barking, and both of the large puppies have run downstairs to greet Smoker and investigate Tashigi. It seems like they're not growling at her at least, considering that they're not growling and instead sniffing around her.
It's soon followed by some kind of odd sounding footsteps, and at the top of the stairs a light turns on and a small red head appears. Adela's frowning, using her crutch to help her support her weight and see. Wait, that's Smoker... Who is that with him?
She's about to try and make her way down and ask, but unfortunately the crutch slips out from beneath her, leaving Adela to yelp and cling for dear life onto the rail so she won't fall further. The crutch falls down and lands at the bottom of the stairs, though thankfully she won't be following it straight away. ]
Uhm... Hello...
[ Help? ]
no subject
[At the sound of footsteps she looks up, and a smile finds her face when she sees the young lady. This must be the girl that Smoker mentioned. Before she can offer a greeting though, there goes that crutch. Her response is immediate.]
Let me help you with that!
[In a flash she's grabbed the crutch and made her way up, offering both the crutch and her free arm for support.]
You must be Miss Adela. Sorry for waking you. I'm Tashigi, and it's very nice to meet you.
no subject
[For however much Adela might not be traditionally clutzy in the same way Tashigi was, she was brash enough and having only one leg made up for the difference.]
Sami, Ash, heel. [They're still puppies and it's only been a couple of weeks, so he doesn't expect it to completely work, but it helps to get them used to it.]
Sorry to wake you, Kiddo, you all right? [Head tilt, somewhat relieved Tashigi caught her.]
[And even more relieved Tashigi was already reading his mind and heading off the things he hated doing like introductions. Seriously, no one had any idea how much he missed her in just the one month.]
no subject
[ Well, if she wasn't awake before... ]
Wait... Miss Tashigi?
[ Once she's actually standing and has the crutch back, she blinks up at the woman as she just tries to process it now that she's not about to fall down the stairs. ]
no subject
[... then again, some days Tashigi wonders how she fell in with Smoker.]
Smoker tells me you're very knowledgeable about swords. Perhaps we can talk about them sometime? I wouldn't want to interrupt your sleep, though.

[But she'll wait to gossip until Smoker is solidly out of earshot.]
If you're sure you'll be awake for a while, we should head downstairs and talk. I'd love to know more about the girl who's kept the Vice Admiral in line.
no subject
[Some keeping in line. The harder people try the worse he rebels...]
[Really he needs to throw a bucket of water in his face or something.]
[Err anyway...]
You can take my room for now Tashigi until I find out if there's more room here I can get to convert. Either way, I don't think I'll get much sleep.
