Migraines and things
Who: Smoker & anyone for any reason
Where: Fayren shore
What: Mr. Grumpypants marine has a migraine headache.
When: July 27th at like nearly 4 am.
[Leaving a small note, a pot of coffee sans one travel mug worth, and a pot of ramen soup sans one thermos worth, Smoker isn't completely sure that it'll be enough, but probably better than alerting any general populous that he's not there, even if he did set a couple of metaphorical watchdogs to keep an eye on things.]
[He takes along a small pocket radio, half curious if it'll even work in Fayren, and heads out to the beach.]
[For a breath of fresh air.]
[And to eat his ramen.]
[And think.]
[And overthink.]
[And over think everything ever.]
[As he does.]
[And to try to deal with a migraine headache that won't let him sleep.]
[But if he can't sleep? Neither can you.]
[Which is why he's sitting on the shore, trying to fiddle with the radio player.]
[And maybe toast marshmallows for s'mores.]
[Or roast fish he caught.]
[AND stack rocks.]
[And make a small sand castle you literally won't see until you crush it oops. That's okay, he didn't like it anyway.]
[But at least he'll get to greet the sunrise.]
[He hates sunrises =\]

That might not be a good thing considering who is there with you. In the tree near the beach, with a couple puppies, familiar puppies if Smoker looked closely, lying around the base. Though it's more telling with a hand stretching out to wiggle its way towards one of the smores, hot-potatoing the delicious snack back to the branches.]
[Well It's not like Luffy has a place to stay. And smores are delicious, especially when sleepy.]

[TURNS OUT THE CURE TO MIGRAINES?]
[SMACKING PIRATES.]
[Oh wait, he knew this once upon a time.]
If you want one, get down here and earn it.

[ that? that's a voice in the night, preceding the quiet shuffle of sand underfoot. that is a concerned voice of a concerned citizen, edged with the wariness of someone who knows all too well the sorts of people that hang out on beaches at 4 am in the goddamn morning. ]
Is everything all right? This is an odd hour to be out and about.
[ looks like he hasn't recognized the beach bum just yet. small wonders. ]

[YOU SHOULD NOT BE AWAKE AND BUGGING HIM AT THIS HOUR.]
[Even if that is TECHNICALLY vice versa.]
[Maybe ESPECIALLY because it's vice versa!]

[Also because apparently not being able to catch pirates for REAL is driving him insane.]

the urge to snap to attention is strong, almost overwhelmingly so, but smoker's use of his name is just enough to curb it. ]
Unlikely. What brings you all the way out here?
no subject
Too many possible causes to narrow it down.
[Sure as hell not homesick though.]

But she hadn't expected to actually see that guy she stood up on a date there on the beach, spotting him just as she stretched her arms above her head to keep herself awake. ]
Did you get drunk and were just too tired to get home or do you come out here every night?
[ She'll definitely change her route if he's out here all the time. ]

[.....................................................]
[He has no idea what to say to her.]
Uh, none of the above. This is a first time.
But if it's yours... [Then he'll you know. Go somewhere else to mope.]
Wait.
Why are you out this late? [Belatedly cop instincts kick in!]

Hello again. You were one of the very few reasonable ones I encountered here thus far. Perhaps you can help me convince everyone else that it's in their own best interests to just submit quietly to my rule.

[And vaguely wishes this guy could tone down or would mask that much haki. Unf. Worse than Garp. Who knew that was even possible.]
They're kind of dumb and if a brick wall or inferno said "Look at me but if you touch me, I'll destroy everything in my path!" they would all try to egg it on to watch the world burn.
I mean, I'll keep trying, but I don't expect them to listen. They like to get their hands burned, and then go and do the same thing over and over again. Surely you've met the type before.
no subject
Oh, I most assuredly have. [Namely one Prince of all Saiyans]
I suppose there is nothing for it then but to put on a demonstration of my might. Cracking the barriers around the cites should suffice, don't you think?

[Action] Any reason, you say?
He honestly didn't know there was a natural beach in the world, but to his mind that meant, among other things, a 'free' source of gallons upon gallons of salt water. Was that suitable for putting out fires? How easy was it to purify into drinking water, in a pinch? That sort of thinking helped blot out the other thoughts he was desperate to avoid, as he sat there draining the ocean, or what passed for one in Genessia.
Imagine his surprise to find someone out in the wee hours of the day when he thought he was quite alone. He hastily re-submerged and dressed far away, before approaching in his normal getup. Smoker looked to be in better meditations than himself, which was always a dilemma. On the one hand, he knew the type. Lonely thinkers who prefer loneliness. On the other hand, those were some of the best thoughts to talk about, and he, perhaps selfishly, wanted to talk about them, whatever they were. So he tried to be warm and talkative, as always.
"Hello, Mr. Smoker. Penny for your thoughts? You look to be thinking a good deal of them."
[Action] Yup! XD
Once an obsession, always an obsession. And he couldn't let go of it so easily just because he was out of jurisdiction technically, and it was safer for the world to not have a world war blow everything up. Part of him wanted to just follow Kuzan's lead, to shirk back to chain of command, but really, it was all an illusion anyway. Kuzan wasn't an admiral anymore, and the new fleet admiral was someone who would probably kill Smoker and everyone else for not following through with the execution of his absolute justice.
Re: [Action] Yup! XD
That got Ted chuckling. "Not motorcycles? Does that make you a marine? Suppose that's more than just a job." Got that info from Adela and Kuzan, respectively. Plus there's the giant tuning fork which wasn't too subtle. "Well, that's a fine thought. Not as much ocean for them to cause trouble, but the principle of the thing is admirable. Would Ace happen to be one of these pirates?" The Fleet Admiral would've met Ted's ears warmly; what a crusader! Then again, there's mercy to consider, a complex dichotomy he knew from study and application.
What's weird is that Smoker didn't quite strike him as the thinking type. He seemed more the kind to arrest first, ask questions later. That he found him in a pensive state of meditation must mean something's askew.

Blinking, Grell stops and looks up, noticing that Smoker is not that far away. What is he doing out here at this time of night?]
Isn't it a bit lonely for walks on the beach for you?
no subject
Solitude was the idea, but apparently this is a very well-traveled beach. Might I ask what you're doing here?
no subject
Oh, just running a few errands before I retire for the day. I usually don't haunt this side of the world, but I had to come.
If you wanted solitude, you may as well have stayed in your room.
